    Yeah, I can get on board with this. I have concerns with the pitching, but I also see some good there and I have a lot of faith they can be better and good this year. Yes, a lot can go wrong there too if they get the injury bug but I think it could be an asset. But I'm not sure there's much hope for this defense.

    No it's not. If that's your bar, Rafaela could do that now. But he should still be developing and I expect Kike to hit much better than .083. With Duvall out and the defense HORRIBLE, I wouldn't mind seeing Kike go back to CF and the Sox get someone who can field SS at SS.

    I think it's a bad assumption either way. I wouldn't be surprised either way. If all it is, is a broken bone then it's not that bad of an assumption. Bones heal, but things get more complicated when tendons and ligements are involved or a bone is shattered. If it's just a small break, which the timeline they've provided eludes too, it might not be that bad and he should be making a full recovery and through a rehab assignment in just a couple months.

    I'll admit an injury to the same wrist is not a good look. But not all injuries are created equal. YOu can break a bone, where 1 CM to the right could have done more extensive soft tissue damage. If it's JUST a broken bone, he should come back fine in 2 months. The reality is we just don't know. It's a bad assumption to make either way

    You completely missed my point, I'm not the best at conveying mine so that's on me and let me reiterate. I'm not disagreeing with you at all, just merely pointing out that all teams don't have a top prospect in the high minors at every position. Taking one position and saying we don't have just top prospects at that position AND in the high minors ready to take over is not an indictment on a team's system. The Sox should have known this and done better to build depth at that position, to be fair that wasn't helped by a lot of injuries. Still it's not a good look.

    I'm not willing to be this is going to be a good team, but I will be willing to be in a few months from now if they're not good.....it won't be because of the offense. You can book that.

    Well the Sox have one of the top prospects in all of the baseball playing SS, just because they don't have a guy at a specific position MLB-ready doesn't mean the farm is weak. Are the supposed to have an MLB ready top prospects at every position in AAA. No one even has anything close to that.

    Well you're making my point. It's been a long time since the Sox have had a bad offense, they've always scored runs. Even when they had the 4th worse record in baseball in 2020 they were still 11th in runs scored. In recent years their struggles have been with some combination of Defense, starting pitching, and relief pitching. As you pointed out a few guys have carried the offense, so what, in a month from now those guys can regress back to the mean, but that's a two-way street. Guys like Casas, Kike, Turner, and Arroyo. Also, we might be surprised by what Mondesi and Story contribute too. By the end of a 162 games season, it's been a long time since the offense has really been a big problem. So, I'll revert back to my point. I'm not concerned about the offense. Now the defense scares me, and the pitching still has me very skeptical as well.

    We are 7th in MLB in runs scored. Even last year we were 9th, 5th the year before, and even 11th in all of MLB during 2020 when we were arguably the worse team in baseball. The lineup could use some upgrades, but it's obvious not TOO thin.

    We came into this series playing over .500 to a team on a historic run that hasn't lost one game yet. I'm not going to freak out over two losses. The team looked promising before these two games, these two games don't change that. Tip of the hat to Tampa, I won't be surprised if this is their year. Also, I won't be surprised if we are sweeping THEM come September.

    I think he will be fine at 2nd, I'm just hoping his bat comes back or at least it doesn't take him long to shake off the rust.

    They want to keep him stretched out as a starter. It's a long season, what are the odds all our pitchers stay healthy? If a few guys surpass him on the depth chart I could see him as tradeable or moved to the pen down the stretch if is looking good. Cutter is the first guy up as soon as they need a starter.

    One might be forgiven for thinking JBJ had a much more productive career in front of him after his 2016 campaign.

    I think he could have, but maybe not, we will never know. A lot of times a GM is working under a mandate, DD was a perfect example of this. Despite his reputation, if you go back far enough he was the guy who hoarded prospects, filled up a farm, and didn't make the big blockbuster. Under Henry's direction, or perhaps on his own Ben may have come to the conclusion that it was time to switch direction and add to the MLB team with a big piece. I don't believe in this, but wouldn't be surprised if that's how things went if he had stayed here too. Maybe we never win in 2018, maybe Ben trades for someone else who stays healthy over Sale and the team doesn't get broken up in 2020....who knows.

    The irony is Ben got a lot of criticism around here, but he by far and large built the team that went on that 2016-2019 run that saw a WS dominant year in 2018. I mean, those teams were heavily Ben, and people to this day still give it to DD......who definitely added the pieces to put that team over the top in 2018. Credit where credit is due. Still, this illustrates how the typical fan has a recency bias. We all do to some extent.

    I think that was the original plan, although the Sox seemed content with Story starting SS this year supposedly, although I suspect that was only temporary until Mayer was ready. Still I think that was their back up plan when they failed to resign Bogaerts. They may have been comfortable at SS, but I think they definitely signed him to be the full time 2nd.

    I don't overreact. Except maybe those few times I overreacted in the past, but we are not going to talk about those times. That's not how I'm remembering this....I don't over react.

    Alcantara is getting some helium. Guys who I think have the capacity to make giant leaps this year. Perales Anthony Alcantara Noah Dean Cespedes Rodriguez-Cruz If you told me one of these guys crawls into a top 100 list this year I'd believe you.

    At that point in time he had an identical career OPS to Bogaerts, and played up the middle D. He was a massive upgrade at 2nd. Or at least he should have been. Yeah, it’s not Mike Trout, but when the team has money to spend and gaping holes that’s a big move. Big is subjective, I get it.

    Ort actually wasn't that bad his last two times out. He still has much to prove.

    Did it? We had a hole at 2nd base and he was at the time a premium free agent on a good deal. It was an upgrade in the mold that we often desire here. The problem is it's been a s*** signing so far.
