  1. I was a little surprised by his lack of athletic instinct for a guy that's a pretty good athlete.
  2. It's been like this on the internet for a 100 years. And not just the RS. For fans that don't like the GM, for any team, every good move is attributable to luck or the owner over-ruling the GM.
  3. That's why I didn't address 2025. He had one legit injury, so I don't know if he was dogging it. And the house getting broken into could've affected him. I'm prone towards overlooking things if they are one-time issues.
  4. That's always been a pet peeve of mine. There is a risk with every player, and context is king. Prospects flame out more than vets do, but at a far lower cost. But highly ranked prospects flame out less often. Just like 28 year old free agents flame out less often than 32 year old free agents. Both prospects and veterans can be good or bad risks. The talent is predicting one from the other.
  5. Too lazy for a deep dive, but he averaged 141 games from 2022-24. Weak, but not terrible.
  6. Raffy was finished at 3rd. Whether they signed Bregman or not made no difference. I kind of look at Bregman as the bridge to Mayer. The issue with Casas injury could not have been predicted.
  7. Everyone loves Moon, but Buehler-Oviedo?
  8. That to me is the much more interesting question than which $25M FA we should sign. Almost every minor league player of the year has gone onto successful careers, and many have had very successful careers. The past 15 years have included: Trout Buxton Bryant Snell Acuna Vlad Witt Gunnar Holliday Campbell I entered the off-season thinking he should be trade bait, but the company he keeps is very exclusive.
  9. Welcome to the club. I love diversity of opinion.
  10. .898 career at Fenway.
  11. Probably. If Seattle is uninterested in trying to re-sign Suarez, I don't see them going after Bregman either. I'll give you one other factor. Bregman has made a gazillion $$$. He likely wants a shot at the HOF. He could opt for a longer deal in Fenway, at a big AAV discount, just to accumulate numbers. He is currently 16.9 bWAR short of 60.
  12. Bell won't be here. I'd bet serious money that Casas will out-perform him.
  13. It was $31M including deferrals He got injured If no one wanted to pay him last year, will they want to pay this year? I have no doubt he'll improve on the $31.2M CBT * 2 that he opted out of. It is a matter of how much other teams are willing to go.
  14. LOL! I have to go tell my spouse that someone called me young. I just thought that you were being generous, and didn't want to call "Gray+Oviedo equals Buehler+Gio" an ill-founded comparison.
  15. All this nonsense falls under the category of "Yes, anything can happen". It's like me arguing against acquiring a #2 because Early & Tolle "might" develop into legitimate #2 SPs. Yes, that can happen. But I plan on things that are more likely than less likely.
  16. What? You think Oviedo can out-perform Buehler's 5.45?
  17. Is "interesting" a euphemism for "ridiculous"? And he was actually ranked #1. Pitt passed on him to save money for later signings. Detroit passed because they wanted to build an uber-rotation. I forget the other guy.
  18. Let me guess: Lowest payroll in baseball Sell off Fenway Park for housing Create environment destruction on a global scale
  19. Then we are the best team in the AL, imo. And imho, if we add a #2 and either Okamoto or Marte, then we are the best team in the AL.
  20. Obviously everything depends on price, but Alcantara and Lodolo are my two primary foci. I think they would be more reasonably priced, and could be extension candidates. I'd prefer Burns or Chandler, but that would require a serious commitment of prospects.
  21. I still can't believe that the Yankees whiffed on him. He'd have been perfect for them. And even with $189M left, I could still make a case for them trading for him.
  22. You don't know how interested they were, or if they were interested at all. You don't know if we have $20M to spend, or if we have $40M to spend. And you don't know which positions we are prioritizing.
  23. I'd be very happy with that. As I mentioned before, our problem this year wasn't hitting. It was our #4-5-6-7-8 SPs. They went 15-26. With a better bottom half of our rotation, we'd have run away with the division. I know our rotation is deeper now, and we lost some hitting, but I want our #1-4 SPs to be favored in almost every game.
  24. Every team has things that can go wrong? Bregman can miss 48 games again. Alonso can revert to his 2.6. Bichette can revert to his -0.3. Or, maybe Duran can revert to his 8.7. Maybe Ceddanne continues his development and delivers a 5.5. Maybe Casas reverts back to his .830 from his first three years. Maybe Campbell reverts to his minor league player of the year form. Maybe Mayer fulfills his top-15 rating. You can't make plans based on everything going wrong.
  25. He's going to spend between the 1st and 2nd tax levels. You may or may not like the players that Breslow signs, but the spending levels are pretty likely. I'd make a serious wager we go over the first level.
