Let Gom have his fun. I am sure that he was riding pretty high last year when the Yanks faced the sputtering Tiger team that played well under .500 in the final month. The Yankees were steamrolling into the playoffs and the Tigers looked like nothing but 3 games of fresh pavement. That didn't turn out too well for them. Then we had to endure hearing how good the young Tigers really were' date=' but they weren't as they got their clocks cleaned by a .500 NL team and they threw the ball all over the place like a bad High School team. Let him ride high on beating up AAA pitchers with Baltimore and Tampa. I hope they score 100+ runs this week.[/quote']

At least we were in it. Not looking at the two teams ahead of us in the AL East and having gone down as the highest payroll in the history of baseball to not play in the post-season

The playoffs are a crap shoot with the wild card. Everyone knows that, or should. The Sox, at their "high point" had a 14.5 game lead on the Yankees. Were the Yankees that bad? No. Were the Sox that good? No. However, what ORS's stats fail to take into account is the injuries that decimated the Yankees. The Sox, until recently, have been relatively injury free all season. For the Sox to play .530 ball for over 100 games when they could have buried the Yankees is, in my opinion a choke. With the talent you have, you couldn't put it away?

Anyways..you haven't choked yet. Even if you do, you're in the post-season. It's just a regular season footnote.

I'm curious...what were the second half records of say..the last 5 World Series winners. I'm curious if anyone has that info.

Anyways, going to the game tomorrow, so I'll see you posters late night, as I'm hitting the city after the game.

[/quote']I don't know what constitutes a choke in the post season short of a 4 game collapse after being up 3 games to zip. All 4 teams are very equal with no clear favorite other than the Yanks who are the only team on a roll.

The Red Sox had an 8 game lead the last time Manny Ramirez, a first ballot Hall of Famer, and their cleanup hitter, played in a game.

Wakefield hasn't looked the same since his back injury.

DiceK and Okajima are fatigued.

Wang took our starting 1b out.

Shocking that the Yanks have made up some ground, isn't it?

not shocking that they made up ground, just shocking that they've made up THIS MUCH ground, especially when we left your house with a 4.5 game lead and we both had cupcakes along the way. Even so, today is a must win for us as this is the touted half game that I always look past and then we just need to play one game better over the final 5. Your lead has dwindled as far as it can since a tie is a division win for us.

Nothing of the sort. In fact, what I posted has nothing to do with the Yankees. Stay on topic.

To be fair' date=' Gom did say 'until recently'[/quote']

And until recently, the Sox had an 8 game lead on the Yankees.

Shocking when injuries hit, the Yanks gain ground.

This is a little weird. Yankees.com now has Toronto start Jesse Litsch. Not really sure at this point if Burnett is starting.

EDIT: Burnett had to go home for personal reasons 2.5 hours before game time. Jesse Litsch will start in his place. This is certainly a break for the Yankees.

 I'm not into conspiracies, and I don't think this is the case, but the Yankees seem to be catching every f***ing break that they could possibly catch.

I better not get any of this conspiracy theory s*** thrown in my face by people who are illiterate.
