  1. If Triston's rehab progresses normally from a difficult but not terminal injury ( he couldn't run well anyway), he will be in Ft. Myers next ST trying to get his position back. He could also be a throw-in in a winter deal but to what purpose, he costs almost nothing . The biggest holdback on Triston's value is that he can only play 1B, unlike Gonzalez and Hamilton and Wong, so on a 3 man bench plus #2 catcher , there are no seats for a 1Bman only player. Also , if beyond my imagination, this team catches fire and is in the mix come late July, a trade could be in the works for a "real" 1Bman ( Pearce/Schwarber type ) , although the true needs will be starting and/or relief pitching. 1B will be low on Brez's list of needs
  2. going in 27-27 , that comfortable .500 magnet. Not too bad, not too good, just about right . A team on the margin losing their most professional hitter and GG 3Bman, lost their not so great 1Bman , have multiple expected starters on the IL . Playing an infield today with 2 pure rookies, a utility backup, and Abraham Toro at first. Playing the Orioles with a .333 win % in the game that decides the series winner , a key to playoff entry. IMO, this is a must win because a split at home with the O's puts the boys of Spring under the magnet level spinning like a compass on the Titanic. Looking for a better day from " Can't find my keys" Mayer .
  3. Guerrero totally blew his high leverage chance Saturday #2 game giving up a 2 out , run scoring hit that sealed the Red Sox fate on a day when few in the lineup were able to hit and Marcelo K Mayer made his MLB debut watching pitches fly by him.
  4. Obviously an inauspicious debut and minor contributor to a sick 2-1 loss. This team will miss Bregman far more than we would like to acknowledge right now. Think about Mayer's day: He knows that Bregman may have an injury and that Devers will not pick up the slack at 3B. Then sits out the first game of 2 at WooSox , then gets informed he needs to bag his gear and drive to Boston for the second game of the Red Sox DH. Gets interviewed by the kindly Boston press, finds a locker, gets dressed and is at the plate before we have dinner. Not at all shocked that he was in shock and incapable of doing anything. with the bat. I also hope he doesn't need 10 games to get it going or he will be in a serious mental mess. Where does he sleep tonight. Probably drives back to Worcester to get his toothbrush
  5. For Mayer's sake and the teams, I hope the expectations are not off the charts. Playing daily at the MLB level is not easy in any way. We have seen Kristian Campbell's strong start followed by an extended regression period, . Despite couple of hard hit outs today, he still looks lost and takes strikes he should be hitting. His fielding is ok, but not exceptional and now is trying to learn 1B.
  6. Watching the interview with Bregman just now, he sounds like it is significant injury and will take some time to heal and rehab. Hopefully not a 60 day IL, but I would guess 30-45 minimum to come back
  7. Why did the O's pitch to Devers in that situation. primarily to get this miserably long game over. Competing for the #1 draft slot , so the O's can build a young talented team. Oh, you say they already have one . Then WTF ?
  8. Aroldis may be able to go a 2nd inning, if the Sox can't score
  9. Ol' Juan may have bought his way into a miserable situation and is folding under the pressure. Beware of what you wish for. I think that deal does give him a 5th year opt-out. I would bet now, he takes it.
  10. No matter what you learned in school, you cannot spell Story without a K
  11. Swinging through 2 FBs in very hittable locations with 1 out and man on 3rd in a tie game is awful for a veteran player
  12. Possibly could DFA someone, there are several candidates on the 40. F'ing Story comes to mind
  13. For a utility guy, Sogard is not hurting the team, well hit ground ball out does score the tying run
  14. they put Yoshida on the 60 day IL, to open a roster slot for the 1Bman from the Angels ( NODA?) . But he will stay in Worcester because he cannot hit worth a damn
  15. I do not blame Cora for the lack of talent ( ex: Newcomb) and he actually needs to manage pitching for 2 games today. If Breslow had an off ramp from this mess of underperforming starters, I'm sure he would do it. These are the issues to cure in the off season or by MiLB development programs maturing.
  16. You are very correct on this one to the point it is not sustainable to have every game become a "bullpen game".
  17. Newcomb is pitiful , about to let this game get out of hand. Sox haven't hit much after Abreu's HR
  18. Not sure why, but had hopes that Dobbins might break through and bee a starter that could exceed 4+- innings. Instead he leaves a mess on base with no outs in the top 5th , bringing in Newcomb. If he works out of this one with a run scoring DP , I guess that's success So the run scores but couldn't turn the DP.
  19. Is that official now ? I heard a quick blurb that Bregman's quad needs MRI. Not looking good . True, Si o No ?
  20. It's still a bit early , but almost time to say that Connor Wong got Wally Pipp'ed by Narvaez . That has been the outcome from Wong's interference resulting in a pinkie fracture.
  21. Weather in Boston could make this a very long day. Hoping Duran gets 4 bombs today And Abreu too
  22. Assuming both games today are played to a conclusion, be aware that there is no way the Red Sox can finish the day 1 over .500 nor 1 under .500. So it is a big day to establish momentum or repudiate the concept.
  23. If there was a front line, college experienced pitcher , starter or reliever, I would think they could pitch in AA/AAA their first year, then come up during their 2nd year. Position players usually do require more time to develop. If you are going to wait on a pitcher to develop 3 new pitches , then you may be wasting too much time. Let them just reach back and throw , you know, like Bello
  24. The sox continue the burial of Yoshi, now moved to the 60 day IL. predictable in the general sense that there is no role for him in the current lineup. I did see a note that after his cortisone shot in the shoulder that he had to reset his throwing program back to 60 feet . If accurate he may have legitimate issues with his shoulder that were not corrected by the surgery. In any case, a dead money contract . The legacy of Bloom lives on.
