I don't see why the Red Sox don't go after Micheals. He plays pretty good defense, and has shown the ability to get on base throughout his career. He wouldn't cost nearly as much as Coco Crisp, and he would do a serviceable job for us for '06.

wow... you think Crisp is high priced eh?

and then tell me who's not expensive... and BTW.. if Coco comes aboard, the Sox have his rights until 2009

I do agree with your Username though

i think he meant we wouldnt have to give up as many quality players to get crisp. We'd need to deal marte for any crisp deal. For Michaels we'd have to give up a decent pitcher.

I haven't seen Marte play on the ML Level... I know what Clement is capable of...

I also know what Crisp would bring to the table.. and he'd be rapping 2B's off the Wall all year long...

Crisp is the best option the Sox have and they need to figure something out.. which I think they will..

Deal on for Coco Crisp?

According to Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes, the Coco Crisp, David Riske and Josh Bard for Andy Marte, Guillermo Mota and Kelly Shoppach trade is gaining momentum.

Cleveland left-hander Arthur Rhodes is in Philadelphia on Friday to undergo a physical by the Phillies, which will enable the Guardians to obtain CF Jason Michaels. We've heard rumors that the trade contains contigencies on Mota's health. The rumor is, if Mota spends a certain amount of time on the DL in 2006 the Red Sox may be required to send another prospect to Cleveland. Jan. 27 - 12:07 pm et

The deal is about to be announced, for now that is...

BoSox, Tribe close to completing Crisp trade

Coco Crisp looks like he's going to the Red Sox, after all.

The Sox and Guardians are close to completing their much-discussed, multi-player trade in which the Sox will acquire Crisp to be their new center fielder, FOXSports.com has learned. The Guardians agreed Friday to send left-hander Arthur Rhodes to the Phillies for outfielder Jason Michaels, pending physicals, according to the Associated Press. That trade is necessary for the Guardians only if they trade Crisp, who likely will be replaced by a platoon of Michaels and Todd Hollandsworth.

The exact particulars of the Red Sox-Guardians trade are not known, but it is expected that the Guardians will receive top third-base prospect Andy Marte and reliever Guillermo Mota. The original agreement between the teams reportedly had Marte, Mota and catcher Kelly Shoppach going to the Guardians for Crisp, reliever David Riske and catcher Josh Bard, pending physicals.

The Guardians, troubled by the results of Mota's physical, asked that the deal be reworked, specifically requesting that the Red Sox include right-hander Manny Delcarmen. The completion of the Crisp trade also is expected to result in the Red Sox's signing of free-agent shortstop Alex Gonzalez. The Sox might have pursued a trade for Devil Rays shortstop Julio Lugo had they failed to acquire Crisp.

In recent days, the Red Sox and Guardians revived three-way discussions with the Reds about a deal that would have sent Crisp to the Red Sox, outfielder Austin Kearns to the Guardians and Red Sox right-hander Matt Clement to the Reds, but those talks proved fruitless. The Reds, after giving indications that they would be aggressive in pursuing trades following the firing of general manager Dan O'Brien, are modifying that stance under orders from new owner Bob Castellini, according to a major-league source. Interim general manager Brad Kullman could still trade Kearns and others, but the team isn't as anxious to make a deal.

you have to give it to the Red Sox org. After this offseason of many leaks regarding negotiations made it to the public made things harder on Boston., such as theo's contract discussions at the end of last October.

They were able to salvage the deal and keep it quiet for the time being

Wait, I'm confused.

Is it the same deal that was being originally discussed? And, if so, why would they want Mota after that physical?

they'll take mota, since he didn't technically fail his physical, but if hes on the DL for a certain amount of time, the sox might have to give the Guardians an additional prospect.

say the Guardians are out of the race come next august and september. what if mota comes down with a suspicious injury late in the year when their season is already over. i think if he is hurt and the Guardians are already out of the playoffs that nothing should go to them. they could easily make up a fake injury late in the year in order to receive another player from the red sox.

Chances are they took that under consideration. You can write an agreement a number of ways. Just like they do with contracts there are certain factors that come into play. I wouldn't be worried about the potential extra player or the cash.

this is probably the last major move of the offseason, unless Wells goes. The sox will know must likely sign A. Gonzalez and maybe make some minor moves or invite guys to spring training.

I worry about that too. We're already going to have to give them Mota and Marte, two good guys. It would be ******** if they robbed another guy out of us.
