  1. Mike Hazen?
  2. But what happens if the 20 balls missed by A don't result in a run scored? And the 10 errors by B results in 10 losses? That's the problem with WAR.
  3. It's time to move on. It's been 5 years now, with a break. The magic is gone from 2018. Don't see it being rekindled.
  4. As of yesterday, and forgetting about the bust Jeter Downs, summing up Verdugo and Connor Wong's numbers, they combine for 108 more hits than Betts (32 more doubles). Yes they have 40 less total bases (60 less homers), 42 less walks, 21 less stolen bases, but they only have 40 less run scored and 29 less RBI. We dumped salary which is important. A star will be available. Now go sign Ohtani.
  5. Are we going to be buyers or sellers or staying put the next day and half? We are 2.5 out of wild card, effectively in last place with Yankees. Our relief has cost us two games now in SF. No offense.
  6. Chang has an OBP of 0.2. That's beyond terrible.
  7. Kiki is supposed to be in the Dodger's starting lineup tomorrow. We have to pay $2.5 million of his remaining contract.
  8. The Dodgers got Chris Taylor back. Trayce Thompson is rehabbing. They also have Jonny Deluca also in the outfield (his defense is terrific). JD has a hammy injury, not sure if serious. As for us, the Red Sox have played far better than what I thought they would (eating some crow). Story hit a homer in his first game at Portland, but he drew the collar yesterday. He had a single and a walk and committed an error in today's combined no hitter. He was pinch run for later in game (not sure what that was about). I wish the team would not do the forearm bash as Story did on that homer (Kiki dislocated Bellinger's shoulder in game 7 of the NLCS after Bellinger hit what would later be the game winning homer, it's taken two plus years to recover). Hopefully McGuire is ready in two weeks.
  9. Take two aspirin. Don't worry, we won't be getting Ohtani as Jackie Bradley is available. Plus if the Angels are smart, they unload the over-muscled and constantly injured Mike Trout (he's reminding me of this mentor Albert Pujols) and then sign Ohtani to a $500 million contract.
  10. These are stats for the first half of this year. Judge has 19 homeruns in those 49 games. We dropped $300 million on Devers (who is not much of a team guy) and he only has one more HR than Judge in 87 games. Unload him and get Ohtani.
  11. If the Angels would do that trade, then do it. The Angeles need hitters and pitching (like every team). Ohtani is the guy we need to get now. He is the real deal. The Sox have missed out on Freeman, Judge, Seager, Turner, Kershaw, etc. We let Eovaldi, Martinez (both allstars) and Bogaerts walk. Yet we still have Sale who has been a bust (averaging 6.5 wins a year, pretty pathetic acquisition). Story is averaging just 1/3 of hit over each of the 253 games the team has played the last two years. Not good.
  12. MLB & broadcast partners have ruined this event with the clock and the short BP pitching location. The ESPN cameramen could not keep up with each pitch. They were swinging the camera around like a two year old trying to film something. We couldn't even see homeruns, just the pitch and a swing and maybe a quick look to the outfield with the camera panning all over to try to find the ball. Either the director was drunk or blind or was inept, and with the split screen they couldn't match the speed at which the pitches were tossed to the batter. MLB needs to kill the clock and go back to outs. They could also push the pitcher to the real mound, which would also slow the pace of the event and enable the cameramen to actually track and find the ball. It was terrible. And the T-Mobile colors on the screen made me gag as if I was watching LIV golf on the CW. Not good.
  13. Can this thread be retitled 2023 Draft?
  14. Figure it's time to reboot this. Only the hapless A's are further back in their division than us at 31-32. The team stinks. The players and Cora look as engaged as if they were teleworking. Bloom bungled the roster. Both should go. Poor evaluation.
  15. Will the Celtics be the first NBA team to come back from being down 0-3? Game 6 had the amazing finish. Can they equal the 2004 Red Sox tonight? Hope so.
  16. KJ is one pitch away from being a disaster. Nobody here in LA trusted him to get it done. We always sweated it out. Atlanta saw the same.
  17. Opening day has been a pitching disaster. Rutschman has killed us (5 hits, but the last one was an error by Devers). He was on base all 6 times. What has kept us in the game is Baltimore's poor defense (blame the low sun and shadows). Santander looks like he's pushing for permanent DH (he's terrible in left). Not a fan of the pitch or batter clock. This game is 3 hours long as we go to the bottom of 9, trailing 10-7.
  18. Anyone watching? Masataka Yoshida hit a homer today to lift Japan into the semi's against Italy. He's playing well (already 10 RBIs). Ohtani hit 102 today on the radar gun, but didn't make it out of the 5th. US plays Venezuela Saturday.
  19. No chance for us. 72-90. We have like 3 players and and a bunch of not so much.
  20. Mondesi vs Bogaerts. Hmm. Wow, what a step down. If we were bringing on his old man, that would be one thing. Adalberto's career OBP is 0.280. 280? We need people to get on base. Chaim is buying empty bags.
  21. Why are you putting in known PED users like ARod, Manny, Beltran, Sheffield? I guess the PED user Big Papi has set a new standard?
  22. The reality for us Red Sox fans is that this is going to be a long long season with nothing to look forward to and little to cheer for. There is almost no chance that we break even and no chance we are making the playoffs. This is a joke of team, the lineup is Terrible. This is on Bloom and Cora (both of whom should have been fired last year). Where is the power? Let's look at the line up from last game of 2022 (which we won). Of those left, only 4 have ever hit triple figures in hits in a season (Dalbec 1, Kiki 2, Verdugo 3, Devers 4). We have two quality proven starters in that lineup left. Sure, we have Story and now have added Turner, but that's not enough. Kiki Devers Bogaerts Verdugo JD Hosmer Arroyo McGuire Almonte *Dalbec *Chang *Wong *Casas
  23. Why wasn't this done last September?
  24. I look at OBP (as this is a team game, not fantasy). Devers is a good player. He's not a great player. He doesn't walk enough, strikes out too much. Judge's slugging was 0.583. Why didn't we go after him? I didn't hear you bang on that drum. If you look at Soto, his career OBP is 0.424. That's first ballot HOF stuff.
