  1. O'B had to mention that Ketel Marte's streak of 23 consecutive games reaching base was on the line. 2 seconds later Marte grounds a single to RF. O'B STFU
  2. Dugo comes alive and getting more runs in. Amazing that 5 guys have multiple hits who could not find their way to Angels Stadium
  3. Winck reinforcing my opinion that relievers who use more than 20 pitches to get through an inning are not very effective. Winckowski just got 6 outs on 20 pitches . That's effective !
  4. Yoshida needs tomorrow night off , never saw 3Ks from him.
  5. Given that fact, more understandable. Good for Sale to have pretty much shut down D'backs, and thankful he got support. Now the BP needs to show up big time.
  6. On the other hand, "load management" dictates that Sale is done after 5 tonight ? They only have a 4 run lead. Yes, i understand Sale went 110+- in last 2 outings, but he is now the STOPPER. Don't blow it
  7. So Max, the question becomes, stick with what works tonight or return to the more typical Devers/Duran lineup tomorrow ? Actually glad that Cora shook it up tonight the prior 4 games were awful offensive performances.
  8. Having come to appreciate Duran's major turnaround, his current slump is troubling. He needs to figure it out, get lucky and breakthrough or , mentally, he may revert to the jerk of '22. Sincerely hope not because Duvall is not necessarily the answer on a 1 year contract with a sore wrist.
  9. Sox with 59 are sort of middle of the MLB pack.
  10. A double day off for Devers ? There was 300 miles of travel involved. More importantly, this an opportunity for Sale to extend his comeback in the role of a stopper. The pitcher who ends losing streaks . Of course he will need some run support , so there is that factor to consider. Hope Chris throws a 2 hit shutout.
  11. If I had to part with one to make a useful deal ( not a half-season rental) it would be Bleis who is a couple or three years out, if he makes it. Maybe limited upside as a power hitting outfielder. Bleier and Bleis could get us a stronger reliever . The interesting trade asset is Whitlock. If , by trade deadline, he is not one of our 5 starters, but a multi-inning reliever , his long term utilization by the Sox is diminished . However, he is under club control through 2026, plus 2 more club options by his extended, cheap contract, so I do not think Garrett is going anywhere soon.
  12. Right now, Enmanuel is my pride and joy. After all , with practice, reps and hard work most players can become better fielders ( See Duran, J.) . Valdez is a more natural hitter , more in the Devers mode ( See ball/hit ball) . The guys from the DR do love to swing the bat, and it has rewarded them very nicely over the years.
  13. I don't much doubt that Casas can only improve. His top 4% walk ratio is belied by the fact that his .312 OBP is below MLB average of.320 . He appears to have good plate discipline and patience but the reality is he doesn't swing or make hard contact often enough at this stage of his career. Too many called 3rd strikes, and foul balls, just missing some center cuts. Not saying he can't play, just that he needs more development , as Duran did ( or may still ), Dugo and now Wong . The question is how many development projects can you carry at the MLB level simultaneously and win ? Or do they become, with Devers, the core of a team that wins consistently for the next 5 years. The real concern is that Casas doesn't join the list of Red Sox prospect flameouts , the most recent of which remains Dalbec, but the list is significant over the past 10 years.
  14. Danny, I did go to the 3 games in Anaheim and , in fact, they were unwatchable at bat in that series.
  15. Who will make it to SS in Fenway for the Sox first, Mayer or Mondesi, lol
  16. If it was possible to be more excited about a news item, I would have to lie down to stop the heart from leaping from my chest. I'm happy Arroyo is healthy enough to play and will only be happier when he moves on to another team .
  17. I would think he'll get the $500MM+/10 yr offers from 5 teams (Mets, Padres, Dodgers, Yankees, Giants) . Ohtani will stay on the west coast, but Angels won't be competitive bidders. The Red Sox FO will pay it lip service but won't be serious contenders.
  18. The 2022 failure to get some value back for any 1 or all of Bogaerts, Wacha, Eovaldi, JDM , like most things in hindsight, was huge . A capitulation fire sale would have been PR disaster but so will missing the 2023 playoffs, if that should happen. Bloom has more depth to work with this year but some clear needs . He also has some dilemmas , like CF ( will Duran be a long term factor ?); 1B ( when will Casas figure it out-pull the trigger?) ; who is the real SS ( is Story the guy or does he go to 2B?); C ( Is Wong the answer as #1, is McGuire a problem with the pitchers ?) . Can he get anything for Dalbec , Arroyo, Kike that helps in another area ? And those names don't address pitching like a reliable #2 SP and Houck/Whitlock vs the BP .
  19. Will the Sox rise like Phoenix from the ashes of the the Anaheim debacle ? If they do not score early and often off Pfaadt ( 7.65/1.55 WHIP), then Pf***'em . Seriously, the batters need to put their heads back on and work this guy . This goes from Devers through Dugo, Duran and Casas, basically the whole lineup. Relentless Red Sox hitting is needed to sweep this series against a D'backs team with a better record (29-21). Don't Pfail, boys.
  20. This team has a chance to go wild in Arizona against the 29-21 Diamondbacks and drop three more or sweep them . That's because I believe now more than ever that this is a .500+- roster, very inconsistent and prone to getting "hot" and "cold" all together, the same way they take showers after a game. Go back to March 30 and prove me wrong on this very odd performance of a weak roster.. Go back to 2022 and tell me why this team is a lot different , except for one thing. A few of the young guys are now a year further into their development and showing some level of improvement, but not with a true breakout player ( maybe Bello ?)
  21. Can someone explain why Wong called for a slow sweeping curve ball up in the zone to Trout to facilitate his 2 run HR ? Surely it had nothing to do with Rodriguez's pitching , who was not impressive either. After Cora came out mid-inning to talk to Bello after the failed attempt to retire Ohtani on the toss from Casas, the Angel fan sitting next to me asked if I thought Bello was injured. I said , No, but he may be butt hurt after Cora explains the history of pitcher's getting to 1B timely.
  22. Having watched the previous 5 games close up , the fall off in hitting over the past 32 innings ( 1 run scored) is disappointing because the pitching has been good enough to win 2 of the 3 losses . Maybe tonight's the night. Last night the Sox batters seemed like they could not get out quick enough , hurrying through their obligatory AB's. Devers does not look good at all, McGuire has totally lost his way , Dugo and Duran are topping the ball with uppercuts, and Casas is still looking for walks. In fairness, he did get 1, and a ground ball single. Yoshi is not getting that slashing line drive type stroke on the ball. I would expect some lineup shakeup tonight vs the LH Anderson, who shows a high ERA (5.27)and WHIP ( 1.62). But so did Canning before last night's game.
  23. Assuming the object is to either get some mileage out of Kluber via IP or trade bait, going to the pen doesn't make Corey valuable in any way. How many long relievers do you need ? This team will lose about 30 of its next 60 games , based on recent observation , let Kluber get his share of starts. Then try like hell to move him to a GM more desperate for pitching in July. The bullpen is a DFA with perfume, not likely to fool anyone. The benefit of moving him out of the way is to allow the continued development of Houck as a starter and make way for Whitlock's return.
  24. Red Sox hitters should bust their mini-slump against Canning who sports a WHIP of 1.5 this year.
  25. The other side of the Mcguire equation was that he started the year showing he could hit effectively, while Wong was one of our 5 regular sub-Mendoza line batters. Now Wong has hit better, and McGuire has reverted to more of his mean, possibly due to declining AB opportunities as Wong catches most of the starters. McGuire offensively has become a L-R Ph'er for Wong in later innings .
