  1. Nevers wasn't going to beat that one to the bag but he did take a break in his stride about halfway there. Just not seeing Raffy as a leader of this team.
  2. Hah, Rizzo had a flashback to his baserunning training when a young Sox trainee
  3. Have any of our esteemed LH hitters pulled a deep fly to straight away or far right in this series ? I know Devers did record 2 HR's but not sure on the tracks
  4. Bello is beginning to look like a pitcher with a clue as to how to work the batters. Very encouraging if he can get 6-7 innings. Hitters need to support him.
  5. Sloppy Devers further buries the defensive emphasis Cora insists is there
  6. 7-8-9 batting slots are back to the sub-Mendoza results of the early season. The games change quickly when the lower end of the order contributes
  7. Well, if he wasn't so slow the catches wouldn't be so dramatic...LOL. That was an important play to make with 2 outs
  8. Yoshida saves a run with a tough running / sliding catch
  9. Can't decide if hitting Duran with the ball by Dugo saved a DP or cost a chance for a Yankee error
  10. This team is jinxed in very odd ways. Always solo HR's ( better than nothing, but...), ball bouncing every which way, mostly playing from behind
  11. Same old, same old---leadoff hustle double by Duran, Dugo Yoshi and Kevers fail to score him
  12. Houck, Crawford and Whitlock combined with Bello, and a couple professional mid career pitchers like a healthy Paxton type could become a winning rotation but it could take 1 or 2 more seasons to know that definitively. Kluber is beyond dead to the Sox, and Sale will remain on the roster until the final paycheck cashes but is useless in terms of future production predictions. One question is, who is the coach or mentor who can get the 4 younger guys over the hump from raw talent to a skilled pitcher, not just a thrower ?
  13. Bloom's salary/contract probably is guaranteed for 5 years but that does not mean he will get the full time to implement whatever direction he is following. I do think that Chaim and Cora both will be held to account if the team , while regaining some of its intended position starters ( Duvall/Story) , falters further and finishes sub.500 or last in AL East. The PR-social media din will be loud and even the cool , calm JH's of the business world do notice. They want to look like they are responsive to the wild hordes of fan-atics.
  14. It wasn't his goal, it is his result though
  15. It only works out if the Red Sox win today and by 1 run.
  16. A sweep of this Yankee series, on the road, would have sent a strong message that the Sox were ready to compete . It may have been an unlikely goal but now they need to scramble for the series win. This win 1, lose 1, wash and repeat is not good. I believe they already had the team meeting to self criticize and remotivate. The next one will be JH and TL discussing Bloom's future plans for himself and Cora. But maybe only after a reset at the trade deadline, when an all new lineup of players and pitchers reignite faith in the 5 year plan, if it exists
  17. I truly thought this was a .500+- team from off season hot stove right until today and they keep proving it. The roster construction was a lot of wishin' and hopin'. Bloom is terribly unlucky as well as being far too reliant on previously injured guys and marginal older players getting all hot and bothered at the same time. The Yalie has got some problems, most of which were predictable back in mid February.
  18. Turner has been studying JDM videos. He could have been walked already to let Devers bat
  19. Granted that Rafael Devers is the ONE RS franchise player right now, and will be paid accordingly. However, he is not such a stickman that other teams fear pitching to him in tight spots. He will be prime tradable material in about 5 years into his deal , when his weight hits about 255 . For now he is our odd chance at a big hit but Raffy does not yet rank with some of the classic monster hitters that played for Boston. And his defense is ok , but on the edge of marginal.
  20. Arroyo hits yet another warning track flyball . He does that with some frequency.
  21. I hope I live long enough to see Casas reach his potential. In the interim, he is miserable to watch at the plate
  22. 2 outs, Winck give up a smash up the middle that Arroyo partially blocks, but it rolls just far enough that the runner scores. Doesn't matter because, Sox are about to score 8 ( over the next 4 games) Notice Winck chased the foul bloop, but failed to back up the plate on Arroyo's throw. Didn't matter as he jammed the yankee lightweight Volpe
  23. OK, If they leave Peralta at almost 30 pitches for Devers then, Raffy really does need to deliver. Yoshi's amazing AB sets up a great chance. Team is 0-4 with RISP Nice, Dude, had to go chopping. 1-11 with man/men on , 0-5 with RISP.
  24. But it wasn't a Home Run, so now Turner needs to get one, please
  25. Yankee Stadium has always been a cheap shot HR to RF. Maybe one of our LH hitters can mimic Willie
