  1. You hit the nail on the head. We don’t know how well Duran might pan out in the majors but you take a prospect with his pedigree and turn him into a bench guy.
  2. Well I think it’s fair to say my prediction of a Duran call up on July was wrong. This may partially be due to how well the team is playing, particularly Santana who was hitting really well the past week. Although his 0-5 last night brought him down to .267/.313/.400, which is not bad but not great. I also factored in the Sox history of bringing guys up during west coast trips as precedent, which made the trip out Oakland an attractive guess.
  3. I don't think drafting Mayer and Lawlar has any influence on the future of Bogaerts and Devers. When talking about those guys you're effectively talking about drafting highschool age hitters. Many Highschoolers who are drafted are shortstops because that's where teams put their best player, they could easily end up almost anywhere else on the diamond.
  4. I have no doubt Chris Sale will be back and pitch this year. The question becomes is he 100%? or is he 80%? If he is 100% what type of workload can we expect in October?
  5. The problem with Chris Sale coming back is he has to be ramped up slowly and his workload is going to be limited, he had Tommy John surgery and hasn't even begun a rehab assignment yet. He truly is an X factor, I don't think it's not plausible he can help this team in October but that's also asking a lot right now. We just don't know how long it's going to take and even if he's elite again will he be ready to handle the workload on his arm?
  6. True, but I do think this year is unique in that there are not any clear-cut top tier guys at the top. I think this is more of a testament that the top 6-8 guys in the draft are all viewed very similarly in terms of the ceiling.
  7. A lot of guys are, almost everyone in the top 8 has been mocked #1 at some point recently.
  8. Devers is fine at 3B, I don't know what his problems were early in the season, but after the first month, he's looked good over there.
  9. Yeah, I'd love to get Leiter in our system too. I'd be very happy with one of the top hitters in this class, especially Lawlar or Mayer.
  10. "4. Red Sox: Henry Davis, C, Louisville The names here continue to be Davis, the top college bat in the country, Lawlar, Watson and Rocker, of those who weren’t taken in the top three of this mock" So the Sox are pretty much in on everyone not named House in that top tier of 8 guys.
  11. Latest Mock Draft from Mayo: Pirates - Marcelo Mayer Rangers - Jack Leiter Tigers - Jackson Jobe Red Sox - Henry Davis Orioles - Kahlil Watson D-Backs - Jordan Lawlar Royals - Kumar Rocker Rockies - Brady House. So much Fluidity between those 8 guys. I think that's very likely your top 8. The actual order on the draft day might be a little different but that's the top teir.
  12. Kike has never really been a starter, he's a super-utility guy. Some utility guys get more reps and are more valuable than others, Kike is that guy. On this team, with so many black holes coupled with Coras love for rotating peoples days off Kike effectively becomes a starter.
  13. That’s the case for him not coming up. But if he did come up and slid into left, Verdugo in CF and Renfroe I. Right Kike could return to the role of super utility who gets close to starter reps. We know Cora has been, and continues to be very good at getting people their at bats.
  14. Correction: Playoff chase.
  15. Hey, I wouldn't bet on my predictions, but if the Sox want him for playoff run he's not going to the Olympics.
  16. Don't worry, you will see Duran up in 3 days.
  17. I just don't see Devers ever asking to move to 1B. He's going to be a free agent in a few years and he will get paid much more handsomely as a 3B than he would as a 1B. Also, after a horrid start, he's looked much better over at 3B for over a month now. Casas is hitting over 50% ground balls in AA as a 20 year old with barely any experience past A ball. We don't see him until 2022 if he continues to make improvements.
  18. I really think the pick comes down to Leiter/Davis/Lawlar/Mayer with Mayer being the least likely guy in that group to fall.
  19. I don't think that's the only way he gets to the Red Sox, the one defining narrative we keep hearing about this draft is no guy is really separating himself as the clear-cut #1 talent at the top. This class is very deep in stud high school shortstops who can all go in the top 5 Lawlar, Mayer, House, Wilson, and an up the middle college hitter who has middle of the order potential. I think it's also worth pointing out that there are guys who will sign for 750K under slot at the top and guys who will sign for 2 million under slot. Most teams picking in the top 2-4 are signing guys for below slot by a few hundred thousand. These Mocks change from week to week from source to source, I don't think anything is set in stone. Here is what we know, one of the top short stops (Lawar, Mayer) and one of Davis, Leiter is bound to fall to the Sox. I think the Sox pick comes down to those 4, but they could easily be in on guys like Wilson, Jobe, Rocker, and House too and we just have not heard much about it.
  20. Moving from CF to LF is not a huge deal, the Sox have made moves like this before. It’s not uncommon to develop a player at a premium position and move him off when needed. I’d be willing to bet Duran plays LF not CF, let’s call it a gentleman’s bet. I don’t envision Dalbec as a platoon, I think you have to give him at bats to help him progress. It’s the same thing with Duran, you’re not bringing him up mid season to get half reps, he’s going to play LF full time. However, if Dalbec continues his struggles and the Sox decide they need to make moves to compete I think you may be right on Kike, and he’s going to have to make his at bats up somewhere with Duran out in left.
  21. The thing about 1B is you have so many options in the pipeline. Bogaerts may move to 3B pushing Devers to 1B. We have one of the best prospects in baseball in Casas who looks like he could be MLB ready by this time next year. With so many other questions looming over this roster I’m not sure we want to spend assets on 1B unless the right deal itself, I’m not investing top prospects in a premium player at first.
  22. If you bring Duran up now I think you plug him in LF.
  23. If a pitcher has two really good pitches, and then a third pitch he’s going at the top of the draft. If a guy falls to where the Sox normally pick with 3 pitches he’s going to have serious health issues and/or control issues.
