  1. Reyes takes 2 center cut 84+- pitches for strikes, then reaches out on a slower breaking ball for the pop-up. What are these guys thinking at the plate? Probably wasn't.
  2. Sherriff reinvents the LOOGIE pitcher, and does his job. Kluber coming, hold your ticket stubs
  3. Here's the game with TB bases loaded and Whitlock at 100 pitches. Needs the DP or forget it
  4. I believe that if Mayer shows success at Portland, he will get to WooSox in August and come to Fenway in September for a "cup of coffee". Then when he shows up at Ft. Myers next ST he will be considered the top option at SS. Tough road to make in one year but clearly the game plan , as opposed to retaining Bogaerts. Story??..... sounds like a 2Bman to me since the Sox are missing one of those also. Zach Neto of LAA did go from AA straight to Anaheim early this year and is handling it , not great/not bad. So it can be done
  5. I see NESN continues to prefer running PSA's ( for worthy causes) during the game to having O'B/Youk etc. have to talk about the Sox. But at the inning end they cut they volunteers off and go to some equally awful commercials.
  6. Whitlock personally holds McGuire liable for those hits
  7. Asswipe adds to his error total with a 2 so far in 3 innings
  8. Max, I'll be with you freakin' out the whole way unless anything else comes up, that would be more interesting
  9. So for the remaining 4 months of the season Chris Sale unfortunately will fall into the category of take some time off, rehab, don't know if it will hold up, on again/off again , maybe available, maybe not. A real blow to Chris and the team.
  10. These 4 games are certainly important in trying to see which direction the Sox may progress. Anything from 2-2 to 3-1 to even 4-0 over the Rays would be a small to large success. 1-3 or another 0-4 sweep would tell us to forget about competing in this division. The pending loss, even for 15 days of Sale, with question marks even when returned is a body blow to this group. He was back to being a formidable pitcher and the Red Sox's only Stopper . You can say that Kluber or Pivetta is Sale's replacement for the moment. Good luck with that.
  11. Sale has to leave the mound with an unspecified condition. . This may be a bad deal
  12. Was checking to see who had the hits for the Red Sox and noticed that Yoshi had drawn a walk.
  13. Cinci lights the fuse on Sale and gets a score. Time to respond or maybe later innings. Who knows ?
  14. Casas will wear pitchers out with his 8-9-10 pitch AB's . This may help get Greene out of the game which could help.
  15. 6 outs, 6 K's. It works both ways. Sale failed to K the Red side in the 2nd, only getting 2 , opening the possibility that one of the Sox will hit a fair ball .
  16. Chris Stopper Sale K's every Red who came up in the first, except for the leadoff jamjob bloop single . Now the Sox hitters can get a few runs across . Sox win often when scoring first, except a couple nights ago.
  17. Just trying to be agreeable and learn some baseball from our crew of experts . I would try to be optimistic but the current circumstances of the Sox are suppressing that urge. I'm still trying to review how the 2018 team managed to lose 54 games ; lousy pitching; poor defense; unsettled roster; no CLUTCH hitting, etc. Let's all enjoy tonight's win behind the resurgent Chris Freakin' Sale
  18. I haven't seen that book yet, but will search it out. I wish Steven was a contributor here because he does have the driest, wryest sense of humor since Carlin.
  19. I promise all comments, if any, will be straightforward, fact based observations of the happenings on the Fenway grass and dirt. Attempts at convoluted humor, irony, misdirection , hyperbole, caustic sarcasm will be banned. Going to be a quiet night. Chris Sale again gets the job as the Stopper to halt this mini 3 game skid, and chill the pending home field sweep by the Reds. Chris should rise to the occasion and prevail , with good defense and timely hitting up and down the lineup.
  20. There is also a possibility that Arroyo should be DFA'ed to see if he brings any offers from other teams . Christian, like the other Christian Vazquez, has had adequate time to show his stuff and I don't see him being any key to the future in Boston. Not that Chang is either . Enmanuel still has a ways to go and may need more time in AAA, but he will be cheap and under control for multiple years. LOL, Mondesi is not even on any radar as a possible contributor this year or likely in the future.
  21. Here's a thought on Duvall's return, which will be good to see. He put up unusually high stats in his total of 8 games (36 PAs) , and created buzz that Bloom had found a power hitting OF'er . Someone along with Turner to bat around Devers , getting Raffy some better pitches. Adam is effectively back at ST in terms of mid-season game readiness and speed. His wrist may be medically healed but will Duvall favor it, be reluctant for awhile to go hard or coming in firing away. I think he will need 8-10 games to get up to speed , say mid-late June . Those AB's will come from DH ( Turner to 1B) and Duran, maybe a turn in LF resting Yoshi . At that point , the team will have a sense as to how good Duvall may be going forward, and who needs to demoted, DFA'ed or IL'ed. The short term question is that if Arroyo and Duvall return close to each other , there will need to be 2 slots opened on the 26. Who is most likely to go.....for Duvall , is it Tapia, Refsnyder, or Duran, who has options ? For Arroyo, is it Valdez who does have options. Still too early to outguess the trade deadline opportunities , but at least the 40 man roster this year does contain a small surplus of players who have shown some MLB skills for Boston . Looking towards July to reshape what should have been done December-March
  22. Nice , warning track power for another 1 run loss.
  23. Interesting and successful use of Pivetta. That is encouraging . Now for some hits and at least 1 run
  24. What I said was that you may want to ignore my commentary for the reason that you may not find it relevant to your view of the action.
  25. OF course the correct defensive alignment was to go for the DP. That was basic . I honestly try to stay out of the personal BS that flies all over this site but I can't help some of you who take following this team quite so seriously. If you can't get some amusement out of them, what's the point. They are entertainment at best. They make millions in many cases for playing a kid's game . I rarely comment on Cora because I don't find him particularly interesting . I hope the team finds a comeback way somewhere in this mess of an ill composed team, which I lay on Bloom primarily
