  1. The Sox didn’t technically remove him from the Olympics. He was left off the roster because the Sox might call him up. They don’t have alternates, which is stupid.
  2. Yeah, I think the Sox might have to gamble with Ward, but I could see someone Whitlocking him.
  3. I think you have to throw away the Yorke pick. Big difference picking #4. Also, they didn’t have a 2nd round pick last year in a shortened draft and we’re trying to maximize their other picks. This doesn’t mean Bloom won’t look to cut a deal with the guy at the top, but I wouldn’t look much into 2020z
  4. My point is the part of his game where his defense really lacks is his pitch framing. That’s not going to matter in a few years with Robo umps.
  5. I mean, there’s exceptions to every norm. It’s not inconceivable that Leiter is drafted and doesn’t sign. But I’d be surprised if that happens. He likely signs if he goes 1-1 1-2 1-3 1-4
  6. If Robo umps are coming, I think one would have to take a long hard look at Davis if he’s still there at #4
  7. It’s funny, I’ve heard playing for a losing team expedites your time to the majors, and playing for a winning team expedites your time, which is it? Personally I think is negligible but I suppose if I had to chose a side I’d say playing for a s***** team gets you there. Small market teams don’t have the same budget to fill out a 25 man so they’re more likely to bring up a top prospect young where’s a team like Boston will wait, or have them as an up/down guy for a year. But if a guy can play, and forces a teams hand it doesn’t matter. Think Mookie Betts
  8. When guys sign because they want more money they normally turning down a 800k or maybe a million. They were drafted after the first round and return to college and years later become a top draft pick (sometimes not, there’s risk in turning down the money). A great example of this was Alex Bergman. The thing about Leiter is he’s not going to be turning down 1 million dollars, he will be tur i g down 6.5-8 million dollars, how much better than that can he do? Not much, but conversely he could blow his arm out and never be the same. Odds are astronomically high he signs. He’s posturing for a payday like these guys do every year. I apologize, but I don’t buy into cooked up conspiracy theory’s that he can afford to not take money because daddy’s rich. Leiter is a top 4 pick, and he signs. Book it.
  9. That’s a two way street, the penalties could become much harsher, which may explain every teams desire to go past the limit (LA aside)
  10. Most teams have never paid a significant bill because most teams have never gone past and the. STAYED past the line, which dramatically increases with every subsequent year one is over. I mean, I really don’t have strong emotions on whether or not the Sox should do it, I’m just certain they will not.
  11. LA is in a league of their own. No one else is over the limit, and if I was a betting man I’d wager that holds true to the end of the year. EDIT. I left LA out because they were already over.
  12. With the uncertainties of a new CBA looming overhead, I don’t see any team going past the Luxury Tax Line. We might not like it, but I believe the Sox will not do so.
  13. Their usage of Houck has been funny, as has his pitch mix been. All the opposite of a guy you’re throwing in your rotation. I don’t think we see Houck in a non relief role unless he’s piggybacking or being followed.
  14. I think Houck will be a great asset out of the pen, he might piggy back and throw some long relief too. I can see them throwing Houck out behind Sale when comes back.
  15. We shall see, everyone has changed their board several times the past few months. Jordan Lawlar was flown to Pittsburgh to meet with the team just two days ago. I think he’s still very much in play for pick #1.
  16. If you’re more likely to stick at SS you’re more likely to go higher in the draft, which explains those results. If you’re a HS shortstop who scouts think will move to Corner OF you’re probably moving to the later rounds. Maybe late 1st early 2nd if teams really think you can hit.
  17. Interesting, I think another good exercise would be to look up/down MLB rosters and see what position all the position players played in HS. That would be less work than looking at all 40 rounds, opposed to 1. Regardless, Bogaerts isn’t going to influence the decision of Lawlar VS. Rocker or Mayer VS. Leiter. They will take BPA
  18. Here’s my top 6 mock. Final addition. Lawlar Leiter Mayer Davis House Watson
  19. There’s a draft thread under the “Red Sox minor league” section
  20. Maybe at an earlier date he would have taken money like that, probably less years and with opt-outs, but it likely would have retained him here for maybe one more year. By the time they traded him he was a year away from FA, not getting arb years bought out, I'd expect the dollar value needed to retain Mookie is equivalent to what he signed with LA.
  21. That's very interesting, I wonder what the details were? I'd imagine the contract would have been filled with opt-outs, like Bogaerts is. And, at the end of the day, he DIDN'T accept that extension.
  22. I'd be willing to place a gentlemans wager that theres no way Duran plays CF in Boston this year as long as either Verdugo or Kike are in the lineup. Verdugo is a much better fielder than Duran is right now.
  23. It's really nice to see Groome turn things around. I think he can even be better than he's showing right now. I remember in one of his games I think he walked a couple of guys consecutively and the last one of 4 straight pitches, the pitching coach came out to the mound and he immediately locked it down struck a few guys out, and got out of the inning. That suggests the struggles he does have are fixable, and that's a good sign. He's still a young arm learning how to pitch. I'm not saying he's not tradeable, but I think we can hold this stock a little longer and sell higher (or develop him).
  24. I believe I heard this on the BA podcast months ago but there were some rumblings that Mookie Betts didn’t want to resign here and was set on reaching FA. So I think that’s a fair argument
  25. I think it’s the opposite. The Rangers or Tigers would be fools to not call his bluff if they believe he’s the best player available there.
