As a follow up...I find it highly amusing that the Twins ask for Kenedy as the third player and then feel that Masterson/Bowden + Lowrie is equivalent to that LOL

Kennedy- 3rd or 4th starter

Lowrie- 2nd baseman that has same batting skills as Pedroia, but possible 15-20 HR power

Masterson- Twins view him as a terrific set up man

Hmm

BTW Yankee fans, maybe the Yankees front office's tactics of negotiating really irked the Twins. I mean cmon they threatened to pursue tampering charges against Hank Steinbrenner

I believe I read somewhere that Kennedy has plus-plus plus command

Probably from one of Jacko's posts and don't forget that Melky can leap tall buildings in a single bound thing

According to KNBR, the framework of the Santana deal is done, with the Sox sending Lester, Crisp, Lowrie, Masterson, and Kalish to Minnesota for Johan. Some details and kinks still need to be worked out, but there’s little reason to expect that this won’t get done by tonight or tomorrow morning.

Talks with Santana’s agent about an extension could begin tomorrow. Indications are that the Sox will start with an offer of five-years, $100 million and go from there.

.. will it ever end? I'd love to see Ellsbury stay, but getting Santana would be worth it.

EDIT: Took out the link to his blog. I'm sick of him advertising his blog in this manner.

how does the angels not getting cabrera affect the santana sweepstakes?

I don't think it does. Everyone needs Santana but the Angels are more desperate for a bat so I'd think that thats where they turn their attention. I also think the $$ end will affect the Angels.

I would rather be off on the smaller prospects and mlb replacements (Lowrie and Crisp) than being willing to sell whatever it takes to get Santana. Just throw Ellsbury in there, why don't we?

I proposed two pitchers and the CF prospect that are likely to be in a deal--if one happens--I left out Crisp because either a) he was a given, or B) I simply don't care very much if he leaves and I left out Lowrie because he is a very small piece. It seems to me that predicting that a package centered around those two pitchers (Masterson and Lester) and a CF prospect with a high upside (Kalish) was more spot on than any of the garbage that has come about about "It's a no-brainer to trade Buchholz" or "it's a no-brainer to trade Ellsbury".

Sour grapes, if you ask me.

Sorry we didn't read your mind regarding those you didn't mention, but all we can do is look at what you posted and compare it to the deal that the Sox have proposed...and they are not close in terms of overall value.

I commend you on nailing some of the individuals involved, though, that was heads up.

However I think Jacksonian has actually been vindicated as your proposal, AS STATED in your post, would not have come close to landing Santana...well maybe Carlos Santana...but not Johan.

First, Jacksonian went out of his way to ridicule example1 for mentioning Kalish at all, so he's nowhere near vindicated--he's wrong.

Second, if the final deal is Lester, Masterson and Kalish, not a five-for-one, example1 is completely vindicated. The rumors are going both ways right now--and some of us did take the time to point out that the Twins covet A-level prospects. ;)

Spam your blog again, and you're gone. Am I clear? I already warned you once, and you did it anyway. Since I'm a nice guy, I'll let it slide this one time, but don't make me regret giving you a pass.

McAdam reported on Sports Tonight that the Sox package is Lester' date=' Masterson, and Kalish. No Crisp, No Ellsbury.[/quote']

Holy s***. Amazing.

Spin Crisp off for some other upgrade, or maybe a couple good prospects? Assuming, of course, that the deal gets done with this package.

Here is the Sox rotation with this deal, with projected stats from the Bill James handbook, just for fun.

Johan Santana: 16-8, 3.00 ERA, 228 K, 58 BB

Josh Beckett: 14-8, 3.50 ERA, 187 K, 64 BB

Daisuke Matsuzaka: 14-8, 3.54 ERA, 188 K, 64 BB

Curt Schilling: 11-7, 3.54 ERA, 150 K, 25 BB

Tim Wakefield: 11-9, 4.03 ERA, 123 K, 63 BB

Buchholz is not projected. The Santana numbers are obviously assuming hes a Twin, since they were made previously.

Excuse me, I have to go clean that up.

Get the coffee ready.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Boston general manager Theo Epstein just held a briefing session with the team’s beat reporters, and while he wouldn’t comment on what’s being talked about, he said he expected negotiations to go “well into the night,” presumably with the Twins. He also said the teams are being flexible, that no “final offers” have been made.

for the love of god haha. this is killing me I can't sleep with this anticipation.

After reviewing the trade by the Tigers/Marlins I think this Santana deal is even more important. The Detroit Tigers offense looks just as good as the Red Sox and Yankees. For the Red Sox to remain above these teams they need to beat them in pitching. What better way to stay ahead of the competition than to get this deal done...TONIGHT!

I've spent the better part of the last week hitting refresh on every single baseball site I can find and nothing yet. I'm beginning to fall into the okay lets just get it done area. The longer this goes on the more of a chance of it falling apart.

Boston needs to land this, sense Detroit is getting Cabrera, and on top of that Willis. The Tigers have great pitching with the addition of Willis, but does that make them one dimensional? I mean it just seems with willis, and Verlander it's all about the fast ball? I don't know, either way.... that's a great rotation the Tigers will have, and we will need to one up them, with the aging Schilling, and the questionable Dice-K

I wouldn't be surprised if the Yanks came back with Kennedy in the mix. It makes complete sense for the new "boss" to make a splash like that and ink a Santana. That's the great thing about this whole saga, that if the Sox get Santana they get Santana on top of all the young players they already have and get better as a team, but if the Yanks get him they blow their entire wad going forward on a guy who, if he doesn't live up to Pedro numbers will be bood in NY. But if he comes to Boston he'll be pitching ahead of Beckett, Dice and Schilling. It's win-win. Hell, it's WINTASTIC!

I hate you. Mainly because everything you say it's true.

I agree with everything except where Santana will be pitching.

I don't want to f*** with the chemistry of this team...Beckett is still the #1.

So basically Olney on SC at 9 said:

- Yankees are out of it according to Hank.

- Lester Deal appears to be the one.

- Angels not in trade discusions.

- Twins deciding to see if Sox offer is enough.

A nice summary of the last few pages of this thread.

14-8 for Josh Beckett?? I remember this guy projecting 12 wins for Beckett last year. I dont really take much stock in the these predictions but it is certainly interesting.
