What pitcher should he have taken at 4? mozzicato? Bachman? Lawlar is twice the prospect as both those arms and a stud. There were some who thought Lawlar could of been better than Mayer and was a candidate to go 1-1.

Lawlar looks like a stud too. It might be fun watching him and Mayer pick it for years to come

Prospects will break your heart. Top prospects fail, and sometimes they become stars. I get the frustration, I wasn’t overly impressed with the depth of starting pitching in the system either last year after Bello. The rest of those guys strike me as swing men, BOTRS, and relievers. Would love to see Perales take a step forward this year. The latest Soxprospects episode said If he wasn’t so far away from the majors he’s easily be the #1 pitching prospect in the system. That’s nice, but the Sox need a win on the pitching prospect development front, and some serious changes need to be made in how they get and or develop pitching talent. Prospects won’t help us in 2023z

No they do not, but they do have a few guys you can dream on. Might be nice for a change to see a few arms come up to follow Bello, because it seems that all the farm has provided in recent years with pitching has been nightmares.

Ward and Song can’t start. We don’t even know if Song can pitch.

At this point I’d rather see wink in the rotation. Honestly, for this type of performance they’d be better off letting Bellow and Whitlock ramp up at the MLB level.

Wong probably caught a lot of these guys in the minors. McGuire has no experience with either of them but more mlb experience to work with the veterans. Kind of makes sense actually

This has pretty much been my line of thinking for a while. A healthy Sale and Kluber can be a big lift for this rotation. If Whitlock and Bello can pitch like to young studs in a rotation with the talent we know they have that can be a big lift for this rotation. If all those things happen, then this rotation might be....dare I say....Knock on every piece of wood you can find, really really good. I'll take 3 out of 4.

I said that about Winks stuff too in the past. I think his stuff has taken a step forward, I don't think he's great or going to be a superstar or really even close. But I'm much more convinced he has an MLB career ahead of him. He might be fine as a swingman/ middle relief type here for a few years. I have a feeling we are going to see more of him this year. I think he's going to be on that Woo-Sox shuttle all year.

I can really see both sides of the argument here. I think it would be nice of the military to make exceptions for players who have a chance of having an extraordinary career. On the other hand, its' not the United States Armed forces to be concerned with our entertainment but rather protect us. I can totally understand and respect that making an exception for someone to leave their commitment isn't a top priority for them. I have no complaints either way.

I suppose it comes down to how much do you believe in him being a starter. Because he definitely needs a few years to ramp it up, and if his talent wasn't diminished (which we have no ideal about now) why wouldn't you want him as a starter?

I think in 2024 he splits time in low high a. Now he has two years of ramping up under his belt. 2025 becomes the year that if EVERYTHING breaks right maybe he's knocking on the door by season's end. YOu figure him to be a MLBer by 2026

It's a LONG season. How often has a team started off bad and kicked into high gear to make an October run? and vis versa. Regardless, it's never a bad thing to get off to a good start.

I never really pay attention, this year I will. Maybe we should start a contest in here. Who can guess the date they switch from 2022 stats to 2023 stats.

I was actually just thinking about this the other day. At what point is it time to stop showing 2022 numbers and put 2023 numbers up there? the second series? the second week? 10 days? 14 days? Is there a specific threshold or is it just arbitrary?

The only good thing about looking at stats this early is the hilarity of how unsustainable they are. I mean, maybe Tampa goes 162-0, Adam Duvall will hit 108 Home Runs, score 382 times and knock in 432 runs. Wander Franco is on pace to be the first .600 hitter in baseball!!!!!!!! Can you guys believe Alex Bregman is looking to strike ou 283 times this year? Jeffery Sprints will strike out 384 batters in just 194 innings without surrendering one hit the ENTIRE YEAR!!!!

I’m pretty unimpressed by CERA, I think it’s a good reason to penalize good catchers when the guy throwing to them is laying eggs. By all accounts McGuire is a good defensive catcher. The question mark with him will be his bat.

But I’m glad there seems to be some momentum for the rules needing to be fixed here. Perhaps, the curious case of Noah Song will be the things that pushes MLB to change the rules.

Yeah he could have, or he could not of. It’s like jumping into and exercise program after being out of shape for a while, which has happened to me more than once in life. A few of those times I hurt myself, I hurt myself thinking i could pick up where I left off. When I started off slow and built my way up, I didn’t get hurt. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I’d be willing to bet if I did, that following a proper shoulder strengthening program for a few months before throwing off a mound would have led to a healthy Song. The Phillies didn’t do that, and the exact thing happened to him that a slow build up is suppose to prevent. That’s a bad look.
