  1. In a sense Red….you kind of just made the argument that Yoshida should be much better than Suzuki and his .770 ops. Which means he should be a great MLB player. Thank you
  2. Yoshida plays in a different league than Suzuki, same league Ichiro came from that is considered more advanced with much better pitching. Also wouldn’t discount that Suzuki could get better as rookies do sometimes. It’s also not like he was horrible, he put up a .770 OPS
  3. You effectively just made the same exact argument I made about Benintendi. Congratulations we agreed on something.
  4. Different market, Yoshida was a free agent. We’ve seen PLENTY of talent come over from Japan and succeed over the years, I listed pro guys too. Nomo, Tanaka, Ichiro, Ohtani. Should the Sox just ignore the international market because a guy might bust? Bogey has nothing to do with this conversation, he has no bearing on whether or not the international market should be pursued.
  5. Thought of the morning. It was argued back here some time ago, but I can’t remember who I had the disagreement with. That Kike Hernandez was a good extension, and he would have got substantially more if he went to free agency than 10/1 year. I think this years FA class has proven my point. Kike looks like a steal now.
  6. Should the Sox ignore international markets then? Surely the likes of Bogaerts, Devers, Bello, and others in the pipeline have been enough to excite the fans?
  7. I dont think it matters either way, our perception as fans doesn’t change the outcome.
  8. One could also say until Yoshida proves he can’t hit MLB pitching he’s Abreu? I suppose your cup is either half empty, or half full.
  9. I’m fairly certain professional scouts have a much better ideal how a players skill sets will transfer over to mlb better than we do
  10. So then we should just not trust our evaluators and sign anyone? Also, there’s been turn over in the organization since then, also…even the best scouts miss on guys and the worse get lucky. You’re literally trying to guess the future trajectory of a human being.
  11. Neither did Ichiro, Tanaka, Nomo, Ohtani, Matsui, Darvish, plus others. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t explore those markets. If your people believe in someone and you can get them at a price you’re comfortable with you do it.
  12. We are splitting hairs with a differential of 1 war or less. I’m not saying Beni stinks or I’ll be surprised if he has a year mirroring his 2018, I just wouldn’t be surprised if he trends downward either.
  13. This is a fair point, however it’s worth noting for the past 4 years Benis production has dropped off and his speed diminished. He’s still a valuable player but he’s not the guy he was in 2018. He is also what he did in 2019-2022. Can he at least be that guy? Rebound? or is he in decline?
  14. Isn’t Brian Anderson (saved from Swanson) the highest WAR position player left on the FA market? Unless a trade is brewing, Broom certainly missed the boat.
  15. This years FA market is cementing a truth that has been bubbling for a while now. FA is for filling the holes, or overpaying for teams already established and “going” for it. Locking guys up early is the way to go. The Sox were late to this party, and the consequences seen through Bogey and to some extent Devers (because even if they extend him now it will be at or close to market prices). The Whitlock extension last year was a good sign they have taken note, but they will need to continue to do so. Next up may be Bello/Casas. Who can wait until next year for some extensions, but if they wait 3-4 years it will be too late.
  16. We’ve seen many different Benis recently, he could easily justify that contract, or he could easily not be much more than a .700 ops guy for the remainder of his career
  17. Let’s see who is better.
  18. Could be traded for someone better than Lobo
  19. Seems to me we are overdue
  20. He’s a great defender with some pop, would love a platoon with him and Rfs in Right. Let Verdugo stay in LF and Yoshida can DH a lot.
  21. Just because someone has rope doesn’t mean they’re not at the end of it. At some point the Sox will move on from Dhen. Could easily be during the next few weeks
  22. Max Kepler is available
  23. Yeah, they’re hoarding depth, as everyone does to varying lengths. Teams all over baseball have guys like Darwinzon, they either figure it out or they don’t. Sometimes teams give up on them and the Red Sox turn them into Andrew Miller. Talent…that’s why they get rope
  24. Also wouldn’t hate Yoshida/Kike/Verdugo outfield either. Would really like a bench bat who can pick in the OF though and an upgrade at DH in that case. Not much left out there
  25. Twins are shopping Max Kepler. Probably actually gives you what I was dreaming JBJ was. Good defense in right, probably hits much better against righties in 2023. Hosmer gone opens up DH for Yoshida, who I think could get some reps in LF and DH.
