Totally of the subject

How is Lester doing

:dunno:

Definitely off subject. Nobody knows. The Sox have decided (correctly) to not comment on Lester's condition as it is a private matter between Jon and his family. Your guess is as good as mine.

I can tell you from family experience that there aren't many better cities in the world to be in than Boston when it comes to research and treatment (although I'm not sure that's where Lester is... again, who knows :dunno: ). Again, off topic, but I give lots of credit to the cutting-edge medical facilities in boston, and medical treatment in general. Hopefully young Jon will be okay.

We need pitching from whoever trades for Manny. Heres a chance for us to grab one really good pitcher/CL and a couple other pieces. If the Dodgers would offer Broxton, Billingsby and maybe even another player for Manny + cash then I think you do that. Finish up deals with Drew and Lugo (unless we can find some other SS) and sign Okajima. And that leaves you with a roster of:

1. Crisp CF

2. Lugo SS

3. Drew RF

4. Ortiz DH

5. Youkillis 3B

6. Pena LF

7. Lowell 3B

8. Varitek C

9. Pedroia 2B

1. Matsuzaka

2. Schilling

3. Beckett

4. Papelbon

5. Billingsby

CL Broxton

Set-up Okajima?

MR Delcarmen

MR Wakefield

MR Timlin

Mop-up Hansen? Lopez?

there you have some decent arms pieced together in the pen, a killer young rotation and an ok offense. The offense may need to add another bat but with a ton of payroll flexibility with a Manny trade, and added prospects we have some pieces to deal should we need to upgrade somewhere.

Some guy on a dodger forum came up with this as a trade possibility

Kent, Repko, Loney, Broxton, Hall

For...

Manny and Lowell

kent would play 2b, repko and hall on the bench, loney at first while moving Youk to 3rd and Broxton in the pen as our closer??

not a big fan but i guess it could work for me. Ive never really liked kent before

i got this from over at SOSH

numbers for Ortiz without Manny in the lineup since 2003

In that time, Ortiz played in 55 games that Manny did not have an AB. The Sox went 33-22 in those games.

His numbers:

186 ab's

56 hits

45 bb's

5 doubles

2 triples

17 hr's

45 rbi

.301 avg

.624 slugging

Projected out over a 162 game season, those numbers are .301, 50hr's, and 133 rbi with 133 walks.

Rdsxmbnt: It's BillingsLEy, lol. Not Billingsby. Sorry, you had said it a few times and it was one of those annoying things that bugs me for no reason. Just an FYI.

Also, many, MANY people forget about Craig Breslow. That guy was absolutely dealing when he was given the chance, and I think he deserves a chance to show what he can do as a full time member of our bullpen. What do you think?

Good k:bb ratio (2:1) and averaged a k per inning. Very small sample size, though. I'd like to see another lefty in the pen, but he could be pretty good. Give the kid a shot!

I agree, you have to look within before you think up trades. He was a stud. Dont know why im thinking about this but im just remembering Hansack, could he go to the pen?

There's a good chance they'll land that lefty from Japan. He's supposed to be pretty good situational lefty, which is something they have missed since Myers. I think he's more than a lefty-specialist, at least in Japan he was.

Yeah, I was thinking of him, too, but you know how certain people feel about Japanese pitchers coming over to MLB (haha). Yeah, I guess that could work. Still, asking a kid with less than 30 MLB innings (Breslow, that is, assuming what'shisname from Japan is more that a lefty specialist) to come in and get Giambi and Matsui (for example) is a lot of pressure.

Yeah, I think Japanese dude should get those guys out whether or not he's a specialist (his name is Hideki Okajima, I believe). If he's good there's no need to platoon him (so to speak).

As the trade talks appear to be turning into somewhat of a bidding war between LAD and SD, heres who i'd want if im the sox:

from dodgers:

Broxton (like his makeup more than billingsley)

Two of the following: Kemp, Loney, Furcal, Ethier

from padres:

Linebrink, and a combo of Khalil Greene, Peavy, Adrian Gonzalez

--We could throw in lowell or maybe even pedroia (i hate to do it but they do need a 2nd Baseman, also many 2B on market for stopgap for us if they want the youth)

EDIT: I'd prefer kemp over ethier...seems to have more power, more versatile in OF, and RH

How many of those are 2003 and early 2004 games?

Late 2005 and 2006-07 Ortiz will be getting much different treatment from pitchers and managers...hes developed a heavy reputation in a short period of time.

ENOUGH WITH JAPANESE PLAYERS! ARRRGH!

I hope they all bomb...screw it, even Matsui and Ichiro. I'm starting the HFC. Hiroshima Fan Club. All Japanese players should bomb.

[Even for me, that's bordering on bad taste]

Ick, no. Kent is good but his attitude is terrible, and 2B isn't one of our outstanding needs. I like Broxton, but Repko sucks. Loney is good, but I like some of the other stuff a lot better.

what puzzles me about a potential Manny trade is that despite the fact that his value is highest now than at any other time his name surfaced on the trade rumor mill, the word on the street is that the Sox have LOWERED their demands.

