  1. I imagine that Gio goes back on the IL tonight due to some butt soreness. No MLB veteran pitcher gives up 4 in the 1st, has his team actually score 5 for him, then gives back 3 more without being physically incapable of pitching
  2. I think Mayer shows a lot more plate presence and recognition than Campbell does. I'm not yelling at anybody, nor for them. Campbell isn't just in a slump, he is currently seriously flawed at the plate. Mayer also may not be ready but let's give him as many PA's as Campbell to see if he can adjust. Rafaela is a good example of someone who does not adjust but is posting just enough numbers to back up his flyball saving defense . Doesn't make him a good player, just affordable in a 9 man lineup. Trouble is, the team should not have to afford 3 of those guys at once.
  3. Bloom only had analytics to advise him about selecting players at the MLB level . I doubt he had much intuitive baseball knowledge at higher levels. His education tells me a lot about his bright mind, but no real usable smarts. Breslow should actually have a much better feel for guys who will succeed and those who won't, but it hasn't shown up much yet, Narvaez being an exception.
  4. If Campbell is not a buzz killing poor hitter, then who is ? Kristian, unfortunately, is an indictment of the Red Sox MiLB and evaluation system to think he was ready for MLB. When he started out so well, it was see the ball/hit the ball reactions which got turned off by opponents figuring him out , and Kristian thinking too much Watch the strikes he takes and the weak swings he makes on hittable pitches. I do think he needs more work at the AAA level regardless of his contract.
  5. Red Sox hitters finally met their match in Soriano and may pull this game into the W column, saving Cora's job, lol
  6. I do think you are very correct in assessing the contractual situations, so it may be , stay the course, these are my guys. But I also think there needs to be a major message sent somewhere that you cannot be an ass clown player/pitcher and bury us every day. That usually implies a ceremonial firing, pretending to assign blame and take action.
  7. Giolito is a sack of crap. Game over before retiring 1 Angel. I'm going out on the limb and saying the chance that this is Cora's last game ( deserved or not) just crossed the 53.2% barrier. You cannot get swept at home by the Angels.
  8. How is any team "better" than its record? The Tuna was correct. I do get what you mean but teams that look good on advanced metric printouts are paper tigers. Cora's postgame to me was very telling. He implies no one has command of the clubhouse or field mentality , including him. His discouragement at not getting better is palpable
  9. That may have been the key to it all. But someone was determined to get Devers off 3B , thinking they had a competent 2Bman. As Gomer Pyle said, "Surprise ! Surprise!"
  10. What the heck, may as well win one every 3 days . The good news is that it will be over early. Prevent the angelic sweep. Simply cannot understand this team's travails at Fenway. Without Bregman, no big pull hitters from the right side. Only a genius would build a LH hitting team to play there.
  11. If any other teams website is willing to pay FA money , then call my agent Scott....
  12. Not really a cheap tactic. Would you swap Duran for Anthony heads up right now, if that was the only choice? To unload Story and Masa in one move would provide mucho dinero for FA's this winter. And to be sure, I am a fan of Duran unlike many of his teammates
  13. The reality is that at the end of the game when the W or L gets posted, it is the players, their situational play and thinking that determines the outcome. Execution of fundamentals or great highlight plays , it is up to the players to understand their roles and abilities . Does it occur to most of us that the talent and skill level of the current 26 man roster is a hodgepod of MLB wannabes. not All Stars ? 4 or 5 of each night's lineup since Bregman went out, just as a demarcation point, are bench type players at best . Now we may have a great bench , but not a competitive team. Sorry, but the only reason to play the game at MLB level is to win more than every other team. This bunch cannot do that.
  14. Since I put the chances of making the playoffs at about 3.2% , go ahead and fire Cora now, if that is to be the outcome. As many note, Cora doesn't pitch nor hit , and it does appear the analytics dictate a lot of tactics by Boston. Lastly the training and expectations through the minors system for the Red Sox are flawed. The young guys are doing what they did to get to the 26 man roster. They are too stupid to know the difference, and then get rewarded handsomely for being there with almost no production.
  15. Good example, but that overall attitude that everything is just too difficult for day care kids to grasp is showing up in many professions.
  16. Regarding hitting, if the Red Sox organizational hitting strategy is launch angle and swing hard at anything close, then you have the team we see daily. It is a flawed concept after the 2nd time through the lineup for sure. Losing 17 one run games is proof and leading the MLB in K's with RISP is proof. But playing 3 rookies and a couple AAAA'ers doesn't help much either. Splendid Splinter is right--these children may have trouble reaching 78-84. They actually would have to win at a higher rate than their current record to do so.
  17. Forget Kelly, he only "allowed" the 1 run. Some here keep saying it is the pitching. IT IS NOT---It is the failure to hit or generate productive outs, put the pelota in play. These guys are truly a mess. The odds to turn this season around get worse with each loss. 99 to go and slip sliding away. Granted one thing---This is not the roster nor lineup Breslow nor Cora expected to be playing games with.
  18. Red Sox reminding me of the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard, no heart, no courage to win
  19. Zack Kelly, you must be kidding ? Can't pitch, can't field, Can't win
  20. Abreu becoming a predictable K, 92 Tonight) with his looping upswing. Cannot hit a medium FB in center of plate because he is swinging under it. It is so easy for opponents to neuter Devers because there is little behind him
  21. Campbell doesn't even know when to K vs the DP route. he also doesn't run hard on routine ground balls, including DPs. He is a PoS
  22. I believe you are correct, Senor. No evidence of urgency to get better. Why should they, there is still 99 games to go, plus this one to finish. Just one swing of the bat !!!
  23. I realize that we have no choice but to wait for Campbell to become a Big League ballplayer ( if/when) but in the meantime, he is getting paid , so he can be critiqued. Right now he is useless. Even his 1 hit was just a big bounce over the 1Bman who was holding the runner. The flyout just another medium deep out doing nothing
  24. Defense remains atrocious . Not just errors but as mentioned many times, plays not made. Outs not picked up when available. Pitchers must be laughing at the guys behind them.
  25. Great, Gonzalez avoids the DP too. Devers and Romy take one for the team
