Granted that the Sox bullpen has been overall a plus in the second half, especially Whitlock and Chapman. Looking at the loooong list of pitchers Cora has had to use in relief this year, I note that 30 losses are credited to relievers. For a reliever to get the loss they had to enter the game ahead or tied and then give up the deciding run ., although the subsequent reliever may have given up the hit or walk that scored the runner the loser put on base. Weissert leads the relievers with 6 losses . How about if that was only 25 losses ? Could be in line to clinch the WC tonight and probably be playing BJ's for 1st place.

Screwball Skubal pitching for Detroit vs Guardians tonight . That would set him up for another start on the Final Sunday vs the Red Sox . Crochet goes tomorrow and doesn't prosper on short rest , especially after he will go over 200 IP tomorrow. Don't fool yourself by thinking this WC race won't come down to the last day. If you have been a Sox fan for as long as many of us have, you know that's where it ends up, bottom of 9th down 1 run with Wong, Rafaela and Hamilton due up.

Check Kevin Gausman's ERA in last 3 appearances. It's about 0.78 . He also goes 6+ to 7 innings with a WHIP below 1.00 Tough ride for a team known for K's and LOBs

I think Woosox shut down their season Sunday, but there had to be some live arms available to give Abreu a sense of what was coming. The goal is obvious , Have Wilyer set for the 2 playoff games , IF they make it.. Plus your Gold Glover wasn't in RF, Yoshi was . Romy, Refsnyder and Narvaez could not have done worse than the 4 K's. In the end none of them would have made a difference. Sox have lost 5 of 6 last sweep opportunities , so the trend was already unfavorable. What's fairly important is to win Game #1 in Toronto . George Springer will have an impact , just watch. Time for Giolito to show up big and earn his 2 years of pay.

Best case; least likely. I see the Sox going 2-3 pending the final Sunday game vs Detroit which could be winner take all. All hands on deck for that showdown, including Crochet, if needed.
