if Manny leaves I will miss his bat, and thats it...

Im a diehard sox fan, but wen it comes to Manny Ramirez i jsut cant respect him as much as I use to... his attitude is completely horrible and disrepectful to the team, he does try anymore... sure he's someone who can play the "Mosta" really well but other than that he can't field, he can't run either...

I heard many rumors about Manny going, here and there... but theres only one recent trade rumor i heard where, manny would go to seattle for beltre or sexson, and that is a smart trade... both are younger than manny and have power so they can fill that #4 spot in teh lineup...

I also heard maybe manny go to the Padres for MAYBE Peavy, that one im also agreeing with Peavy would be and Outstandind addition to teh rotation... AND i heard maybe manny to the Dodgers for some prospects, sure for prospect do it, that would be awsome...

I would be pissed to no end if Manny was traded for Beltre or Sexson. Neither of them is what I'd consider an elite hitter. Beltre had one fluke season, battting .330 w/ 48HR. If you look at every other year, his BA is around .250 with 20 or so homers. Sexson has pretty good power, but again, can't hit for average. If you put one of them in the #4 spot, Opposing pitchers would laugh and walk Ortiz all the time. Beltre and Sexson don't even come close to comparing to Manny. Manny has great power, hits for average, has great plate vision and discapline, and he is one of the most clutch hitters in the game. You simply can't find a another hitter that will do 1/2 as good as a job as him in the cleanup spot.

If manny is traded this season and we don't see at least an Andrew Jones type of hitter behind him, forget it. Ortiz will never get a chance to hit and the season will be a waste.

BOS: Jake Peavy

Scott Linebrink

Adrian Gonzalez

SD: Manny Ramirez

Mike Lowell (yes they did just trade for a 3rd baseman prospect, but Lowell would be a solid pick up for them as he could help Kouz with his defense a la what Snow did for Youk)

cash considerations

yes please

Would be a great trade for the Padres with one exception, and this will bring you back to reality....

No way the Padres take on both salaries of Ramirez and Lowell. No team in baseball will, with the exception of the Yankees and the Red Sox...and the Sox are not trading Manny to New York, and they won't trade him to themselves either.

From a Padres point of view, why would you make this deal? As good as Manny is, you aren't trading your #1 pitcher for him, not to mention one of the best relievers in the NL.

You will trade Manny, more likely than not, but to patch holes and get young prospects. Kind of like the Sheffield trade, although you will net much more than we did.

completely agreed. I live in Richmond and watched him numerous times when he was in the Braves farm system, (AAA team is in Richmond) and he is below average defensively, offers very little speed on the basepaths and can be extremely streaky.

Betimit would most likely play first and you slide Youk back to third, and try to spin Lowell for some BP help.

With the current state of the market Manny Ramirez's contract looks like a steal. It's a bargain to have someone like that for $17 millionish a year. Plus, they would for sure send over some money.

Again, I think similar to the Betimit situation, if we send Manny + cash + pitching prospect we can keep Youk at third and spin Lowell for BP help.

I also see no reason why SD would trade that much for Manny though.

Aren't you the guy who wants to bring in OCab for $9 million/yr?

yes, because we were talking about a shortstop. Betemit would be a somewhat different conversation as a 1B. With your Betemit proposal, we still do not have a shortstop.

I'm fairly sure reports have surfaced we're close to signing Lugo...didn't Buster Olney report that a few days ago?

Thats a trade BOS would have to make

If they do make that deal, my guess is they would also have a deal in place for A Jones or another big bat

Yea they would defently have to do that. I'd hate to see Manny go matter what because of the huge decrease in Ortizs number you would see but if Peavy is in the deal you have to do it. The kid is a major league ace. Our pitching staff would be disgusting. I'd like too see them to trade for Jones but it doesnt look like that is going to happen with them so close with Drew. I rather see Manny stay but if Peavy is in it you have to consider. BTW yea Manny probably should have played out the rest of the season but he was the only one who showed up for the only meaningfull season all year. . .you all know what im talking about.

That guy from Nomaas who says Manny to the Dodgers could happen within 72 hours actually seems like a legit source.

Possibly Billingsley, Broxton and Betemit? The 3 B's

He also said yesterday that Glavine will go back to the Braves, so i guess we can kinda use that to see if he is legit

jake peavy didnt exactly have a great year pitching in a great ballpark for pitchers

11-14 with a 4.09??

Have you ever seen Jake Peavy pitch?? Great movement and an excellent delivery. Forget last years numbers as injuries played a part. He is nasty....you take him if he is available.

I'm really impressed with Broxton and Billingsley....those would be great additions. I'd rather see Kemp, LaRoche, or Furcal over Betemit

the Glavine thing is not out of the blue, there is a story on SI that says he is negotiating with Atlanta

I think any combination of those guys is good, as long as we get Broxton

BTW, Steve Phillips was on ESPN NEWS saying that a Manny deal to the Dodgers is pretty close.

take it for what its worth

Id hope to see Broxton, Furcal + in return for any Manny Trade

that really helps are bullpen and our SS situation.

Plus it gives us a good top of the order guy in Furcal

Kemp would be the most ideal, but I'd rather have Betemit over LaRoche and Fiurcal.

obviously, but its a matter of the Dodgers parting with those guys because they have significantly more value than Betemit. Anything with Two of Laroche/Broxton/Billingsby + another player would work for me personally.

Is there anything credible to suggest that the Padres would give up Peavy? I can't imagine any scenario where that would be the case...

Thats my thoughts but everyone has been mentioning his name...like I said...if he was available then you get him....but I don't think he would be

Looks like the Dodgers are jumping to the front of the line. Might be good for the Red Sox to sit back and let teams continue to counter each other....maybe that would drive the price up to a Jake Peavy type player.

Im not sure what a Jake Peavy type of player is. He has tremendous upside and has had a few good years. Last year his numbers weren't great but he did have some very good games. He was even more puzzling than Beckett, as I think Peavy has more stuff and was pitching in the weaker NL.

I think we know which teams are looking for manny. They've been listed numerous times. SF, LA, possibly CHW, TEX, maybe a couple more. None of them have the offensive equivalent of a Jake Peavy type of player, which seems concerning to many here. I still hope they'll take prospects in a pre-arranged three way deal for a Peavy type player, names that have been mentioned before.

I really hope we don't just fill a bullpen spot and a 4th OF and a medicore prospect.

Winning aside, I loved watching Manny and the price other people should have to pay to watch him on their team is, for me at least, still high. Not every team gets to watch a hands down, no doubt 1st ballot HOF during his prime with other tremendous hitters around him. He's exciting and reliable and a superhuman hitter. He can hit ANY pitcher in almost ANY game. By the 3rd or 4th AB against a guy Manny will have hit the ball hard at least once that day, against mediocre guys he hits it hard 4 out of 4 times it seems. That's worth a lot and I think the FO knows it, that's why he's stuck around the last 3 years.

EDIT: The image I will always have of Manny is his characteristic enormous rip at a pitch up and in, fouling is straight back, and the entire crowd going ohhhhh because he just missed an absolute shot. For every enormous HR Manny had he had like 3 of those things.
