  1. I would do all 4 of those pitchers for marte in a heartbeat lol. Crawford, Harrison, Dobbins, Sandoval. And wed still have Crochet, Gray, Tolle, Oviedo, Early, Bello, Drohan, Uberstine Could use one more 3/4 starter, so maybe try to hold Crawford back but if you need to include him you do and maybe sign a #5 starter.
  2. Yup, BOYS can contribute but you need MEN to win in the playoffs. Even Jordan didnt dominate his first few years in NBA
  3. This guy is nothing if not reasonable.
  4. Our offense needs help, and its not going to come from Mayer who is not strong at all (Breslow challenged him on that) or Anthony (who does not have all of his man-strength yet) or Casas (he's not healthy, nor is he particularly good when he is healthy) Some of the help may come from those guys, but if we are counting on this group, then its just more complacency and more third or fourth place.
  5. Because Marte is better than every single hitter on the red sox currently by a significant margin. Next question
  6. I think Anthony could sophmore slump, and we shouldnt ask this much of a 22 year old either (he doesnt even have his man strength yet). Abreu (good point), Mayer (also doesnt have man strength, cant count on health and hes never shown an ability to be a plus hitter in MLB, but hes lifting weights now, so Im open to it, but its a question mark), Casas isnt healthy (theyve been telling you that), Yoshida = okay, but hes mostly a singles guy without the wheels. These BOYS are not a replacement for Duran, Bregman, Devers (MEN). ANd also, its not like you get all of Abreu when comparing to last year's team. Its about how much additonal WAR are you going to get on top of the WAR you got from Abreu last year.
  7. No. Marte is a proven, extremely good hitter. We have 0 of those. Okamoto is not that. The closest thing we have is Duran. Losing Duran and bringing in Okamoto is a minus to an already weak offense.
  8. My only issue is your belief that Early is better than Tolle, but I hate parting with either. But gotta give to get. My offer is Rafaela + Bello. Tolle's upside is Crochet.
  9. What about Hicks for Teoscar Hernandez? Thats one that could work for both sides.
  10. He was when he was younger, and I think LAD would eat a lot of contract, and hes a cheap way to add 30 ding-dongs and theres been mutual interest in the past. I dont particularly think we'll get him, I dont particularly want him (but think I would like the move more than most here who would be like "an outfielder?") I was half serious. The most serious part about my lineups is I honestly do believe that we'll continue to embrace positional versatility and theyll sign guys in that mold (and I know Teoscar isnt one of them) but I do think youll see a lot of moving goes around teh diamond defensively as guys get banged up, hot/cold, righty vs lefty opposing starter. I can see them getting Contereas, and I can see him catching more than might think, I think if we see Campbell he will NOT be exclusively an OF'er, I dont think Cedanne will be exclusively an OF'er. If we resign Bregman ,I can see him playing some 3rd, 2nd, 1st, and even some OF. I think musical chairs is here to stay (league wide). Maybe not forever, but I dont think we are in teh ninth inning of the "musical chairs era"
  11. Perfect comparison, and yes, being liked be teammates is important and makes it more likley that past issues wont lead to clubhouse. But speaking for myself (your comparison still very valid): I begrudgingly root for Chapman, I would love him if it wasnt for the domestic violence I would begrudgingly root for Ozuna, I would love him if it wasnt for the domestic violence The only difference (for me) is that Ive liked Ozuna for a while an wanted the sox to sign him 3-4 years ago and I didnt like Chapman (or root for him) until he came here. But now that chapman is here, yeah kind of same boat. Hold my nose and root for them on the field. Or at least their laundry.
  12. keep it simple, keep it believable, feels like a good chance to be the team
  13. I wish Ozuna wasnt a sh*t head, otherwise I could completely get behind this. I do think when playoffs roll around, they'll want the 4 OF'ers in and I can see some scrambling arouond with positions to make that happen. Likely, not everyone will be healthy , so it will prob be easier to figure it out then than it is now
  14. Its neither, its an outside the box curveball, against the grain, very unlikely but something i can justify.
  15. No, Teoscar Hernandez does not top my wish list lol. But I do think LAD could maybe eat a lot of his salary and ship him out, and I can see him resurging here.
  16. Anthony DH/LF/CF/RF Duran DH/LF/CF/RF Hernandez (Teoscar) DH/LF/CF/RF Eugenio Suarez 3b/1b Abreu RF Story SS/2b/3b Contreras 1b/C Nav C Cedanne 2b/CF Crochet/Tolle/Gray/Early/Oviedo Bello/Harrison are traded. Casas and Sandoval try to work their way back but cant. The positions are fluid, guys play different positions every night. But they go after Teoscar becaus the Dodgers eat a lot of money and he has a fenway bat and has wanted to play here for a while. He ends up costing near $0 and becomes the mvp of the team. The other targets are made because they can play multiple positions, and its musical chairs. Yoshida not depicted above but gets a good amount of playing time as the trend of resting guys/injuries/changing up your lineup depending on pitching continue (and accelerate). Its going to feel like we dont have a set lineup or defensive alignment. Its gonna be a deck shuffle every night Nav ends up sophmore slumping, moving Contreras to full time C, and Yoshida to full time 1b for playoffs. Cutter Crawford has a good year out of the pen. We beat the dodgers in the world series, with of course, teoscar hernandez as ws mvp. He flips off the dodger fans as they boo him. Teoscar wins reg season, playoffs, and WS MVP. Fight me.
  17. this is why you'll often see me pick on em for laziness. Its not even the having to deal with the already being #1 in payroll and needing to make cost cutting moves due to dudes needing raises. I would have forgave that. It was taking the easy option. Finding the biggest contract and circling it and sending it. Could have found a better way to shave the money, but that would have taken time and effort and instead they chose the shortest route to slash payroll, and i havent forgiven that. I also hated rolling the same mediocre players over year after year, again, laziness. Why spend time working to upgrade your roster when you can spend that time on a boat!?!
  18. I liked load. Wheres your crown, king nothing?
  19. trying to land a verbal knockout, but this reads as petty. Point deducted.
  20. needing to move money was predictable. we knew there would have to be some wheeling and dealing. the notion that the best way to do that was trading betts started gaining steam. And i started getting nervous. I disagree "how" we did it was predictable, but some did present it as a good move (trade betts to deal with the cliff). I knew it was a terrrrrrrible decision. I always thought, up until the trade, that we wouldnt actually do it. Then we did it and I flipped out. Joe Brady told me it was the best trade ever made because if Verdugo is a 3 WAR player on a 1m deal thats 3WAR/1mil value, and had we gave betts 27m, he never would have been a 81 WAR/yr player (27*3) so the ratio of WAR /mil spent is better with verdugo and for this reason OMG did we ever just fleece the dodgers. Joe got the trade and the era that he wanted. EVerything from a value perspective. 4 last place finishes later and hes still on here talking down to people telling us that we dont understand how to divide WAR/dollars when its him that doesnt realize that chasing value only gets you so far and sure it can set you up real nice, but to win it all, eventually you need talent and a team of 26 2WAR players all making min wage loses to a team of 26 4 WAR players all making 10m even though the first team is better from a WAR/$$ spent standpoint. But I dont wanna be unfair, Joe did recently say something like hes willing to overpay when we are close if its gonna put us over a hump, and thats when i cooled on taking cheap shots at joe (for now)
