Weren't these guys the same guys that swept you this week? Just wondering. Can someone check that for me, please confirm it?

There are no Joba rules in the post-season. The rules are pretty much done at this point. They were put in there to keep Torre from burning up the kid. With Rivera and Chamberlain, it's basically a seven inning game against the Yankees in the post-season.

Hey Red Sox fans...it's the eighth inning....do you know who your set up men are?

Aww...you poor babies...didn't hear you guys complaining when our entire rotation was hurt earlier in the year. Manny just doesn't want to play, and you're better without Crisp in the lineup.

Wonder what excuse you will have when you actually officially blow the largest division lead in the history of baseball.

The largest division lead in the history of baseball? Stats to back that up? Yes 1978 comments are coming from you and other Yankee fans, but this is not like 1978. That year they didnt have a wild card to fall back on and plus the Sox had the 14.5 game lead in August. Now that is what I call a choke

Sox have 6 games left, all at home, and 3 of those games will have Beckett starting 1 and Schilling starting 2. Im confident in this team going 3-3 or 4-2 the rest of the way, 96-97 wins is not a season to frown upon or call a choke. The Yankees had by far the best second half I have ever seen. I give them major props for doing so

The only thing that I don't understand is how Gom can say that we've choked the lead away. First of all, we're still in first. Yeah, it's a slim lead, but that's what happens when the Yanks play .650 ball for the entire second half.

It seems like the Red Sox would have had to finish with 105-110 wins, otherwise it's a choke.

Why would I complain about your rotation being on the DL?:dunno:

Yeah, Manny would rather travel with the team, do his weight work, take batting practice and sit in the dugout, but not take his ABs. Huh?

I checked some stats, the largest lead ever coughed up in baseball was the NY Giants who had held a 15 game lead on July 4th. The Boston Braves (nicknamed the Miracle Braves) were dead last in 8th place, played .782 ball (68-19) for 3 months to capture the division lead

Wouldn't that matter if it eliminated us from the playoffs?

Right now, Tito is paying lip service about the Division, but the proof is in the fact that he is resting guys if they had a bad night's sleep. If they were in danger of being eliminated from the playoffs, we would not be seeing many of his current lineups and pitching moves. Do you think Pedroia would have been getting a rest today?

I agree with this. I don't blame Tito for wanting to rest players. I want the division title; I really do. But if it comes at the expense of less rest for our key guys, then forget about it.

I have no complaints about their approach, and I love that the Yankees are within sniffing distance and Torre can't resist going to his horses. In 2004 one of the big pluses in making the late season run was that it forced Torre to whip his horses down the stretch. He was going to Mo in the 8th. His pen was toast by the time he reached the playoffs.

Really? I thought it was definitely at 14 at some point.

On May 29th, you guys had a 14.5 game lead.

The wild card, although making baseball ultimately more interesting, takes away some from the division races. I think that finishing with the 2nd best record matters a lot more to the Yankees than to the Red Sox, primarily due to Wang. Other than that, it really isn't all that important to either team.

The thing that should worry you guys is that your pen is blowing the games. The guys that will be pitching in October are s***ing the bed. What both managers should do is take their top 3 starters out of the game by the 6th inning, and pitch their callups the rest of the way.

It's really not hard to understand. He's the type of vermin that gets a chubby trying to make other people feel bad about something. You know, a classy guy?

Joba was dominant today. Boy did we need that. And Moose is coming around at just the right time. Looks like he needed a bit of a break to get that arm speed back.

BTW, hey Yankee fans, how nice is it to have a backup C who can actually play?

Since May 29th, the Sox are 56-49. A whopping 7 games over .500, for a winning percentage of .533. To put that in perspective, the team that is closest to that winning precentage this year is the Mariners and Rockies. So basically, after that torrid start, you guys have been slightly above average over 107 games. Not exactly something to hang your hat on. Your team had numerous chances to put us away. Many of us, me included, didn't think we had a shot at the division. Our hot play, and your poor play, considering your talent level, has brought us to this point. I think you're better than a .533 winning percentage. If you guys played to your capabilities in the second half, we wouldn't be talking about this.

Aww....the venom gets pretty thick as his team falls apart. Why am I not surprised? I'm sorry...I make you feel bad? How bad would you feel if your team wasn't falling apart? If your team steam-rolled into October, would it bother you?

Can't take the heat, can you? I only wish we were facing you in the first round. A seven game series, maybe...but no way in hell you win a five game series from us. No way.

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't mind seeing Molina behind the plate and Posada DHing in the playoffs with Mientkiewicz at first. Having Matsui and Giambi off the bench would be huge. You could pinch hit for the pitcher all day if you lost the DH and not even flinch.

I don't take any of this stuff seriously enough to to feel bad about it, so I'm just calling it like a see it, Gom. As a human being, you are a piece of s***. Not because of what's going on in the AL East, but because of the things you do. Don't like it? Act differently.

Yes, this choking mess of a team is the first AL team to clinch a playoff berth. Do you realize how ridiculous your post is?

As long as I am annoying you, then I know my life is heading down the path of the good and righteous. There are other's whose opinions I value here. You are not one of them.

By the way, if you didn't want abuse...why be a Red Sox fan? Doesn't that come with the territory?

How funny would it be if the first team to clinch ends up the wild card. Has that ever happened?

And on May 29th the Sox were, if your figures are correct, 36-15, the peak of their season. Nothing arbitrary about picking the high spot, huh? Just about every 92-98 win team goes through a month or so of about .500 ball, which is what happened for the Sox in June and part of July.

Not to nitpick, but 56+49= 107 which is akin to 4 months of baseball.

Over the Yankees, yes. But the largest division lead we had all year was 11.5 games.

Gom, can you tell me the Yankees record at that same time and tell me why you don't factor that into the entire season equation?

You love to cherry-pick some random date, so let me do so as well.

Since April 2, the Red Sox are 92-64. Since April 2, the Yankees are 90-65.

Well, we're not exactly "falling apart".

1st Half - 53-34, WP of .609

2nd Half - 38-29, WP of .567

If anything else, we've been fairly consistent all year. Two great month (May and April), and one s***** month (June), and every other month has been between .550 and .580.

Compare it to the Yanks, who have two sub-.500 months and two months close to a .700 WP. The Yanks have had an excellent second half. It's what they needed to do to catch the Sox, and they still haven't caught them, have they?

Posted

Right, but their ~.500 stretch was about a month and a half, and they were actually, IIRC, 3 under for that time. So, since they came out of that stretch, they've gone 10 over in about 2.5 months, roughly 35-25, or .583.

It's really just a matter of when you include that month and a half. At 36-15, they are over .700. Weren't all you twits predicting they'd come back to Earth? I for one knew they would, so you got no argument from me. So they did, and now they are chokers for it? Only to retards who can't remember 3 months ago.

If you break it up differently, it's more like .600 when you put the peak in with the correction, and .583 after, which puts them at about .590 over 150+ games. Not much variance there.

Let Gom have his fun. I am sure that he was riding pretty high last year when the Yanks faced the sputtering Tiger team that played well under .500 in the final month. The Yankees were steamrolling into the playoffs and the Tigers looked like nothing but 3 games of fresh pavement. That didn't turn out too well for them. Then we had to endure hearing how good the young Tigers really were, but they weren't as they got their clocks cleaned by a .500 NL team and they threw the ball all over the place like a bad High School team. Let him ride high on beating up AAA pitchers with Baltimore and Tampa. I hope they score 100+ runs this week.
