All that really matters right now is how things have turned out, and I still don’t like the Red Sox paying Atlanta $17M for a suspect, and I bet JH doesn’t either. I’m not claiming hindsight at all , but just how things have turned out.
Yes, and I don’t take back any of those especially that I would have Never given Sale the extension that DD did in the first place, and I said it when it happened. The big thing in all of this Sale stuff now is the way it’s turned out, and as usual the Red Sox could have used Sale this year pitching like he has.
I wasn’t questioning Cora, but only asking on why he only threw 4 pitches, and didn’t come back out. I know every pitch thrown either in the BP,, or warming up between innings all add up, but Martin was the best option for the 9th.
And the Braves are thanking the Red Sox 17M times over for not doing it. And as things have turned out A win for the Braves, and a loss in more ways than one for the Red Sox.
One can’t argue that payroll was cut. They may have saved $10M on what they are paying Sale, but Gio might not have been signed if they didn’t. Sale would have cost $27M, but still paying Sale $17M, and paying Gio $18M does not add up to any savings to me.
And for good reason. Things couldn’t have gone any more wrong for the Red Sox even if the Red Sox had planned it that way. Sale is a CY Young candidate pitching for another team that the Red Sox are paying him $17M to do so. Gio was signed, and hasn’t pitched 1 inning this year, and the Red Sox are paying him $18M not to do so. Then we get to Grissom who so far has been MIA both on, and off the field.🙈🤭
A 2-4 home stand that could have been 3-3, and also could have been 1-5. Now a nice little 7 game road trip where the Red Sox have played better ball. Balt, and Houston, which should be a fun trip. On the road again. I just can’t wait to get on the road again.
Of the 9 HR the Astros hit this past weekend that averaged 423 ft 7 of the HR was hit off Bailey’s philosophy of sweepers, off speed pitchers, or anything else you want to call non fastballs.
If that’s the case then hopefully they get something good out of him for those 2 years. It’s not like the money they’ll have spent on him would have been put to good use to upgrade the rotation anyway.
Unfortunately not only is it happening in another uniform, but the Red Sox are paying him to do it. Win, Win for Sale, and the Braves. JH must be hating the fact that he’s footing the bill, and also paying Gio $38M for maybe 1 season of work.
Well said, and now he’ll have to be better than he was before, because most likely he’s going to hear a lot more now from the fans than he did before. I don’t think that his F’em T-shirt will work very good either.
I’m pretty sure the Sale updates will continue the rest of the year. The Big difference between Sale, and Dugy is that the Red Sox could have really used Sale’s pitching, and as for Dugy he isn’t missed in the OF at all for the Red Sox, so there is a big difference there.
