  1. A 21 year old DH, who can't play the field ? Yoshida, but younger . Very hard to accept that Roman Anthony cannot be trained to throw a ball from LF in Fenway . There are high school kids doing it well.
  2. The throw from Anthony from that short distance should have been a line drive, airmailed to the plate, just like the hit to him. Watching the play multiple times I say Anthony had the ball before the runner actually touched 3rd and he did not expect the guy to be running . He jerked the throw because he allowed himself to get caught between a full throw and who should he throw to. Doesn't really matter
  3. I also doubt Cora will get fired or his sub coaches, or Breslow either, but I will say this is the kind of play that does get people fired.
  4. I still wonder seriously about the prep in ST, whether the WBC had a real effect. If anything it should have sharpened some guys up. For those who think ST is a non-indicator , I will say i called it. The team looked weak and did not play well in the last 10 games prior to season starting, now poorly playing in about 80% of the first 10 games that count, and will still count in September.
  5. Agreed that Roman may have been looking for a non existent cutoff man and jerked his throw while Story who should have been the cutoff wandered over towards 3B and the generally clueless Durbin. A thoroughly botched play and execution by all.
  6. Contreras gets a 2 out HR which looks good as a stat but does nothing to contribute to winning a game. Not his fault. The 2 run butchery , after 2 outs, by a combo of Whitlock and Anthony sealed the deal.
  7. Nobody stepping up with a key play in the field to rob a hit, no XBH with 2 or 3 on , and no BP guy shutting it down when the win is possible. No starter truly dominating after Crochet's Game#1
  8. I know some here have all the stats that show Whitlock to be a superior pitcher. Here's reality. He uses way too many pitches to get 3 outs. 37 the other night before taking 3 games off to help with the baby and 27 tonight while surrendering the lead runs ( only 12 strikes) . He does not have command of an OUT pitch to finish these key innings. He may be OK as a middle reliever but i don't see him as very effective this year. Another bullpen loss brewing
  9. I'm not typing fast enough to beat your accurate comments, illinois
  10. WTF is wrong with Anthony"s arm. His last 3 throws from left have been awful. A guy from 1B is called safe ( subject to review) at home due to the crappy throw escaping Narvaez. Whitlock isn't back it up, as Chapman didn't the other night. This team is playing some fundamentally poor baseball
  11. One of 2025's favorite comments was that the starting pitching did not go far enough in games, so Cora wore out the bullpen arms early in the season. Through 10 starts this year, twice through the rotation, the Sox starters are averaging 4.6 innings per start, not enough to be theoretically eligible for a win ( if they ever do so). The BP has pitched a virtual equal number of innings with some success and some failure. They have taken 4 of the 7 losses. When a reliever gets a loss, it means they entered the game tied or AHEAD and gave up the winning run.
  12. Lack of coordination between Mayer and Contreras on a simple bouncer. Mayer broke to cover second base and Contreras stood still . If I had to guess, it was Mayer's ball to go after since Story had 2B well in hand. Just more evidence of "rookie" type play . This bunch was not ready to play MLB baseball
  13. Unbelievable, blowing a 3 run lead, still bases loaded with 1 out, no balls out of the infield
  14. Can Durbin just stay put and let Story make a play. ? There is no defensive improvement visible on this team
  15. Was Durbin's services retained for his glove or bat ? I can't recall and sure can't see any productive outcome. That is usually the kind of play that causes Bello to blow up. Cora, with his steel trap memory, makes the move
  16. Was Bello afraid his FB wouldn't get to 2B in time. ? He had room, IMO, to get Hamilton
  17. Contreras reminds me of a chihauhau, all bark and no bite. I understand he has history vs the Brewers but that pitch barely grazed his hand and the slide was like watching Machado take out the long retired Pedroia. The only thing Willson has done besides mispell Wilson is to make us forget who Casas is. A setback in his recovery, ? Probably from obsessive-compulsive overworking it.
  18. Be assured that Bello is not on my highlight reel. I have always found him immature and easily rattled if anything goes wrong against him
  19. The lineup shuffle for today can't hurt. They scored first and Bello is holding on through 3 . So there is hope for the turnaround guys.
  20. I think you are on to Cora. He is not trying to get fired as much as he is playing the guys Breslow delivers and showing them up in a subtle way. Perhaps AC wants CB's seat in the front office . A losing season could be the key . In any event, the organization is screwing the fan base through their internal issues, whatever they may be .
  21. 6 Sox players with OPS below .600 , including Duran and Contreras, plus the left side of the infield Durbin and Story. And where is the 46 million sub, IKF . Should be IDK, 4 ABs total in 9 games.
  22. I doubt he gets fired during the season , but I do think this will be his last year. They will paper it over with a kick upstairs, like head scout eastern Puerto Rico and good friend of JH. This team doers not appear ready for the season vs good competition , and the roster is not strong . Shoul;d Cora have expected 3 full innings out of Uber ? Ranger Suarez will prove to be a major mistake, Weissert has been long balled in 3 of 5 appearances , Breslow will next on the hot seat and dropped as a cost reduction measure next off season.
  23. In that case, they will only need to gain 1 game per month, much more doable.
  24. I am thinking about a common theme from the past couple years. This team just isn't interesting to watch. Star Power ? Ok, people will look at Roman expecting exceptional hitting, Crochet looking for a no hit gem. Some here think Cedanne Rafaela is prime time . Not so much. Chapman, an all-timer but a mercenary and today's LP after 2 out, 2 strike consecutive hits . Right now they are dull as a butter knife .
  25. If the Sox gained 1 game per week on the Yankees, it will be in May before they would catch them. Already playing for a WC slot, if they start hitting.
