  1. Well, they making Buehler throw a lot of pitches, so there is that
  2. I do wonder about Moreland hittin #3 instead of say, Devers
  3. Far more concerned that the correct Porcello shows up , than any lineup modifications. Hoping the Red Sox timely , 2 out hitting remains and they get the lead again. I can see Rick P. on a short leash , so that a shift to a LH (Rodriguez or even Sale for an inning) could stop a rally or burn Robert's bench as he is prone to do.
  4. I have Porcello down for a 3 run HR, for the Sox , not against.
  5. All year long the Red Sox have totally dominated when the bottom 4 in the lineup were able to contribute. Nunez, Holt, Vazquez, Leon, Kinsler (since July) JBJr, Swihart turned games around when they got on base in front of Betts, beni, JDM, Bogie. It doesn't take much, but a two out oppo field single by Christian was the catalyst for a big win. Nunez's 3 run shot didn't technically win the Game 1 but it crushed any hopes for an LA comeback. Holt pounding the Yankees in a 16-1 rout, etc.
  6. Supports the theory as to having shutdown pitchers used in high leverage situations regardless of inning, instead of waiting until the 9th to run in a closer. Haven't seen too much of Kenley J yet, have we ??
  7. Noticed that move by JBJr and you are certainly correct. Smart beats "heroic" failures most times.
  8. Any chance of Sale in for one inning of relief for Porcello ( Game 3), similar to Eovaldi , and still go in Game 5 ? I'm noticing our 8th inning BP seems to be relying on starters and is working out fine. EO has been a horse to ride so far. I do think the weather will have a positive effect on both teams, especially pitchers. It will feel like Spring Training but the intensity will be there. Much more likely to see some HR's, Rick P. better keep his sinker going.
  9. 14-2 in WS games in this century, unbelievable. If they sweep this one, it will be better than the previous 2 WS sweeps . The best team in baseball is rolling. Now for warm weather (80's) in LA this weekend. Those warning track outs and wall balls will fly further. Pay attention Porcello.
  10. Smoltz is such a NL/Dodger fan, he's bragging on their loads of talent. most of which sat on Robert's bench
  11. Machado's outs remind me of JDM's outs. Somebody will overpay, but get a real talented jerk
  12. This is one of the spots where Kimbrel can also earn some FA money for himself, and get the Sox up 2-0.
  13. If EO gets a win as a starter after 2 perfect relief jobs, he's my MVP. Let's see if CK is ready again tonight to throw strikes. But first, a word from our run scorers, maybe 2 or 3 for good measure.
  14. EO needs 2 more in a row, so Machado leads off the 9th with nobody on.
  15. If Moreland keeps pulling off the plate , he will never hit an outside corner pitch. And Beni needs to recognize how they are working him and let it go down and away
  16. You could be wondering why Eovaldi is getting ready to come in for back to backs. Pretty clear Cora is managing the game that's going on , not Game 4 down the road. Using the proven guy to give the Red Sox the best chance to nail down Game 2./
  17. It would appeaar someone took him aside and suggested that he pitch, not just throw the ball through the backstop. An incredible difference as he is pitching under control with a killer spinner.
  18. Glad to see the 2 strike, high ball get an out. Keep rolling, Joe
  19. Trusting that the Sox can win it all in the next week or so, does it take much pressure off ownership/GM to spend big to win again next year? The starting lineup will still be set at most positions, except 2B which depend greatly on Pedroia's knee issues. They should be able to win 90+ with the existing staff. Eovaldi and Pom were not big factors in the 108 wins, and Sale only pitched for about 4 months. One full year of Chris can fill the gap. If the FO wants to get a start on a reset for 2020 when some of the important guys start going FA, then it could happen that the money is tighter in 2019 and bidding reopened in 2020. Mid-season acquisitions by trade can be made when you see where you are in the standings in late July, same as this year. On the other hand, a somehow blown Series could change the direction. So hard to get there in the AL, I hope they win it all now, and let the winter and payroll budget be for hot stove time.
  20. A little bit out of left field, but when the Sox win the Series, they will have gone the full 162 plus 3 rounds of playoffs and never lost 60 games. Stepping on throats is what tonight is all about, go to warm LA up 2-0, with Porcello and Eovaldi ready to deal.
  21. Swihart ? Not been asked to do much and has responded well
  22. Roberts caused the butterfly effect that led from 0-3 and down in the score to 4-3, with the most complete humiliation of the NYY'ers to date. May there be more
  23. So hard to figure whether Sale will be highly effective with so much missed time since August. Probably be good to get 5 to 6 innings with 2 runs and no walks . Or he could pitch a 9 inning shutout and nail it down.
  24. Pedroia's influence on the other players is an interesting premise. Although he has been physically present I expect his clubhouse presence is much quieter. Another unwritten rule in most sports is that , if you aren't playing , don't be yapping at those who are. It goes with, you can't make the club sitting in the tub. Another factor that differentiates Farrell's tenure from Cora's new insights, motivational techniques and communication with younger guys is that players in 2016/17 may have thought that Farrell was on his way out , either for his health condition or longevity in the role. Also 10 years+ older than Cora. JF may have been tuned out by some of the guys. Also true of some of the coaching staff. Note that Chili Davis got bumped after only one season with the Cubs . What did Theo and Maddon see happening with him? Obviously, not enough hitting. Shades of 2017 in Boston. JDM would make any hitting coach look good though.
  25. I agree with the Beni/JBJr rotation to make room for JDM. That is also supported by the LH pitching to be faced with LA. Not an issue in the first 2 at Fenway , so the result of those games may affect decision making as well as who is hot and who is not. Jackie's hits were very big and glad he got some recognition, but overall, you do not play him for offensive production., especially against LH'ers.
