  1. I wonder if NYY fans (5 straight losses) and TO fans (-25!), have quit for the season?
  2. So would that mean that other teams being better than us means that we're better? I only ask because the other 29 teams will combine for a .495-.505 winning % at year-end, no matter what we do.
  3. Absent Bello's and Suarez' first two starts. our ERA is 3.14.
  4. I thought Bello good. Not great, but guys like him seldom look flashy. Contreras has looked so good it's ridiculous. Anthony is a slight concern. I don't care about the stats, but he looks slightly off. IMHO, with Duran, it was only a matter of time. More importantly, that is one time through the rotation with everyone looking good. IMO, that's big. Meanwhile, TO has lost 8-10 and the NYY have lost 5 in a row. I think that's statistical noise, but some people believe in that.
  5. I don't think professional GMs weight one week as all that important. Heck, even in fantasy leagues, I'd say 98% of the GMs pay very little attention to weekly results.
  6. I agree, Except for Suarez, who just looked great. And except for Contreras, who's been one of my favorite players.
  7. Almost all the guys some fans thought were a 'must-signs' have been awful. Alonso .522 Bregman .609 Bichette .628 Paredes .682 Marte .585 Suarez .652 Schwarber .850 is the only 'okay' guy so far. And Devers is at .609. It's early but it is going to be tough to justify those contracts.
  8. That might have been the fly in the ointment. My plain olde guess here that the Houston GM thought this made so much sense for the RS, that Breslow would go through with it, even if the RS took the worst of it. I'm sure a lot of have done the same. Now Houston has Pena back and no place to play Paredes. That said, I wouldn't bet against us making a similar trade.
  9. Most of the discussions are going sideways. Just a couple of notes: It is entirely possible that Houston didn't like the Duran fit. They talked about both Alvarez and Altuve taking games in LF. To be honest, I'm not convinced that Abreu was a good choice for them, since Cam Smith looks like a promising player. Just like we like our guys, other teams like their guys. I wanted Burns, Seth Hernandez, or Bubba. But it is possible there teams wouldn't consider trading them under any conditions.
  10. Yup, that had a -0- chance, LAA doesn't trade their kids, not even the bad ones. And even the 0% speculation, we wouldn't have the prospects to make the move. 5 years of a 5-WAR player would probably start the bidding with Roman Anthony++. But, for those that dislike Breslow, it gave them an opportunity to criticize his handling of the Neto trade.
  11. IMHO, there is always a building component to a rotation. It's difficult to get all 5 on board at the same time, but with just 4 guys consistently contributing, any team can do some damage. Right now. we have maybe 2.5 SPs in the zone. I'd like to get one more decent start from Early, and then get Suarez straightened out. Bello I have worries about, but we can replace one struggling pitcher.
  12. FWIW, Durbin's OPS over the past games is .708. Projecting those three games to 600 ABs, he have 75 runs scored and 150 RBIs.
  13. IMHO, age should be considered in context with length of your contract, If you have only one year, and you're healthy, then the risk premium is much lower. But wearing down could be a consideration.
  14. I doubt any writers have serious inside information. They write for entertainment and clicks.
  15. I wouldn't have done so then, nor would I do it now, Abreu is a better player with more years of control.
  16. All legitimate reasons a guy might struggle. And to summarize, it's too early to start writing off players.
  17. He is #19 if fWAR over the previous 4 years. I don't see anything to suggest he wouldn't be a #2 SP. I'm open to hearing the 'buts', but I don't see any issues.
  18. How many months, weeks, days ago that the discussion was about Gray?
  19. Bo has been awful. I would suggest that it is too early in the season to assess Bo's stats, but the 'early' thing seems banned from this discussion.
  20. Of course. This is what every team in BB does. You develop a farm, and then you play your prospects. And we only have one rookie SP. There is no alternative.
  21. I'm curious how one determines when players are ready and when they are not. My general rule is that, on any date on the calendar, 50% of the players are playing worse than they should, and 50% are playing better than they should (to varying degrees). IRT Story, he was heinous last May, with a .432 OPS and a ridiculous 35/4 K/W. He had two stretches of 62 PAs with a .292 OPS, followed close behind with a stretch of 55 PAs with a .357. So how do we know whether or not he is in one of his slumps, or if he is not ready?
  22. If those two cost us 3 games, then our adjusted record would be 7-5, or a projected 94.5 wins. I'm okay with that.
