    Therein lies the problem. We no longer carry that type of weight. The opening bid has to start with Arias + Tolle.

    Don't get me wrong, I think Yordie is this generations Papi. But Paredes might be just as important to us at 1/3 the price. But I'm interested in hearing what fans would be willing to trade.

    Paredes + a good 7th inning guy, plus Crochet of course, and I just see no way that aren't an excellent team.

    Re-visit Paredes. He's not doing anything special, so the ask might only be a decent+ prospect, which is fair.

    I'd start him at 3rd and not think twice. But first you need to convince Posey to take back Masa, take a decent, non-premium prospect, and eat another ~ $60-70M. No GM ever likes to look that bad, that soon. Keep in mind, Devers is starting to hit.

    Besides the fit, there was never a moment where I thought he wasn't going to re-sign with the Phillies. They aren't the Dodgers, Mets or EE, but when DD wants to sign someone, he pays whatever he has to.

    Story for MVP? Some sloppy ABs for the Phillies in the 9th. Chapman walked Schwarber, so Harper probably should've taken a pitch to start his AB. Then he walks Turner on 4 pitches, none particularly close, and Bohm swings at the first pitch? Good win, but we had an 8/0 K/W, which is ugly. We should give Durbin a day or two off. We have a very good pitching staff, even without Crochet and Suarez.

    It was possible, but a good bit less than likely. We had Abreu as our DH, and Yoshida as our backup DH. Given our needs elsewhere, DH was not where we needed to spend $30M. He re-signed with Philly and I assume that was always his plan.

    I take 100% credit. I traded him today for probably a worse SS, since the other guy was also a RS fan. Told him "I hope he proves me wrong and goes 30/30 the rest of the way'.

    It's more accurate to say that none of the likely moves would've worked out, at least where we are now. Contreras over Alonso is a no-brainer. Marte for either Tolle or Early, plus Mayer, is a non-starter Bichette is a non-starter. E. Suarez is a non-starter. Bregman would be a negative so far. One could argue in favor of Duran/Paredes, but my understanding is that Houston wanted Abreu, which is once again, a non-starter. One could cherry-pick a couple of signings that were never going to happen, or never considered, but among the more popular moves discussed in here, none would've worked out.

    And again, as I point out everyday, the issue is Story, Anthony, Duran, Crochet & Bello. They are NOT the only issues, but if we had last year's stats from them, we'd have already clinched a playoff spot.

    That's my favorite part of the conversation. Marte, Bregman, Bichette, etc., to revert to form. As I do Story, Duran, (Anthony and Crochet as well, if healthy). But to hear fans say, or at least imply, "if only we paid $72M for Bregman's and Bichette's combined 0.2 bWAR, and traded Tolle and Mayer for Marte's 0.2, we'd be doing great", is amusing.

    A very fair observation. But Story & Duran have been every bit the problem as Anthony, Mayer and Durbin.

    1-You can justify any player signing on that basis. We should've signed signed Bichette and traded Tolle & Early for Marte, because both guys might have a .900 OPS at Fenway. 2-My understanding was that the biggest issue for Bregman was the no-trade.

    Years 4-5-6 count also. And I'd bet serious money that those years are cheaper than they would've been. And the TOMORROW comments can go for every player. Since there is a chance that you won't want Bregman, Alonso or Bichette TOMORROW, then I assume you would want them (or any FA). And the chances of me not wanting a 4.0 bWAR player earning $3.75M is about -0-.

    Sure, but my hindsight guesses are incredibly accurate.

    "If". I had him last year on a couple of roto teams. He was laughably good, and I thought he had one of the best swings in BB. Then he went 233 ABs with 3 HRs and 107 Ks. I still like him, but I'd still take RA over him.

    It's only gone out of style for the RS. The top 10 teams in OBP are averaging 5.00 RPG. The RS? Not so very much. Just for fun, the league average is .320, and we have 3 starters at .250 or under. Out of 176 players that meet the FG minimum PAs, we have the #170, the #172, and the #173. That's almost impossible.

    It is also $17M/3 for years 4/5/6, which is very cheap. Kwan is getting $12M for years 4&5, and maybe $10M for year 6. Adolis Garcia got $24M for years 4/5/6. What payroll flexibility? He gets paid $2.25M instead of minimum wage. What were your plans for the extra $1.5M? And again, in what universe do I want to get rid of him?

    I wouldn't suggest any particular way for a RS fan to enjoy a game. But for me, I like to see the message the game is sending me. If I had a choice between Bello losing 2-1, or Bello losing 11-9, I want the 2-1 loss. If we have/get Crochet, Suarez, Bello, Tolle, and Early, all pitching well, we will win games even with our current offense, And just as important, adding a slugger in a trade is a lot easier than adding a #3 SP.
