  1. More like next year, Sox farm is taking a big step forward this year.
  2. It means he has zero leverage. Sign for 2.1 million or go home. The Sox must really like Hickey, they probably sign Kavadas now too and take the 41st pick in next years draft.
  3. Yeah, the Sox obviously left some holes I filled, but saying that they didn’t make a big acquisition and that sends a bad message to the team is just absurd. I hope Schwarber can play first, woke up today thinking that has to be the move, or at the very least they are going to try him there at some point down the stretch of Franchy cant pick it up vs RHP.
  4. Houck is going to start here and there, but he falls apart 2nd time through a lineup. You can’t count on his to consistently start every 5 days. He’s fine in there for now, give some guys some rest, and the Sox are playing a ton of heavy RHH lineups. But don’t expect him to go 7.
  5. Uh oh
  6. I suppose it’s either Schwarber at first or they’re going to go with a Franchy/Dalbec platoon. Dalbec is actually ok VS. LHP, it’s the other side of that platoon that has been lackluster. If Cordero could even just be his career .715 vs RHP moving forward that platoon would bear fruit. Won’t be elite, but it won’t be a black hole either. Still, one hates to waste a roster spot on a platoon 1B.
  7. I was thoroughly convinced there’s no way they were going to play Schwarber at 1B but after the rest of their moves played out I’m starting to hope they do plan on doing just that. Maybe they start him in the outfield and when they have more confidence in his hamstring they throw some 1B at him.
  8. Not that I didn’t yearn for more, but I don’t think the players have the same takes as we do. I think trading away players can send a bad message through a club house but largely keeping the team intact if anything shows a vote of confidence. Here’s what they did add. They added a relief pitcher who they feel can get tough lefties out at a time when their division opponents picked up some LH bats. Strategic. They added a hitter who is now 2nd on their team in OPS. It’s kind of hard to argue the front office sends a message to the team that they’re unwilling to trade to improve the team when they add a bat that’s arguably now your 2nd best offensive player. Just dumb. They added Houck recently, and they have Sale coming back. If Sale is Sale, you made a better move than any of your opponents could have made. Look, the rebuttals to my post are already spinning through my head “what about 1st” “what if sale isn’t sale” etc etc. I don’t disagree with ANY of that. But implying that the players on the team are being sent bad messages is just a stupid take.
  9. If the tables were turned 1/2 this board would be ecstatic Bloom traded away the future for a chance for the 2nd wild card. I’m not completely happy with Blooms decision to not make a bigger splash but I’d bet on him over cashman at the poker table.
  10. I was very dissatisfied with the Sox deadline deals, not that they were bad deals but rather I don’t feel they addressed all their needs. Seeing much of the angst in the fan base is making me feel a little better about Blooms decisions. If a lot of people are pissed…..he probably got something right.
  11. Yankees had a strong farm system too, they cashed in one year too early if you asked me. Someone is feeling pressure in the Bronx
  12. Yankees gave up 1/3 of their top 20.
  13. I’m sorry 1.92 I think this guy can get lefties out too. He might be useful down the stretch
  14. Davis has great Peripherals this year, his high ERA would be in the low 2’s if you literally tok out one out. Not even an inning but just one out. I’m disappointed, I expected more. But valued alone without consideration of the Sox going for a playoff run it was a good trade. A small trade, but maybe the Sox think Davis is on the cusp of reliever greatness. At the very least, he’s much better than workman.
  15. What did you expect for Chavis. Chavis is garbage who’s bat ha potential, hasn’t thrown it together yet. Maybe he will maybe he won’t. He got traded for the pitcher version of himself.
  16. This Chavis deal is a great deal on its own, you traded a 40 man future loss who is the odd man out with Schwarber for a pitcher who has some potential. High K numbers, we know how relievers can turn it on. It’s a good deal. Yet, it’s also extremely disappointing and leaves one dissatisfied. This isn’t the deal that puts us over the top. This deal does very little to help the Sox this year. This deadline is a real head scratcher.
  17. So we traded for Workmans replacement? Could have found that in our own system
  18. I know trades are announced after 4 so maybe more is coming but I’m going to be pissed if all we got was Kyle Schwarber?!?!?!? Bloom has been pretty great up until now if that’s the fact. This team is a World Series contender, everyone else just got better than they did. Why even make one trade if you’re not going to plug up the REAL holes????
  19. He will play LF, maybe a little C/DH too
  20. Xander Bogaerts.
  21. Has Jeters value gone Down this year (pun intended) absolutely!!! but I bet people would be surprised at how little it actually went down. Front offices understand the progression and player development isn't linear. They don't expect every guy to plow his way in to the majors like Mookie Betts. Downs could still carry a lot of weight in a trade for the Sox, or be a useful player in a year or two here.
  22. Let’s welcome our new starting LFer to Boston!!
  23. We’re getting something right at 4 today. Stay tuned
  24. Schwarber is also a good post season hitter. .981 OPS.
  25. I think you could use him up here as a bench bat, pinch-runner and with how much Cora shuffles the lineup and gives guys days off he's going to get a decent amount of at-bats. We're in a playoff run so I think you have to factor that in. If this was May or June I would agree with you, let the kid get regular at bats. But in the midst of a playoff run were trading regular at-bats with irregular at-bats for one month....not three. I can live with that and I think the Sox can too.
