  1. Well, we did get multiple years of control of Verdugo for a 1/3 of a year of control of Betts. That alone wins the trade. It looks bad because of how good Betts is now under a new contract but it comes down to what you do with that money which makes it almost impossible to evaluate. But one of those moves was Hunter Renfroe. He also added Kike and other assets that ultimately took them within 2 games of a world series so from a certain perspective he did pretty darn well in that trade. What I want to know is.....what other offers were on the table. I think that's a fair question.
  2. Saurez is a nice player, but a .798 OPS at 30 years old vs. Devers? I'd bank on Devers posting the better WAR over the next 5 years.
  3. It would be hard not too if the Sox are going to be garbage again next year.
  4. Bellow lol. Bello* All errors are on Siri and not my fault.
  5. looking at his BB/9 his entire MiLB career has me unconcerned with 20 MLB innings. Not even close to DH
  6. And how many of those were 22 year olds in Boston? Bellow got great stuff, stuff doesn’t change from minors to majors only the opponents do. Bellow got it, he just has to put it together at this final level. He’s probably got some of the best we’ve seen in years (coming out of our farm) trust me. Still has to translate to the bigs though, I get that, but I’m banking on him.
  7. Schwarber had no place on this team. He's a DH/LF the one thing this team has plenty off. Renfroe is the one trade everyone seem to be on board with being a mistake. I suppose in hindsight you could have traded JDM and let Kyle take his place, but even then....how many more games do you win by adding .04 to your DH spot? At some point a logical conversation takes you to injury derailing this team. Because with a clean bill of health Story more than replaces Hunters bat.
  8. I'm not even sure about Wink either, he might be a lightening in a bottle type. Catch him while he's good, but he has no margin for error. I've seen Bello pitch in person a few times now, I think he's going to be good. How good I have no ideal, who does, but he's going to be the first legit starter we've developed since Clay. It's about damn time.
  9. Yeah, I don't remember ever thinking Renfroe wasn't going to be worth the money, I was skeptical he could duplicate a career year but I didn't think he was going to be bad. There seems to be some revisionist history going on there. But people keep on talking about Renfroe like he would have been the savior of this team. REALLY? he and his .825 OPS is good but not elite by any means. Especially for a corner outfielder. His value is tied to his power which is nice, but how many more games do we win with him on this team? 1-3 maybe. We're still out of the playoff race. It can both be true that Renfroe wasn't saving this team and it was a bad move to trade him though. Also, he's battled a few (minor) injuries this year, and will probably end up playing in about 37 less games this year. I get it the Sox suck, and I suppose the natural response to that is to project that anger out into everything and every move. Leave no stone unturned!!! it's a good thing teams aren't run like that.
  10. Agree 100%
  11. I highly doubt they're going to have Rafaela jump ahead of Bleis. They're lower on Rafaela than most and they really really like Bleis, If anything they have Bleis jump over Yorke. I think it's more likely we see Mayer Casas Bello Bleis Mata Yorke I could be underestimating them on dropping Yorke only a spot or two, but I don't think they have been that shaken by this season.
  12. Personally I'm much higher on Bello than those two, results aside. I think Crawford would be better in the bullpen. I'm not really sure Winckowski has MLB stuff to stick on a roster. I think he's more of a swingman up/down guy. Bello might be special, and I'm sure those words are going to get some posters all hot and bothered because he's not immediately pitching like Roger CLemens.
  13. This is exactly why I get a kick out of posters who seem angry when a young pitcher is demoted instead of just booted from the organization. There's a reason why teams don't give up on talent so quickly.
  14. Well that was kind of my point with Lopez, often times elite relief pitching is garbage finds for years, and then all of a sudden they put it together for a few years. You can either pay a boatload for a guy who could revert back to a pumpkin in a year or two, or perhaps you can invest in your scouting department and see if you can be more efficient at finding these guys. Maybe it's the quality of your pitching coaches and you think you can take someone and tinker with them a bit and correct a flaw that you see holding them back from greatness. I'll admit, I didn't know who Lopez was before the middle of this year. Going back and looking at his stat line, and it's amazing how absolutely AWFUL he was for such a long time. He'd the prototypical guy who is 28, was a top 100 prospect in all of baseball who just can't put it together. He would have been the worse player on this team any other year of his career before this year and the most hated player on this board. Pre 2022 of course.
  15. You don't think Bello has the stuff to be a good pitcher? Is this because of his stuff? fastball/change up/ slider? Or because you're frustrated he's not Roger Clemens after his first 5 MLB starts as a 22 year old?
  16. That' a fair point, there are some in here who probably make me look like the biggest pollyanna on earth.
  17. I'm not sure the put Bleis above Bello, Bleis isn't even playing right now. I also don't think Rafaela is going to jump above Mata, they like Rafaela but they're a little bit more skeptical on them than the national ranking outlets are (who all have him higher). Mata's biggest knock from the early days was not having a plus pitch, he threw everything OK with a good feel for pitching. Now that his velicity has ticked up into the high 90's he has a much higher ceiling than Rafaela and he's at a higher level. I also don't see them dropping Yorke that much, I think they're confident his injuries were a big hamper on his production. I can see Anthony jumping up to 10, he's been a monster at the plate. Could skyrocket next year.
  18. Right, because he doesn't have the greatest stat line after starting 5 games in the major league level as a 22-year-old who was in A ball just last year he has no future. Great insight. I get it's a frustrating season, but just because a guy comes up and isn't an immediate all star doesn't mean he doesn't have a promising future. FWIW, Soxprospects has Bello as the #3 prospect. I think he finds his way into the rotation next year.
  19. I wouldn’t say I’m an excessively optimistic person
  20. Like first pitch if the game, ball one “ohhhhh here we go”
  21. I think a lot of people wanted to see another arm added to the bullpen, I think they thought Barnes would be better, he was an all star last year who looked like he had closers stuff but then he fell apart. Bullpen arms are volatile like that, sometimes in the opposite direction…..like Lopez, who was god awful before this year. If we traded for him at the beginning of the season Bloom would have been criticized, at least then. Maybe we need a better scouting department.
  22. I didn’t say you were, but that’s how the twins got their closer.
  23. Sure thing, I certainly didn’t expect euphoric joy and love.
  24. No problem giving up a top ten prospect for an elite closer. But is this really the year to do that? Your team sucks. It’s like playing blackjack and doubling down on your 5 when the dealer is showing a 10. Nothing wrong with doubling down….but not there….not in that place. I’m not sure I’d you were one I’d the people upset we didn’t get a closer at the deadline or not, maybe I shouldn’t make assumptions
  25. I hardly ever go to these game day threads, read it for curious reasons this morning. It’s everything I expected it to be.
