  1. Kind of hard to do that when Bloom was looking for that 3rd option in the fork in the road.
  2. Like I predicted a few weeks ago that Alfaro would beat out Wong injured, or not. We’ll see who’s right.
  3. Alfaro is in. Wong is out.
  4. If they carry 5 OF with Tapia, and the Ref Man that would leave the IF 1 less spot, which could leave Bobby D out, and Chang in.
  5. All this concern about Bobby D playing SS in a meaningless ST game to me is all about nothing. Like I said before there are a lot more things to be concerned about for the 2023 Red Sox than this.
  6. So I guess Sale can’t pitch the second game either with this analogy, or will pitching him 2 days later make him more ready to go 5-6.
  7. Whitlock threw 16 pitchers today with 3 K’s, and 1 BB.
  8. If it was someone better than Ref Man yes, but I’m just not high on Ref Man, and would take Tapia over him.
  9. Amazingly he didn’t get hurt then.
  10. Sale is going to be hyped up rather he pitches opening day, or the second day. I’m not worried about him arm. None of his problems last year was arm related.
  11. I wouldn’t really call it a judgement, but that’s the decision.
  12. Last year there was more on an emphasis on D in the OF too, but now that seems to be out the window also. You are one of the ones mentioned in an earlier post that values the Ref Man more than others, which I don’t, but that’s just my opinion. I would go with Tapia.
  13. I think Sale is a big boy, and could handle the xtra pressure of pitching on opening day, and would also want the ball on opening day.
  14. Both guys have been around long enough, so no ST should not be a deciding factor. I’m just not that high on the Ref Man, and I’ll agree that he deserves a look, but not a long one. If it would come down to Tapia, or the Ref Man I would go with Tapia.
  15. Agree. The Ref Man did have a good year with he bat last year especially against LHP, but his bat has not been very productive for the rest of his career, so was last year just a career year for him, and he’ll go back to just being a journeyman with not much upside. The Ref Man isn’t that good of a OF, but he is a RHH if that matters that much. D in the OF doesn’t seem to be a big priority for the Red Sox this season as they have a LF more suited for DH, a CF who is more suited for RF, and a RF who is more suited to play LF, so we’ll see what happens.
  16. Tapia has played LF more than the others, but he did play 30+ games in CF, and RF last year. I would rather have him than the Ref Man.
  17. I don’t get it either, but that’s Cora. Cora said he wanted Sale to enjoy opening day, and not having to pitch. A wild guess here, but I think Sale would enjoy opening day a lot more if he was the starting pitcher.
  18. Kluber to start opening day!
  19. Opportunities from missing players from the WBC I think are driving this. Guys are playing more than they would have in these games, because Raffy, and Kike are missing. If the Red Sox keep both Tapia, and the Ref Man to start the season that’s 1 less IF they will keep. If that is good, or bad for Bobby D we’ll just have a few weeks left to see. Bobby D might not even make the big club.
  20. If all goes well maybe Whitlock opens the season in the BP, and Houck will open in the rotation like last year.
  21. Hey, the Ref Man finally got a hit, and a HR to boot. Does he beat out Tapia?
  22. Arroyo wasn’t an OF, and Franchy wasn’t an IF. Bobby D while might not be a good one is at least an IF who hasn’t played SS in a regular game this year. There should be all kinds of worries going into the regular season for the Red Sox, but I don’t believe Bobby D playing SS in a ST game is one of them. ST is for pitchers to get their work in most importantly, so I don’t think you could cancel it.
  23. He has had a couple of cameos in a regular season game, so it’s not like he hasn’t done it before.
