  1. If we are really considering paying Soto $400 to $700 million, we could get three very players that would help this team and have less risk long term.
  2. An OBP of 0.34 is rather poor for the power positions (outfield and the corners),. No real big money should be given to any offensive player if their OBP is less than ~0.350 and I would push that to 0.365.
  3. What is up with all the ads on the board. It's almost unreadable now. Anyway if we were able to sign Soto, we should look to unload Devers and Story who are just long term liabilities. We need a second baseman and pitchers. But the Dodgers and Yankees are now closing in on Soto.
  4. If Soto's age to be true (26, from the Dominican Republic), that 0.421 OBP is highly coveted. He gets on base. But he's not Shohei Ohtani (he's not going to bring in more fans). If he is a good teammate, lets go get him.
  5. There are 12 teams with worse odds than us per espn. I think that's a bit optimistic. https://www.espn.com/sports-betting/story/_/id/38801876/2025-world-series-odds-mlb-baseball
  6. There are a number of FA pitchers besides Burns. Freddy Peralta is good. Max Fried, Blake Snell, even the game 1 World Series starters Jack Flaherty and Gerrit Cole. Juan Soto is the star of the FA. Add in Bellinger, Santander, Bregman, Adames, T Hernández, Alonso... Go get someone.
  7. We might as well have been the White Sox.
  8. Does anyone really believe that this current team will improve over 81-81 next year without a number of very good additions? The team need upgrades at almost all positions.
  9. The second half of the season (since All Star break) the Red Sox are 10 games below 0.500. That falls on the Manger and GM. The were looking at the 15 games 82-96 up to the break and saw 10-5, but then went 4-8 to end the month of July. Beating up (33-14) on losing teams like the White Sox (4-3), Angels (4-2), Miami (3-0), A's (5-1), Pirates (3-0), Rangers (4-2), Blue Jays (8-5), Nats (2-1). They are over 0.500 with only 2 of the 14 teams still alive for the playoffs Phillies (2-1) and the Royals (4-2). I am surprised they are 0.500 right now with 2 to go.
  10. Everytime Cora brings on KJ to save a big game I sense imminent doom.
  11. You guys are thinking small. There is no need to trade any of our pitchers. The teams has a bunch of poor offensive players. We have no pop. We need a player who can be a run producing machine. We do not have that. Both Salmon and Alonso fit that description. In division trades aren't going to give us this either. The only other infielder that could be had is Tim Anderson and he's having an off year with the Marlins.
  12. If you were Breslow, which player(s) would you trade for this year? Mike Trout - has no trade, signed through 2030 (38) Pete Alonso - FA Alex Bregman - FA (partial no trade) Paul Goldschmidt - FA (no trade) Trout seems to be going no where with that $200 mil still owed, but he would be a get and would be perfect for Fenway (if we could unload Story as part of the deal). He hasn't been healthy for 5 years. Could a change of scenery improve that. Probably. Alonso has a perfect swing for Fenway. The Mets could unload him. Bregman has a nice career OBP. He's a solid hitter. He's 30. Similar OPS as Devers. Goldschmidt is another solid player at 36. He could play 3 more years. And while need help at 2nd and SS and OF, the team is rudderless.
  13. Let's keep winning. And yeah, Duran should have stole home in the 9th instead of dancing in front of Casas.
  14. If the Yankees add Snell, without a quality addition, the Sox will be lucky to go 72-90. The team has not been improved at all.
  15. He's right on this. https://sports.yahoo.com/pedroia-sent-very-clear-message-211014553.html
  16. Bauer is a no go.
  17. We should be going after players like Blake Snell and Cody Bellinger. We have a team of nobody's. It's obvious we have no intentions on even trying to win.
  18. That's at best a 70-92 club. Looks like tough 2024 for us.
  19. The Red Sox have been nothing short of a disaster in FA.
  20. The Sox are looking like a perennial last place team. We need guys who can get on base (we've got none).
  21. Not yet. The Red Sox should go to the Angels and take Trout off their hands so the Angels can offer big money to Ohtani. The Yanks just killed us by landing Soto (who is an on base machine and with the short porch will be a 50 homer guy every year). The Red Sox need a star that we do not have, otherwise we will be in last place for a decade.
  22. In a word, NO! That's a last place team. It may not be a Royals or A's last place team, but it is not better than any team the AL East. We are stuck with Story, Devers, and Yoshida, like 'em or not (I would keep only Yoshida of those three if I could). The rest of the players are little better than minor league plus journeymen players. I liked Abreu's eye at the plate.
  23. I hate the Astros.
  24. The team can hire anyone who can count and do just as well as any of these insider retread GM types. A team is just that. It's not just a bunch of guys. The team needs to be able to get along, and be willing to play for each other. I'm available. More low OBP isn't going to get it done.
  25. I thought we would win 72 games and at this point with 7 games remaining the team has 76. The team is bad. The coaching is horrible. There are maybe 13 players I keep and the rest deal, cut, send back to the minors. We are stuck with overpaid/overrated Devers, overpaid Sale who is terrible.
