  1. Beni K's without one pitch actually being in the strike zone box. All on the edge, and he's back to the bench
  2. Not much will until they get desperate, which hasn't happened yet because, it's early.
  3. No worries, top of the lineup due up so sure to score a couple, right ? I guess after Beni's leadoff walk, Mookie wasn't content to make his own Mendoza line busting out, he had to make a DP to show Beni what's what here.
  4. Here is a cure equivalent to taking an aspirin for cancer. Just go to the equivalent date in 2018 and read the game thread there instead of this years. It won't help thier current record but you'll feel a lot better.
  5. 3 hitters in the Sox lineup below .200, plus Lin who has not yet had an opportunity. Hope he breaks up the Rays no hitter
  6. Nice slider right in the LH hitters sweet spot. Wouldn't be a starter without an HR and trailing in the game.
  7. You must say the HP umpire is very consistently inconsistent on his ball-strike calls
  8. Then 21 pitches, but now 2 outs , 2 on. Now Erod's ready to settle the business, and he nails it leaving the 2 on.
  9. Maybe the time is right for DD to relook at about half his roster and consider some radical decisions that go well beyond DFA'ing Swihart. It would seem to be getting clear that Pedroia, at best, is a parttimer and at worst a total playing loss. This requires a full time back up or actual replacement at 2B. Regrettably Brock Holt is back in the odd injury category, but unable to play, and in his limited exposure so far in 2019 was the least productive hitter . Nunez is an older, marginal backup who cannot make a real difference. These 3 guys are right now an anchor dragging bottom. Only Holt holds some value but what would anyone give you for him. Another utility player ? Could the Sox go with Tzu Wei Lin as the primary 2B man for this year while Chavis works on his game ? JBJr continues to be a dilemma and virtual auto-out. He has shown he can hit at times, but there must be some reason he cannot sustain it, falling back into bad habits and rolling grounders to the right side. He is not a cheap young player anymore . He could have some value , preferably in the NL . Devers and Betts simply need to wake up and play their way out of their current unproductive situations. The time to look at Mookie's future is the 2019-2020 off season and if there no reason to expect him to resign, let the trade talks flow then. Steve Pearce has little value to anyone else at his age and current price. Decent glove and insurance for Moreland, who has been injury prone. But Sam Travis could likely be a cheap filler, if another team wants the Pearce who came to the Sox last summer, and helped considerably. The catching dilemma needs solving in an affirmative way next winter. The answer likely does not include Leon at all. Vaz is either their guy or move both of them . Pitching, in general, just acknowledge that there are 2 guys in the pen who are reliable (Barnes/Brasier) and a lot of filler material , who despite a nice season beginning, are now showing their true abilities, which are limited. (Hembree/Workman/Thornburg/Brewer) . Brian Johnson and Steven Wright aren't the answer . Velasquez is what he is, another filler with some ability as a spot pitcher. The starting rotation next year will be Price/Sale/Rodriguez plus at least one guy from Pawsox (Hernandez ), and one signing to replace Porcello . The talk about the "cliff" , real or not, may have already been precipitated by the really poor play during this weak start. It wouldn't be popular but maybe DD and the Sox need to see what a reset truly looks like, if they are not in contention by mid to late June.
  10. I thought this "little person" was an untouchable asset forever more. So surprised anyone would call him out.
  11. Brett Gardner--- you must be kidding. Once again, a reliever (Workman) who cannot throw a strike will kill you . One who cannot nail Gardner will also kill you. Don't fail to note that the bats quit again after the 2 HR's.
  12. Meanwhile Eovaldi gets a shutdown quick inning , extending his stay into the 6th with a (so far ) quality start. need a few more runs now
  13. He has no clue Rico. Totally lost. As are a few others holding a bat this season. The team could carry maybe 2 guys at .200 level, but not 4 or 5 . Recheck these fellows at the end of May to give change a chance.
  14. Due to the money involved, Pedey has no incentive to retire. He can keep earning $10 million a year by trying to rehab the knee. The Sox need to come to him with a deal of some sort that would be worth his retiring. Maybe a well paid job in the organization with a lifetime contract.
  15. Pearce, like Bradley , earns it with his glove.
  16. When was the last time the high FB out of the zone worked with 2 strikes on the hitter ? Sometime in 2018 I'm sure. Anyway, Nate works out of a jam keeping the lead. Looks like a 5 inning night based on pitch count.
  17. Sore left knee. Pedey is cooked
  18. Pearce parlayed a good second half and a great playoff run into a $6+million retirement plan. If you combine him and Pedroia, you get not much; a BA of .191. Now Pedey needs to take the rest of the night (season ??) off
  19. Mookie's march to the Mendoza line continues unabated.
  20. EO gets his ERA below the magical 7.50 line. With a 3-0 lead, Cora needs to play this one out as if it were a game 7 to get a win.
  21. A really good rotation would pencil the current Porcello in as a #4 or #5 starter, and he would deliver the bullpen saving innings if not the low scoring wins. Very hard guy to figure out. My guess is that he has certain personality disorders that cause his mind to overrule his talent. Ever see him smile ?
  22. Honestly, Erasmo cannot be allowed to take a shower before getting on the Greyhound from NYC to Pawtucket or better yet DFA land to open another roster slot.
  23. I really hope Erasmo enjoys being in a big league uniform for 24 hours. What a f***ed up fatboy.
  24. Maybe they ought to do a "16" in honor of A. Lincoln, and then something for the Dominicans who out number the American blacks who don't play much baseball anymore.
  25. Leon's first throw is a beaut, not to mention Nunez's alligator arm effort to catch it. So Judge steals second and winds up on third. Look out he doesn't steal home on Sale.