In today's market, $17 million for 2 years of one of the best run producers in the game is a bargain money wise, it's just a question of what talent the Sox can get.

IF Manny is traded, the Dodgers seem like the most realistic option. They lost Drew and need a run producer, and Ned Colleti has shown he's willing to trade prospects.

In my mind the Red Sox have 4 major holes right now (in no particular order): Lack of talent at the upper minors, shortstop, right field, bullpen.

Assuming RF will be solved by Drew, this leaves 3 issues. We've got to strengthen all of these areas. Like others have said Lugo is solid but not spectacular. One thing the Dodgers have is a pretty solid shortstop who's 2 years younger than Lugo and IMO better.

Trade idea:

Dodgers get: Manny Ramirez

Red Sox get: Furcal, Kemp, Broxton, Billingsley

Sox order: Furcal (SS), Youkilis ( 1B ), Drew (CF), Ortiz (DH), Lowell ( 3B ), Varitek C), Pena (RF), Crisp (LF), Pedroia ( 2B )

Rotation: Schilling, Beckett, Matsuzaka, Wakefield, Papelbon

Bullpen: Broxton, Timlin, Tavarez, Breslow, Billingsley, (Hansen/Delcarmen as potential callups)

The advantage to Billingsley is that he can supplement the bullpen now and be a potential emergency starter if/when injury happens. If Lester ever comes back strong the future rotation of Beckett, Billingsley, Papelbon, Lester, and Matsuzaka looks pretty good to me.

If no Furcal include LaRoche or Loney and sign Lugo. It's a lot of young talent but this is Manny Ramirez we're talking about. If the Dodgers aren't willing to cough up then keep Manny. Afterall he's a bargain at $17 million a year in this market, remember?

Drew and Lugo can still be added and the lineup will be pretty solid.

Sox order: Lugo (SS), Youkilis ( 1B ), Ortiz (DH), Manny (LF), Drew (RF), Lowell ( 3B ), Varitek C), Crisp (CF), Pedroia ( 2B )

Rotation: Schilling, Beckett, Matsuzaka, Wakefield, Papelbon

Bullpen: Timlin, Tavarez, Breslow, Hansen, Delcarmen

If the Red Sox trade Manny Ramirez in this market they should get extremely good value. Despite all the B.S the Sox have to put up with, at the end of the day his bat is extremely valuable. They've got to plug some holes if they trade him.

Posted
yea, but the one major thing the Sox have going against them every time they wanna trade Manny is that everyone knows he doesn't wanna be here. if/when he gets traded, everyone will be pissed at the value we got in return

New rumor...but take it for what its worth...a rumor:

Manny, Youk, Bucholz

for

Mark Teixeira and SS Prospect Joaquin Arias

http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=318&p=2&c=595745

From the link above And the hunch here is the Sox finally send Ramirez to Texas in exchange for another superstar player. How does this sound: Ramirez, Kevin Youkilis and top pitching prospect Clay Bucholz—a Texas native—in exchange for first baseman Mark Teixeira and shortstop prospect Joaquin Arias, whose path is blocked by Michael Young?

It's not even a rumor. Its just conjecture at its best! I suppose this is what we have all devolved to, waiting for the Manny-shoe to drop.

Posted
Texeira is nice but who plays left?

That's a s***** deal. Texeira is a nice return, but not if we have to throw in Buchholz and Youkilis and only get back a SS prospect.

Posted

Yeah, Tex is good but that's not close to equal return for the Sox.

WMP would most likely patrol LF, but anyone else think Coco should be there and WMP in center?

Posted

I dont like how we'd be including Buchholtz. Manny and Youk for Tex and Arias is ok and fits in pretty good. Lineup would be

1. Crisp CF

2. Arias SS

3. Ortiz DH

4. Tex 1B

5. Drew RF

6. Pena LF

7. Lowell 3B

8. Varitek C

9. Pedroia 2B

The rumors are flying and coming in from every direction. I think its safe to say Manny might not be a Red Sox at the end of the winter but lets review: The big sluggers are off the market and Manny is pretty much the last standing chip. With two years left and heading into the mid-30s....if you wanted anything for him....now is the perfect time. I would sit back and let teams fight over each other with the best package for Manny Ramirez. I love the idea by elsrbueno in getting Billingsley, Broxton, Kemp, and Furcal/LaRoche.

A deal like that can make a club set for a long time. Everyone would bitch over the fact we can't replace Manny's production....but if Broxton and Billingsley become the next Liriano and Nathan (previously traded from the Giants for AJ Pierzinsky) then we made a steal.

Going out on the limb, eh. I think it's safe to say that a monkey might blossom out of my heinie at 9:56 PM tonight.

I kid, I kid. Again, I hope we don't deal him...but if we do, I think the Dodgers can give us the best package. A closer in Broxton, another excellent young starter in Billinglsey, and a good young hitter in Loney, LaRoche, or maybe Ethier?

Posted
Either take out Buchholz or make em add Danks. I don't wanna deal Youk either.

Correct me if I'm wrong but was Arias not the PTBNL in the A-Rod trade?

you are correct. I dont think hed be a good solution at SS for next year
