  1. Both you and Max have no ability whatsoever to discern sarcasm or irony. You both are one dimensional. I do not need instruction from either of you on the subleties of baseball strategy . Save your commentary for someone who needs to learn about what is going on. The second sentence should have been a clue. I now include Dipre and regrettably Notin in the crew who cannot interpret what they think they see. Sorry guys but you are missing it and falling for the joke.
  2. You are now very much correct ! It will take 6 to win
  3. Go for the DP, give up the tie, screw Paxton out of a win after his excellent start . Cora will never manage again at the MLB level. Strictly AAAA thinking. Winkc looks like a jerk giving up the lead and allowing an HR. Just a mistake on pitch location says Wake. A true f***up on the error and the HR
  4. Damnable, incompetent Winck , and Devers too, can nobody here play this game ( C. Stengel) . LOL
  5. There is no reason to object to Crawford coming in when he did. But there is plenty of room to question Crawford's ability to throw strikes ( or equivalents) if that is his job as a middle reliever . Cora did what he had to do if he was actually managing this game and didn't hesitate. Crawford did not have it, and AC saw that the game was at risk. He didn't know Winck would be successful, but he sensed that Crawford was not right.
  6. Winckowski reinforces the point about throwing strikes or apparent strikes out of the hand. The same guy he K'ed to end the 6th, hit the Grannie last night
  7. 3-2 with 2 outs in the 6th . Both runs scored are walks. Crawford pulled, so now both Crawdad and Winck are burned in the same game. But no complaints because this one is the one to win . It's the one the Sox are playing.
  8. Every assessment of pitching vs hitting emphasizes Strike 1 as a major differentiator in the AB outcome. Any pitcher looking for a nice career ( 5years or more) must have control and command to overcome the situations they find themselves in. When you get a clean inning start, like Crawford just did, then you cannot walk the first 2 guys. Maybe he should have pitched last night. Nothing a DP wouldn't cure
  9. There must be something far different between the Fenway BP mounds and the actual one that counts. It must be true because the relievers who come in from the pen cannot find the plate for a strike. f*** Crawford. Looks like Rodriguez last night.
  10. Devers has the plate discipline and hitting eye of a mole. He's our guy and we must love him but he is not a consummate hitting star. He is a swinger and sometimes that works.
  11. Valdez does bring some pop when he connects, and his HR tonight was important so far.. He will benefit from spending the 2nd half of the season at WooSox working on defense. Unless Kike goes elsewhere in a trade, Enmanuel can't stay on the parent club when Story returns. Neither can Chang most likely
  12. 2 out walks run the pitch count up , especially when followed by long doubles, then a hard single. Can Paxton avoid losing the lead? Only the Shadow knows Paxton nearing a 100 pitches at 4.2 innings. Not much different than Bello's result. Paxton really struggling to get the 3rd out, but does at 100 pitches
  13. Raffy slashing ? Nice, he needs to be not just the money ( contract) leader on this team, but the real heavyweight in the lineup. Bloom needs to back him up with another 2 guys who can hit.
  14. Youk and Wake (??) talking about Duran's .293 average, and saying he has slipped a bit lately but "It's not like he's K'ing 3 times a game". Last 7 games, Jarren has K'ed 15 of 28 AB's, 0 BB's and 3 hits. Now that's a slump , and I hope Jarren does well for his and the team's sake. But 2 former MLB'ers have no clue as to what's happening and make it worse by talking like they know something. They would know more if the followed the TalkSox site.
  15. Nice move on the pitch by Yoshi to grab the lead. Sox are 14 -5 when scoring first.
  16. Paxton pitching ok through the 2nd, but at 41 pitches he may be igniting the "How far should the starter go?" argument that rages on in the 5/30 game thread. Paxton cranked the FB up to 98 so he should have a full inventory of weapons to keep shutting out the Reds until the Sox can score 3 or 4 , coasting the rest of the way on the Winck rested BP.
  17. Turner was overmatched on those FB's
  18. Here's a heads up as the game starts. I meet with a group of men every Wednesday afternoon at one of our local wineries and we debate all manner of everything, except politics, while consuming vast quantities of liquid refreshment. I participated and now will comment on the game action without filters in play. Grab your knickers or block me out, because I may say things that are not supported by B or FWar, and reflect only my personal opinions, not those of the well informed on this blog.
  19. Not sure this game will get played today, since the discussion about last night's game hasn't been concluded with a firm consensus . The game threads are transcending into great debates about what happened versus what might have been. Win tonight's game to change the dialog . What's the chance a weak Weaver will throw a woven throw over the woeful bats of the wobegon .
  20. IMO, you can only win the game you are currently playing , not tomorrow's or next week's. To me, Cora should have recognized that Rodriguez was having a bad night after 3 walks and a hit, prior to the Grand Slam. Maybe Cora was thinking it was 50-50 between a GIDP or just another walk then he makes a move to Sheriff . But maybe he should have thought that after 35 pitches with only 16 strikes, Rodriguez would try to push a strike over the plate and get bombed , which is what happened. A statistically rare outcome but certainly possible, and those 4 runs, along with the ball Duran couldn't pull down in CF , resulting in a triple off Sheriff and a sac fly for the 9th run sunk the Sox 8 run outburst against the Reds lesser BP throwers. So did Cora defer pulling Joely because he considered the game lost at 4-0 , due to dead bats in the 6th, or was he playing today's game vs the Reds saving ammo in the BP, OR was he actually preplaying the 4 game series with TB who waxed his team 4 straight a month and a half ago. Time to get the Sox act back together and win these next two.
  21. The spot between 1B and DH is known as the coach's box .
  22. That result is actually worse than just going quietly 9-3
  23. This situation makes the non-decision to relieve an obviously failing Rodriguez a criminal act
  24. Brain dead Yoshida
  25. 8 runs allowed by the BP after that incredibly horrible start by Bello sunk them. If that GS had not occured this would still be an interesting game as the Sox bats maybe wake up.
