  1. You're being ridiculous. It is fine to anticipate that any given player might get injured. But you sometimes sound like you're waiting for a meteor to hit Fenway. Most, but not all, of our players should be healthy.
  2. 1-I picked Alonso for the RS in the FA contest. But I believe Okamoto is a better fit because he can also play 3rd. 2-Marte would be a real nice fit. But AZ has to trade him and I need to see the price before passing judgement. I'm also not sure AZ is interested in another LH OF. Thomas in CF is not a great option, but they seem to like his defense. That said, I don't get caught up in wanting any one particular player. There are still 9 FAs that could help us, and numerous trade possibilities.
  3. 12/11/24 we traded for Crochet. 12/10/24 we signed Chapman 2/15/25 we signed Bregman It's early.
  4. I think the IRS, and the SEC, and FINRA, etc., frown upon making up depreciation numbers. I've done some fancy footwork on impairment write-downs, but depreciation is locked in.
  5. That's what I like about Okamoto. He's a solid alternative to Mayer, Casas, or Yoshida, if something goes wrong. And the downside, imho, is a very good backup for a reasonable price.
  6. That's always the fun part. Did teams trying to get ahead of the competition do so by overpaying? Will there be players struggling to find a contract in January, or will there be teams struggling to find a play in January. I always, always measure these things by who is left, not who has signed. My favorite DD signing was JD. JD waited and waited. Boras put out one leak after another about the number of teams interested. But DD knew the RS had the best offer and never batter an eyelash and landed him at a good price.
  7. Just go position by position and compare what we did in 2025, compared to what FG considers out replacement(s). If we add Marte, I am betting that we will have a better OPS in 2026.
  8. We lost parts of Anthony, Abreu, and Bregman.
  9. The league difference is 21 points. Not that big a deal. And we were 9th in OPS+.
  10. If Duran, Story, Rafaela, Narvaez, Anthony and Casas all have bad seasons, then we are best off not signing anyone.
  11. That's not the important trade. Carter was the guy the RS traded for Billy Wagner. While many trades how worked out worse, the Wagner trade was one of the stupidest trades in history. He was a Type A FA. We paid one month salary ($1.6M) for Wagner, and got two first round draft picks out of it. How did the Mets miss that?
  12. Not if they're hitters. Last year, there were only 6 hitters 36 or older that had 300+ PASs, and their combined fWAR was 3.6. Even if you expanded that to 34 and older, you only have 3 guys with an fWAR higher than 2.3. For all practical purposes, age 33 is your last year in baseball.
  13. Nor should it. Hugely expensive, poor Fenway experience, lefty, and has missed 142 games in the last three years..
  14. If you're losing 1% per year, it is like facing a 98 mph FB instead of a 95 mph FB. And it's also wear-and-tear on ligaments and cartilage. My muscles feel as good as they did a long time ago. But I don't have nearly the elasticity in my elbows or my shoulders.
  15. Going down the rabbit hole, but: I make a shake every day, and yogurt is part of it. I belive that the healthier your gut is, the easier it is to absorb nutrients, and the easier to flush out toxins. Leg strength helps decrease and mitigate falls, which can be an quality of life threat. And the same with arm strength. The stronger you are, the more involved with life you'll be. After half-assing it for years, I am finally getting some consisdtent time at the gym, and I can feel the difference. I have no idea how someone my age is 'supposed' to feel, but I don't feel any different than 40 years ago. And my spouse laughs at me, but I see no reason why I cannot be much better.
  16. It was a great contract, for a year. Pujols was a great contract, for a year. Rendon was a great contract, for a year. Bogaerts was a great contract, for a year. They're all great contracts, until they aren't.
  17. I seriously doubt anyone is trading for his remaining $190M/6 without cash trading hands.
  18. A RH DH is a good fit for them, but they still need at least 2 SPs.
  19. I like Paredes, but he is only a small bargain over his current salary. And since I like Mayer as our l/t 3B, I'm lukewarm on Paredes. But no way I deal a 2-year star like Duran for 2 years of Paredes.
  20. My point is that we don't need drastic action. If we upgrade to Marte, we'll easily be a top-10 scoring team, imo.
  21. You cannot change your genes, but every article I've read indicates that extra exercise will delay mental decline. I think it leans towards aerobic exercise, but all exercise helps.
  22. I've seen studies on FG with K-rates by age and velocity. There were some good players that couldn't hit a pitch > 96. There will always be exceptions, but one can't make decisions on an exception basis.
  23. That's about right. He's averaged 3.1 bWAR over the past three years, and FG projects him at 2.6 for 2026. If someone wants to give him a retirement package, we shouldn't follow. And I like Alonso. And just looking at the marginal gains, our biggest 'projected' gain would be at 2B. Both BR & FG project a ~ .820 for Alonso. Both project Casas for .792. The improvement to Alonso is only 28 points. The improvement at 2B, with Marte, might be 140 points.
  24. The position doesn't matter for comparison purposes. It's the 2025 OPS v the starting 9 OPS In an ideal world, Duran or Abreu get dealt. Just for fun, if Duran gets dealt for Marte, it is a further increase of 180 OPS points.
  25. I was pro-Po until I saw his fielding/injury numbers. There's a decent chance he won't play much 2B over the next two years, and he's unlikely to sign for less than that.
