    1-Every team does this. Pulling an SP in the 1st or 2nd inning is a recipe for disaster. You use 7 RPs for one inning each, then maybe have to use 4 of them the following night, and you have no one left. In addition, there is an argument in favor in favor of leaving an SP in long enough to get his full workout. 2-Every team does this. Just because there is no game to be won, doesn't mean you never have your closer pitch. It had been a week since Chapman had pitched.

    If we win the next 30, you won't see him for a month. IRT his complaints, if you complain about everything, you'll be right at least once in a while.

    Not at all, The big failure would've been trading off Yoshida for $4M in payroll savings. But the bigger failure would've been trading off Abreu for Paredes. You can assume neither that we would make an elegant trade yielding value + fit, nor assume we'd have made a bad trade. At this point, probably every target fans wanted is underperforming.

    I've seen guys from .450 to .750 in two games, frequently, this early in the season. Muncy went from .623 to .946 in one game. Soler was at .613 after 48 PAs, to .849 only 31 PAs later.

    1-Sacrifices are no longer a big thing. 2-IKF had a sac bunt that the catcher threw away. That would've been our 2nd, and 2 is the league average.

    I'd like to see some support for that assertion. Masa is, and always had been, a very good hitter.

    I'd say that's the case at least half the time for upper-echelon SPs. Even with bad location, those pitches are extremely hard to hit.

    Masa is the least of my concerns. Ideally, we'd have swapped on out, but I am extremely happy he is still with us. Half the board would've dumped him for $4M of payroll relief.

    I thought of saying something, but didn't feel this issue required the attention it's already gotten. GMs don't replace professionals with journeymen based on extremely s/t results. Monasterio has shown he can play, even if just a bench role. There is a reason Cheng has been on 5 teams this year. He probably can't play. He had 1 HR last year against 99 strikeouts. Just because he's ha a good week doesn't mean he is getting promoted.

    This stuff is often overlooked. Inevitably, someone will question why we didn't sign 'xxx'. But ofttimes, the biggest shortfalls are at positions we never intended to replace. Our biggest problems, relative to expectations, are Narvaez, Story, Duran, and Durbin. And the first three were never going to be replaced.

    That was as rapid as it gets. 4-0, with a guy on 1st, Two walks, a 2B off the wall and the coup de grace HR on the 1st pitch. I'm not sure that took 5 minutes to go 'a lot of trouble' to 'time to go home',

    Cheng is 1-8 in his last two games. We can't be gauging people on how they play day-to-day.

    First off, I agree that it entertaining. This isn't like watching 8 different cuts of someone getting tagged at 2nd. You tap your cap and a screen magically appears. I think the fans will love it. Past that, I like systems that have to played judiciously. It would be insane to challenge a call, early in the game, no one on, and 2 outs. But, if you think the umpire missed the call by three inches, then it makes sense to challenge. But you could be wrong. Maybe a bit akin to stealing 2nd down 5-0. Ordinarily, not a good move. But if you are 95% sure that the pitcher just lost track of you, then it becomes a lot more sensible. IMHO, you just need to develop a comprehensive approach where you weigh the marginal cost/marginal benefit of each challenge.

    I'd still wager that the RS make the playoffs.

    I'll gladly acknowledge that anyone 'could' be using, but I don't see anything compelling about Walker. The guy has always been really big. And the Cards development team gave him the Jo Adell treatment. Walker got promoted at age 20, with no AAA ABs. Almost no one can succeed at that level.

    IMHO, it is so much more than that. I feel a Papi vibe. He plays smart BB, on a team that, well, enough said. He seems to be always smiling, and that helps when you have kids that might be struggling. I'm not sure he is a great fielder, but this is like when we switched from Devers to Bregman, where you have this peaceful feeling that a GB to 3rd, with 2 outs and a guy on 1st, is actually a good.

    Overall. It was already too small a sample.

    I'd be shocked if they promoted him. And I'll give you another reason not to. There is a decent chance that we will lose a pitcher to injury, or to under-performance. Or maybe shut down Early early for innings. I'd make a small wager that we'll be looking to realign our rotation in August, maybe looking for that #4 playoff starter. I still doubt Tolle will be ready in August, but that might be one of those moves that energize the team down the stretch.

    I don't think that applies to guys like Early. You play the service for future stars. I like Early well enough, but I'll be happy with 6 years of being a #3. I see no compelling reason to jerk him around just because you think he might become a highly-paid FA in 3032.

    I agree. Tolle could be really good. Don't try to shortcut it just because we need a 5th lefty in the BP.

    I wonder if NYY fans (5 straight losses) and TO fans (-25!), have quit for the season?

    So would that mean that other teams being better than us means that we're better? I only ask because the other 29 teams will combine for a .495-.505 winning % at year-end, no matter what we do.
