  1. I lurk around here anymore, but I had to respond to this. If you're a baseball fan, you have to catch a game at PNC. I've been to Fenway, Jacob's Field (Not Progressive Field), Great American Ball Park, even Yankee Stadium and others. While I enjoyed my trip to Fenway so much and go to many Guardians games a year, PNC is the best place to watch a game.
  2. Update here in Cleveland - It's snowing. Unbelievable.
  3. I'm glad baseball is back but today does not seem like opening day. Cleveland is currently darker than the future of the Browns. I mean we just had snow Saturday night. I mostly hope the Guardians do well, but they're playing the Sox today. Sox win 3-1.
  4. A 3.5 WAR for a pitcher is top 20, at least for last year. That's not a good pitcher, that's a very, very good pitcher.
  5. Everything with you is a bet. Just stop because putting money up doesn't prove a damn thing, other than you have the money to blow. It's a risk to extend any pitcher, period. The Red Sox, in order to splurge in other areas, took a risk that this was a good bet. You sure as hell don't sell stock that you plan on investing for three years if it has one bad quarter.
  6. I went to school in West Virginia, around the tri-state area. It was reasonably close to home, it was a nice area, the financial aid package couldn't be beat, and the university wasn't too bad either. Unfortunately the vast majority of WV has been killed off by the needs of the rest of the US. Coal mining and the almost surf-type system implemented allowed for no type of economic development. Some areas of WV are amazing, either natural beauties or just nice residential areas. It's just that most towns or "cities" are very low middle class or extremely poor.
  7. It's nice to see someone who has an idea of what I was talking about. I worked in galvanised wire for a hot minute, my speciality is rod and bar. Considering I'm pretty young I don't know if you can count my knowledge as a speciality.
  8. Well that's great for your line of business. Metallurgy is a different animal. A beginning to 5 year vet will probably be making around 60-65k. 15-25 years, depending on the company can range from 100-200k. It's all about knowing the right people. As of right now the last of the "old boys club" is finally exiting out. There's a huge age gap in the field, thanks to the US steel collapse of the 80s and 09 scared alot of my generation off too.
  9. I'll somewhat agree with you on the first part, but still from what I have heard and what I have seen in my field, experience trumps all. My position wasn't saying that statistics are a fad. Just that you can get data drunk. Some stats are a wonderful tool, some are not. The problem is so many younger individuals like myself at times, in the sports world and business alike, take stats as absolute gold and look at nothing else. Stats like UZR are nice but have their flaws, just like scouting. Also some posters have stated that cutting resources for analytics for better scouting would be wrong. From that I understand that they view analytics as a way of replacing "an eye for talent". My point being that analytics are not an end all and that some in the sports world have gone too far with it (see 76ers for an example) is not impossible to defend. You may think so because you don't agree.
  10. While I can see where you're coming from I don't agree with all your points. The most expensive human capital is the one with the most experience. Like in my line of work, I'm the more technological of the two, but he has 45 years of experience and the know how. He's being paid for the past and I'm there to show him the new tricks. But he also gets paid twice my salary. Analytics are great but they don't replace an eye for talent. I see analytics as a supporting tool or a wake up call for what we see. They can only give us what we tell them to. Data received could be useless, statistically insignificant, have no correlation or flat out wrong depending on the system being used. Whole other data can shed light on something no one knew. But that's up to the person to decide. Things boom and bust all the time, just because people are buying the hot cocoa today doesn't mean it's the best thing. Analytics has a place in this sport, it's just not the top of the mountain.
  11. Remember how bad-ass that guy was though? He was known to crash into walls.
  12. August 6th game vs Yankees. Two tickets, Section G32, row 3. I bought these as a get-a-way from home, but thanks to the Federal Gov't our research grant hasn't been approved, therefore I have not received my summer stipend and can't afford to travel 14 hours. PM if interested, just shoot out a price. I didn't want to post these on stubhub and I thought of you guys immediately.
  13. I'm really tired of hearing you claim everyone is a future ace.
  14. So does it greatly piss anyone else off that people charge so much for secondhand tickets?
  15. use this http://onoffer.tickets.com/buy/MLBOnsale?orgid=23&poid=24882&agency=MLBTGSROX
  16. Did you get tickets? Edit: I got Yankees vs Sox August 6th. The section and row I was given is G32 Row 3. Are they good seats?
  17. Is this for real? Like there is such a link?
  18. I'm saying slim to none... but really I just want to be at Fenway once. I tried for Pirates/Sox tickets in Pittsburgh and they were gone in a day. The Pirates sell 20 at a time and around 50% of the tickets are being sold on Stub Hub, ect at double face value. Going to a baseball game is a crock anymore. Though I was able to score some nice Phillies/Pirates tickets. I'll probably go to an Guardians game or two. The benefit of bad teams around the area are decent ticket prices, though when they play anyone relevant they're sold out.
  19. So yeszir, question. I'm from Ohio and know nothing about the seating at Fenway. Where is the place to view it best? I've always liked 1st line, but I'm willing to be swayed.
  20. I got chosen!
  21. I think I just blew a load
  22. Oh yeah, let's f*** history because it's the perfect time to be center stage. I thought Miggy was going to kill him.
  23. That man should be punched in the nuts.
  24. I really just want to cut you.
