  1. Wow….so insightful. FWIW I’m talking about trading Mayer for #1 starter ace. Last time we did that we gave up TWO prospects Mayers caliber plus more. It’s so funny how people can criticize the FO but yet their concept of how much a FA should be paid, or what we should pay in a trade is so lopsided and devoid of any realization that there are other GMs on the other side of a deal and other teams bidding on players. Or they think we can trade a large number of garbage prospects for a premium player, like would you do that? Would you take 10 garbage prospects for Rafael Devers? Then there’s the other group who have the mantra of “well it’s not my money” or say they’re just prospect and would gladly trade the entire farm for a rental. The biggest weakness on this last place team is pitching. They desperately need pitching. So let’s hear your genius plan to strengthen the pitching staff.
  2. Also, and I’m not GM, but as a general rule I don’t think you ever plan a MLB roster with anyone below AA in mind. They’re years away and So so much can happen. It’s like, I wouldn’t let Myers stop the Sox from resigning Bogaerts. (Or signing another top prospect). If Bogaerts is full performing at an all star level and Mayers looks ready to produce it’s a good problem to have.
  3. I’m not sure how confidence I have in Valdez and his .700 ops below average D profile. IDK, maybe Arroyo stays healthy at 1B.
  4. All those guys might not even hit enough to be MLBers, maybe Kavadas, but he’d still be a below average defensive profile.
  5. Yeah, I’m good with that. A three way platoon sounds more like a tape job than a plan.
  6. And I think it’s worth noting, I’m not dead set on trading Mayer, I’d prefer not too, but I wouldn’t hate it for a TOTRS type.
  7. Sale cost the #1 prospect in baseball plus 3 more. Effectively two mayers. Lopez isn’t exactly Sale, but Mayer isn’t exactly Moncada/Kopech either. I’d also expect to get more than Lopez back in a trade, with more moving parts, maybe even a third team to bring in a closer type or someone with closing potential too. Also, with Mayer, you. An shoot a little higher than Lopez maybe.
  8. 3 guys platooning are 1B? What happens if Franchy is a black hole? arroyo gets hurt, or even Hosmer? Who’s playing first base then? Franchy full time. I suppose you could say the same things if Casas goes down. It just seems un necessary. Why trade Casas when you don’t have too? And that actually gives you more money to spend next year. Also, starting Casas gives them a shot at earning a draft pick.
  9. I would expect Hosmers platoon split reversals fo end. That’s an anomaly And I’d expect regression towards the mean next year. Also, do we really want another platoon spot on this roster? Who are we platooning him with? Franchy? Dalbec? Guys who don’t have much value anywhere else. Or someone else we have to buy in FA instead of paying Casas the minimum. The reality is there are plenty of trade deals we could make for pitching, good pitching that don’t involve Casas.
  10. And Lopez has more potential than Casas, I don’t care what BTV says. I’d be willing to bet by years end he out values him. How often do they update their values? Lopez is putting himself in the convo as a top 30 pitcher in all of baseball who could be even more than that next year. Remember a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. The other side has to like the trade too. As fans our trade proposals are often biased.
  11. BTW if you trade for a SP and keep Casas without signing a 1B you have even more money.
  12. Yes I’d trade Mayer for him In a heartbeat. I’d expect a prospect back with Lopez and other working pieces, but he’s not going to be a MLBer for several years. And if we’ve signed a Dansby type our infield is set anyways. We’re also flush with up the middle talent now too.
  13. I honestly don’t get the allure of stallings, he’s not that good. A Wong/McGuire platoon might be much better than him.
  14. I’m fine with a McGuire/Wong platoon next year. If anything I’d sign Vasquez or Contreras and save my trade chips for some pitching. Which we need more than a catcher right now.
  15. Do we really want Hosmer there? I know the bars been set pretty low the last few years. Hosmer had a 3 war season years ago at age 27. Since then he’s been either below 1 or negative war. Going into his age 33 season should we expect more or less? He’s defense isn’t good either. Again, I know the bar was set low but he’s a lousy 1B. I know he’s free, but there’s a reason he’s free.
  16. It’s looking like Wong is going to be the better prospect out of that deal. In hindsight.
  17. You make that assumption with 100% of MLBers. But with a system flushed with talent, why are you so eager to trade a potential middle of the order bat? There’s other guys, who don’t have a place next year you could trade away? It just seems so unnecessary.
  18. I mean, there’s a lot of inbetween here but often trades are a “a bird in hand is worth two in the bush” scenario. When you suck, you’re not trading for MLB talent. You’re trading for two potential MLBers
  19. Agreed, but we have other top prospects to trade who we don’t need to fill immediate holes. Then you have cost controlled guys at 1B and a SP. that gives you even more flexibility to fill those other needs.
  20. I think you can add Anthony to the “looks really good so far” I know we didnt get the best draft grades but early returns suggest we had a phenomenal draft. Remember these guys grading a draft are the ones judging based on their own biased, flawed rankings. They really have no ideal.
  21. I’d explore Mayer heading that deadline first. Now you have a cheap pitcher and a 1B next year.
  22. But yes, generally speaking I like Aaron Judge.
  23. I believe BA and/or FA graphs had them at 9. Pipeline has them at 11
  24. Aaron Judge is irrelevant, the point is it’s easier to swallow those big contracts when you can constantly turn out top tier talent onto your team, you’ll never get there by trading it all away. I’m all for trading guys, but never trade a guy where you have a hole. We have a hole at 1B and our top prospect is a 1B man.
  25. I’m not trading Casas I’m starting him at 1B next year. The more cheap home grown guys you have like Casas, the easier it becomes to go out and throw money at a guy like Aaron Judge
