  1. Teams will posture to get a better deal, but the Sox should not fold either. They lack outfield depth but in total the position side is less problematic. Spending too many resources there is unwise.
  2. If NY loses out on Judge they enter the SS market. The price for Bogaerts goes up.
  3. I was under the assumption Casas and Rafaela are headlining that trade+++
  4. If they insist on Casas for Reynolds, and I don’t have to add Bello,Mayer, Bleis then maybe I fold if they throw Bednar in.
  5. Now so it without Casas too.
  6. Right now we don’t know. But I would t be surprised if we learn of one other team, maybe a few other teams offering DeGrom the same money but at 4 years. Texas upped the Anti and won the deal. I have a hard time believing a team offering him 4 wouldn’t go 5, maybe they did but wanted less AAV. If we learn the answer to these questions….it may not be tonight.
  7. It only takes one, which is why most FA deals always feel like an overpay. There’s nothing wrong with being rational and trying to maximize value but at some point you at least have to be the least rational guy by going an extra year or paying a few million a more than the other team if you want to bring in premium players. Maybe Bloom has it in him and has never been in this position before or maybe he really doesn’t want to make these types of moves. If it’s the later I hope Henry tells Bloom to grow some balls and make a splash. Or perhaps the problem is all Henry, this off-season will be very telling.
  8. I’d gladly give up Rafaela though, who I like. There are big questions about his hit tool, but his slut speed and his elite defensive give him a high floor. If the Pirates believe in the hit tool Rafaela could possibly headline a package.
  9. I highly doubt it, nobody is valuing that much more. They all know a lot about these kids and they know what their assets are worth. The thing here is, we have perfect example of this in the Chris Sale trade. It took some serious prospect capital to pull that trade off
  10. They haven’t succeeded with other teams either
  11. I get that argument, but Casas isn’t a far away prospect, he looks poised to be a producer next year. It’s very reasonable to assume Casas will be just as good offensively as Reynolds and his ceiling is someone better. If I’m depleting my farm….it’s for picthing, not a sideways move now with a player who has more team years and could even bet better with the bat.
  12. I think Dalbec is a better fit in that we return a coat controlled MLB player with good offensive ceiling. Obviously we need to add prospects to that offer that entice Pitt. Maybe Dalbec/Yorke/Perales gets it done. Or Dalbec/Rafaela/Perales.
  13. And what if Casas is better? As a hit first first base prospect the .842 ops bar isn’t that high.
  14. If I’m trading Casas it better be for a pitcher. He’s a potential middle of the order bat who appears to be MLB ready. Trading him for an OF just seems like a sideways move. I’m trying to move forward.
  15. Yes it would, but every team with a cost controlled ACE hangs up on you.
  16. But you’re not going to get a cost controlled ACE for Mayer plus lower lever prospect. You will need 3 high end guys. Mayer/Bleis/Bello. Is the type of package a team will ask for, maybe Mayer/Bleis/Casas For a team that’s rebuilding maybe you can sell them on Duran/Dalbec/Mayer/Bleis/Perales. Look at the Sale trade. We traded three top prospects. TWO of them being Marcelo Mayer level top 25 prospect with Moncada being #1 in all of baseball. Without the #1 prospect in all of baseball I expect the 2-3 guy in the trade to have to be better, that mens you can’t dip below the 8-12 range.
  17. Lol I was half still on Josh Taylor. Good catch though
  18. Let’s say Bogey is resigned for 27 per, great, you still for cash left. Let’s also not discount how much injury hurt last years team. A clean bill of health + a few good moves will equal a much better result. I expect rookies like Casas and Bello to make contributions as well. We can’t discount guys coming up from the farm if we are going to count the guys walking out the door too.
  19. Reportedly Eflin wanted to stay home. Who knows, maybe staying on the east coast would have been enticing to DeGrome and he would have stayed here for the same money. The point is the same, 99% of the time you have to match or beat everyone else’s offer to sign said player.
  20. Ehhh, that’s such a cup half empty take though. That’s still money you have to spend. Is it really crazy to believe we could get more than we got out of Eovaldi last year for $18 million? Or more than we got for JDM for $20? Regardless it will be his team. And big name(s) will be (re)signed. Which was my point.
  21. It’s funny how the people who complain the most about moves being made complain about the price when it’s made. DeGrome is too easy because he signed with the Rangers but just imagine the madness in here if he signed with the Sox for 190/5. Because if we were to sign him we’d have to outbid Texas. They have the luxury of complaining about Bloom sleeping on him but we all know damn well they’d be all up in arms at the exuberant overpay for him of Boston decided to go that route.
  22. Do people actually think these numbers are just pulled out of a hat? Imagine bidding on an object on eBay. Starting bid is $10 then it goes up to $11 then it’s $12. You swoop in and buy it for $13. You have to outbid every single team. The Sox either got him at a much lower AAV by adding the second year, or there were multiple teams offering a two year but had a million less in AAV. Sox won a bid, that’s all there is to understand about the market.
  23. Which means they’re overdue. When’s the last time they were $100 million under the cap? The Sox think longer than our short term memories. I don’t think it’s a bloom/DD thing. It’s a John Henry thing. Bloom has never been given the chance to spend, until this year.
  24. I mean, If you were hired by an organization to be director of operations/GM and you looked at the teams history of developing pitchers vs developing hitters wouldnt you go position player too? You can always trade from depth, early reports on Romero is he’s a stud, oh no big problem. If Mayer is the real deal too you can always trade Romero for something you need OR move him to another position. I’m actually very optimistic about the bullpen, almost never does everything break right but here are a few things that could happen only looking inside the organization. Barnes, from August 1st on last year he looked like his old self. If that carries into 2023 the bullpen looks much better. Josh Taylor is back and healthy and a very effective LHRP. Schreiber has a 2023 that looks very much like his 2022. Zach Taylor looks good and showed a lot of promise during his call up to Boston. Does he emerge as a guy? Houck - what is he? We know he is good, but If ge can take one more step forward as a 26 year old in a defined role could he become a lights out late inning arm? All the ingredient’s are there. The young arms looking to come up mid season intrigue me much more this year than last year, minus Bello of course. Mata could be really really good in a pen, I’d also like to see the Sox transition some of these grungy starters into bullpen roles (like wink and Crawford). This is NOT an argument against more bullpen moves. I just believe there is plenty of room for internal growth and that’s a good thing.
