  1. 3 games, 23 innings so far, 2 runs. Do we need advanced metrics to call it a slump ? That's in addition to wasting some good starts by Giolito and Crochet .
  2. How does Toro get hit in the thigh with a pitch he allegedly swings at for a K ? Then Duran doubles right behind him all for nothing
  3. Crochet with 13 starts, 1.99 ERA, 1.06 WHIP but a 4-3 record, and trailing 1-0 today in Milwaukee. He should be angry .
  4. There really has to be some backstory on Story. No veteran MLB'er could possibly be going as bad as he is. He's becoming a mental case . If he was hitting into hard outs it would be one thing but pop-ups and Ks show deteriorating skillsets
  5. The 2 soft bouncers to 2Bman today didn't appear to be jammed in on his hands, so as noted, he is tentative swinging and not aggressive. He may think he is getting fooled all the time by breaking balls. Yes, Mayer will soon see his weak spots exploited. Rafaela says, I don't care, I'm swinging it but without much luck.
  6. Mayer showing that maybe he is the hitter his stats indicated, Campbell showing he can't get around on the fastball and Story in a world of his own with a upper .500 OPS
  7. Technically, it is possible that this game is over. Realistically, the Red Sox have 24 more outs to disprove that technical possibility. After all, the Brewers are not the Orioles. What.. you say the Brewers are better ? Then we are in trouble
  8. Does Crochet not know the book on him is currently---First pitch big swings. ? It's a clear trend as are the HRs that result.
  9. That will remain technically true until mid September most likely . But absent a couple of 10 game win streaks between now and then, this team is digging a deep hole at the 1/3rd mark. Many factors which I may list later...or not since they are all in clear sight, even to the Eye-Testers.
  10. I agree with you on this assessment. Of all the people who should be grabbing a 1Bman mitt, it should be Anthony . Give him the practice time in Worcester that Campbell is getting now. One , Anthony's fielding upside is apparently not huge, like many Fenway LF'ers. Two, I don't know yet if Campbell will be an asset during the remainder of this season . His ability to adapt his hitting to how he's being pitched will determine that. The need for a power hitting 1Bman is clear and present. Yes, Casas will likely be back at ST and be evaluated, but I think Breslow would move him on to another team at the first request. Anthony should be considered at 1B . As others have said, all of this is so much talk as long as the starters can't finish 5 innings and the relievers are arm weary and of limited effectiveness in late May. Given Casas' and now Bregman's injuries , look at the lineup. Heavy reliance on rookies and platoon guys. Shout out to Narvaez for singlehandedly curing one deficiency by himself.
  11. While anything is possible , I do think the ship sailed for the Red Sox playoff chances while they were waiting at North Station . How can that be when it is still May and over 100 games remain ? The math to get to 90 wins gets a little harder each day they do not win. This is a damaged team via injuries and woeful performances from former injured players ( Story) , shaky bullpen behind starters who have trouble going 5 full innings. The trends lineup for another middling season.
  12. On the positive Marcelo Mayer got over his stage fright and picked up his first and second MLB hit. He will now be in Baseball Reference book forever.
  13. About the amount of time it will take Casas to come back from the knee pop
  14. Good to see the Sox worked on that run differential thing in bottom 9 and tightened it up. Why some think the RD is an indicator of a good offense baffles me when a home team scores 2 runs in 18 innings of play , both coming in bottom 9's
  15. Getting split at home vs one of the worst performing teams in MLB is not the best outcome for Red Sox Quickly making this another patchwork , hit and mostly miss season of wild pitches, wild swings and wild throws all over the field. Wild Thing, you make me puke
  16. Kelly then produces another episode of Little League baseball featuring Cedanne and his new buddy, Marcelo's throwing arm. These guys are untrained assclowns
  17. After watching Rafaela chase another ball in the dirt for a K, we get to see Zach Kelly, straight in from Polar Park serve up a lead off walk. This is thrilling baseball
  18. Wake up---that is a AAA/AAAA infield behind your pitching . Don't be surprised when they don't make routine plays
  19. Just thinking ahead a little, Sox will be at 27 or 28 wins after today ( there's always a 1% chance they win this one) , leaving 107 to go. Assume it takes 90 wins to make a WC slot . The Sox would need to go 62 or 63 and 45/44 to reach 90 W's That is a .589 win pace. There are only 6 teams in MLB currently at .589 or better ( NYY, LAD, Cubs, Tigers, Mets, Phillies) . Dream on, this season's shot at the playoffs is rapidly dying right here in late May .
  20. Mayer's effort for a first HR falls just short into the O's glove. Carlson of the Orioles hits his about 10' farther and circles the bases . If Boston is not the single most frustrating team at home, and maybe on the road, I don't know who is. Now scored 1 run in 14 innings and that came in the 9th of a 1 run loss.
  21. If ever the Sox needed an early blow out, like the late one Friday , today is it. Must win this series at Fenway against a losing team. The guys may be tired after 2 yesterday but Buehler needs to stay quiet and dominant while the runs flow for Boston.
  22. It's ironic enough just having Toro on the team, much less his propensity to solo HR's
  23. Face reality , Moon. It's a cold dark place way under the Cf grandstands. Joking, but Bregman will miss 45 games +- and will need another 10 games to catch up to MLB speed.
