  1. I doubt you get anything. Some players have more value for us than someone else.
  2. That's why I gave up my Yankee tickets. I had them for the RS games, and would sell most of the rest. But the Sunday night games would start at 8:00, and last a solid four hours. Good luck catching the subway and bus at midnight. Now it is a more reasonable 2.5 hours. Thank god for Manfred.
  3. I always assumed we'd sign Alonso. But Contreras is currently better.
  4. But Bryant has a .888 OPS at Wrigley. So if the Cubs re-acquired him, he'd be one of the best players in baseball.
  5. You can only work with the real numbers. Every contract is 'okay' if we get to decide what the players will accept. I can see this one sliding sideways like Devers offense. If only Devers continued to play in Fenway, and if only we could've talked Bogarts and Devers into a contract half the size of what they actually received.
  6. Welcome to Talksox stranger. 0-4 by a RS player, and his career is over.
  7. I was high-fiving the fact that we got Contreras instead of Alonso.
  8. 1 HR per every 20 ABs is plenty of hitting for a catcher.
  9. Murphy has a 3.7 bWAR in the the two previous seasons. IMO, he'd be a very good pickup, despite his 14 ABs this year.
  10. Password has a .472 OPS. Tibbs looks like a 200-K guy. Way too early to be declaring victory.
  11. If the deal is to use GPS, or not use GPS, I am 100% all-in for GPS.
  12. I'd be shocked if there was no 2027 season. And I wouldn't surprised if the owners aren't particularly interested in a cap. It's all about % of revenue, and there are always ways around that.
  13. They never should've tried to convert him from being a bulk reliever during the regular season.
  14. EVERY TEAM in baseball was concerned about that. The WS had the advantage of low expectations.
  15. That's almost unfathomable. If we added Mookie, Bogey & Raffy (1.5 bWAR), instead of Contreras, Gray & Suarez (4.8), we'd be behind the Rockies. Not to mention a future obligation of > $600K. You're looking at currently, maybe the 3 worst contracts in baseball.
  16. I just like the annual fight. I've lived through much tougher periods than this.
  17. We paid real money for three players. All three are doing very well. We can't gnash out teeth because we didn't pay more money, for worser players.
  18. To me, that's a competitive advantage. I know a lot of fans looked at Chapman and Adames, and saw overpaid players. But they need to start looking at contracts that can be paid down to a reasonable level. There are easily a dozen guys that are overpaid, but still real players. That should be our focus.
  19. Teacher? School year? Driving back to Maine?
  20. 2 HRs in 34 ABs. Last I looked, y'all were criticizing Durbin for the lack of power.
  21. Most fans probably just watch the games every night and don't bother with the math.
  22. Players muscles are growing faster than the supporting tendons and ligaments. And not a single athlete is going to throw slower, or run slower, or swing slower. When you're trying to make the HS team, the last thing you think about is how your arm will feel in 20 years.
  23. I swear that, when I read this, I read it as "No Boston player ever returned from the IL". Giving the state of communications from the FO, it sounded reasonable for about 20 seconds.
  24. It seems an easy enough fix. Just copy what the NFL does. Both sides work in the best interest of the sport, and both get paid off.
  25. Some of the fans won't be happy trading for projections, or trying to figure out how a player's swing might work in Fenway. Chapman and Adames have combined for 13 HRs in the past 28 days. We'd be in 1st had we traded for them when I suggested it. Adell is nowhere near them as an overall player, but I reckon he'd be a 30+ HR hitter in Fenway.
