  1. What if it turns out that Crochet is actually good ? He shows the young guys what Cowboy Up means through 7. They better get the BP a few extras though . I would hate to see this one get blown.
  2. Great hit by Story, about 3" short of a salami. Crochet gets support in first inning, now needs to bank it.
  3. Another 14 K game, that is now 28 for the 2 games in Atlanta , but a split is a split, right ? I would like to know if the K phenomena is actually the result of an organizational hitting approach that is being taught and reinforced. ? This is not normal professional baseball . Launch angle and balls up in the air only work when you have more than warning track power Campbell is totally lost at this point. Mayer is coming out of the dugout with the now familiar, down 0-2 in the count. Rafaela is still a big chaser. If this is the result of how the Sox teach hitting, then all of the supporters of this theory need to go asap.
  4. I agree with you about get all the rookies, including Anthony , out on the field and at bat. Better to suffer the growing pains now, . At least some professional evaluators can get a clue whether they really are the answer or not . To have to trash a season at the 1/3rd point is a harsh statement on the degree of preparation by the FO and field coaches at all levels
  5. You can blame it on injuries , and Bregman's was a backbreaker for this lineup, you can say Casas didn't matter because he was not hitting nor fielding well enough, you can say turmoil between Cora/Breslow/Devers put a cloud over the clubhouse ( no proof that any player cares) . Any of the above do not well explain Bello and Houck's regression, Crawford about to miss 1/2 a season with the same injury as existed last year , The team doesn't hit well to support good pitching by Crochet. Nor explain a BP that is working on overdrive. in April/May. You are correct FredLynn, it will be a long depressing summer of baseball in Boston.
  6. I think we do overlook something Merloni pointed out and has been mentioned in some TalkSox threads. There is a rookie at Catcher, AAAA Bench player Toro at 1B, rookie at 2B, rookie at 3B, defensive specialist in CF ( starting to hit a little, but otherwise K machine ), a big time slump at SS . A $30 million DH . What the heck did you expect ?
  7. It would be interesting to see the correlation of Duran on base % and Devers BA + RBIs when Duran reaches 1 or more times . Absent those 2 players , not much happens until Abreu hits a mostly solo HR.
  8. Here's how you lose, a little bit at a time, an error here, a bad pitch there, fail to put away potential outs , give up 2 out HRs. Like a savings account no one deposit is so big, but over time they add up. Buehler did not have the big 2 out pitch today.
  9. Even with the win last night , the Sox had 14K's , guess they don't matter . Especially when your own pitching is shutdown after the 1st. Today we have 6 after 4 innings . The combined game +1/2 is showing a K rate of just over 50% . At the end of the day, is it coaching/training through the entire system over multiple years at all levels or is it truly just individual inability to master MLB level skills ?
  10. Excellent win and much needed last night, especially for Trevor Story. You can't win 10 in a row if you don't win #2, so let's get this one done.
  11. I have to go and help a friend fly a plane that he built. 50-50 this is my last Red Sox game, so SS and Jad, try to bring it home a winner.
  12. I do not think his exaggerated stance ( wide open/leg kick) gets him to the hitting zone quick enough . It may work for Devers and Abreu but not for Trevor. But that would take a hitting coach to analyze
  13. How can the scorer put that error on Abreu.?? The error was Narvaez not being able to catch it or knock it down in front of himself to get to a tag. If the throw skipped off the edge of the infield cut and the dirt arc in front of home, then it's not anybody's error except the Atlanta ground crew.
  14. Story simply cannot turn on anything in mid 90's, cannot resist chasing a slider away , cannot do anything with amid 80's change up ( fouled off). He literally cannot hit anything meaningful.
  15. Abreu throws out Acuna at home by 6' or more, Narvaez cannot handle the bounce and and the run is good. The errors/mistakes are so fundamental that there really can be no excuse for this team's constant hole digging errors. Now Giolito is over 25 pitches, down a run, 2 on, with one out. Great F'ing start to the next loss
  16. Another exciting top of 1st from the programmatic Red Sox. Pop out, bloop hit, walk, 2 on 1 out, followed by 2 bad K's chasing. These dudes are nothing if not predictable
  17. Liam Hendriks to the 15 day IL with hip inflammation. Burdi back up. That should give enough time to see if Burdi can be effective , and to consider Hendriks longer term run this season. 15 days should give the FO time to see if any team wants to take a chance on Liam , prior to a DFA consideration in mid June .
  18. Agreed, I think the FO is uncertain and the Devers bungling/miscommunication seems to have shutdown any significant discussion of the state of the team by Breslow. Cora is carrying the load with the press it seems
  19. The Braves did split a DH yesterday , so their BP may be dragging a little. Ours is after another tough day off, but travelling .
  20. I also fail to grasp why this team chose to extend so early on players who aren't even shaving yet. I get the macroeconomics of tying up the talent but they are already tied up for multiple years.
  21. A combo of hacks and rookies covering the infield. I am ready to put this back on Diva Devers setting the tone here.
  22. I swear, Nick, if he actually says that again, I will find him in Atlanta and stuff a plaintain in his mouth
  23. Now 6-15 in 1 run games , another meaningless blown save ? Leads MLB in extra inning games. Very impressive , AC and CB
