We should have signed him after the 2021 season (that may have been one of my first posts over here). Play him at 1st base now that the GM has failed at the Alonso signing.
With Diaz leaving the Mets, and Schwarber back to the Phillies, Alonso is going to draw a bidding war with the Mets now with a bigger purse.
We need to get Alonso. What's the holdup?
Oviedo at this point is a number 12. 3 years ago he pitched (32) almost half of the total number of games he's played in (81) over 6 seasons. I don't see this helping us.
JT wants to play full time, not be a backup, or a platoon guy (and rightly so). The constant churn of lineups we put out (which are ridiculous change for changes sake) would likely impact him playing daily. Go get Alonso and Bichette first.
I was kidding about the army thing. He's hit 49 HR's in a season twice. This last season his OBP was 0.298. 198 K's and 16 GIDP, doesn't help matters. And he's 35.
The problem with Suarez is he'll be 35 (and could get drafted into the Venezuela army). His OBP the last few years has been terrible. At the most we would be looking at a one or two year rent option. Doesn't fill the hole for next 3 years.
Like I said last year and will repeat for this coming year, forget about Casas, focus on signing Pete Alonso and first base isn't an issue for 5 years. We need power. And we need it now. Casas is too busy painting his fingernails.
We need to get Alonso. The team has little to no power. The young guys seemed to melt during the dog days. Alonso is a gamer with power throughout the year.
RIP. I was a fan of his game. He played with a lot of great players (from Rice, Boggs, Clemons, Evans, Buckner, Burks, Dawson, Baylor, Henderson, Pena, Vaughn, Reed, Barrett, Armas...).
