  1. Chaim is also very unlucky and can't catch a break . This makes his judgement mistakes on players really bad
  2. Poor AB by Yoshida. Passed on 2 center cuts, one at 3-1. What could he have been looking for >
  3. Been unavoidably detained this week but really enjoyed reading the game thread on the Cora-Kluber Guardians game. Lots of potential reality on the FO vs Cora behind the scenes. Alex may well be showing the FO up, and the team knows it, so plays sloppily. Nice that the Sox and whitlock are competing well so far tonight. I think if this season doesn't result in any notable improvement, there will be changes made by ownership. To me, it all started with a wishin-hopin off season that has backfired spectatcularly on Bloom, the latest being goodbye for 2023 to Sale. At very best it would mid -September before he could pitch again. Chris Frail---remember him well.
  4. .182/.479 = McGuire's last 15 games. His bat, among others got left in the wood pile
  5. Originally Cubs, then the Jays, but now he is all ours. But he's young, only 33 and that number exceeds the number of MLB games he has appeared in, 31. The truth is that no one knows where Bloom discovers these young gems with big upside.
  6. Der-moody follows the game plan to a T by getting beat in the first inning for an HR. He did get a DP, however, so it wasn't a 3 run jack
  7. Now, Fred ? He's been there most of the year with only a few peeks above the line for a quick but not deep breath. Illinois is more precise on it but I was trying to imply some positive notes on Casas, never again !
  8. Thanks for reposting the OTM quote. You should put it in the Fire Bloom thread too. It rings true, even if slightly hyperbolic
  9. Combine the SS/CF/2B risks ( Kike; injury prone Arroyo; AAAA Valdez ; Chang; Reyes; Duran's reality) with a virtual rookie at catcher ( Wong) and the core of your team is weak , not awesome not amazing Chaim. Which one of those 7 players has large upside ? Maybe Wong , less likely Duran ?? Then put another rookie (Casas) at 1B , a power hitting position and watch him walk or K . Then have Devers have a sort of confusing first half at the plate, highs(rbi's) lows (BA/OPS). The .500+- record while in the AL East is probably an achievement . But the roster assembled by Bloom was suspect from hot stove through May , injuries( Duvall/Sale) and failure to recover more quickly ( Story) made it all the more glaring. With 100 games to go , the Sox still have a puncher's chance at a WC 3 position which is the only amazing thing about this team right now.
  10. Sox tied for 4th in MLB for runs scored. Tied with Arizona. This may be one of the most useless stats around sort of like a pitcher's W-L record. It is an indicator but not a determinate of high success.
  11. Arroyo has wall power, but not quite over the wall.
  12. Another umpiring masterpiece, but helping us. Wong can't see the 101
  13. Murphy and Wong having fun playing catch. Sure hope this 2 out flub doesn't lead to a run
  14. Still concerned with the hitting. Even the winning rally last night ( 4 runs) relied on 2 walks and a sac fly. But that was one inning out of now 17 vs the Guardians. Otherwise 5 scattered singles, Wong's double and 3 walks, 2 errors create 2 runs. 1 for 11 RISP... Turner looks very bat tired
  15. Can we make that happen in 2024 ? it doesn't matter much to me but I think the team already exercised Cora's option for '24 , so it looks like 2025 is the next best shot.
  16. 7.71 at WooSox, but 0.00 in MLB. Baseball is an ironic game.
  17. Watching Casa-Hernandez-Duran K back to back to back is just one of the treats Boston baseball delivers.
  18. Just back , driving in from Las Vegas and I notice that Crawford has some unearned runs against him. Then I see that the Sox have less errors than innings played, so there's that. At some point the defense reflects the degree of focus and anticipation by the fielders. Not sure how you overcome that. Sort of like giving up 2 out RBI hits, in the form of back to back doubles
  19. Unreal how the Sox cannot get the top of the lineup on the scoreboard early, but the pitchers and fielders help the oppo do so frequently. Makes the comeback wins more fun, I guess. Actually it sucks
  20. 2 out double and a slip by Verdugo puts the Sox down once AGAIN right from the get-go.
  21. What would Bloom do if JH gave him an unlimited checkbook, and said get me another championship ? I hope it wouldn't be to sign the DeGroms, Riachards, Klubers of the pitching world.
  22. Seen enough, enjoy the rest of the comeback, guys. Kluber is not only ineffective but unlucky , a terrible combination
  23. Wong is probably saving 3 outs a game by himself.
  24. The comments about Yoshi hitting #2 , maybe Devers at 3 or 4 are accurate. If #2 is your best hitter, following an effective leadoff hitter , now Dugo, it has to be Yoshida . Devers has a long climb out of his .243/.788 slump ( .193/.638 last 15 games)
  25. If you like his waistline now, wait until next year . More seriously , Devers body type does not bode well for the long term as an athlete unless he can apply enormous discipline and conditioning ethic. Oh well
