  1. I just watched the video. No, he said "I was very surprised by this deal" he did not say he was shocked by the amount of money he got. That could mean a lot of things, he was also saying it through a translator, and things do not translate 100% I married into a Colombian family and now I'm dating a Brazilian who speaks very little English. So I actually have some real-life experience on this.
  2. If they’re extending all those guys they probably still have JBJ too and the payroll is around 280-300 million. No pitching, weaker farm, better offense. I posted this yesterday, in this scenario they probably don’t sign Story and have Kike at 2nd
  3. Sox didn’t like him because they thought he was strictly a reliever. Would love to have that one back.
  4. They could still really use a SP/IF/RF. Starting to wonder if we even get two of those.
  5. If the Sox sign Rodon or Swanson then because they went over the luxury tax they would lose two picks; their 2nd and 5th highest pick (and the bonus pool money with it. And they would would lose $1 million in IFA money. Also they picks they will gain from Bogaerts/Eovaldi signing elsewhere are reduced from 2nd round picks to 4th round picks. They couldn’t just trade JDM.
  6. To be fair, I would welcome a Swanson signing, he probably makes a Devers resigning make more sense (of course Henry and company have to pay up). Swanson is fine at SS now, but when he loses a step he will move to 2nd. Unlike Bogey who probably needs to move to 3B much sooner. If Story is playing at a high level it’s a great problem to have
  7. It doesn’t matter who he is, but fans will be pissed when he signs elsewhere
  8. I get it it sucks, prospects will break your heart. NO one can predict a human beings future with precision. Think how the White Sox felt trading away Sale for the #1 prospect in all of baseball? Bloom could have done better than Downs and that guy still could have bust. To be fair, Verdugo was part of that trade too and he’s no slouch. Yes, he’s no Betts either but we traded away 1 year of control for 5 of him. There’s real value in that.
  9. Someone claims him….it’s whatever at this point. Anyone you sign at this point is going to result probably losing someone to being DFAd
  10. 6 days ago I would have said Correa, but yes Swanson fits the bill of an overcompensation.
  11. It has been said the League Yoshida is in has better pitching and a step above where Suzuki came over from.
  12. Better to be a smart ass than a dumbass.
  13. 95% of the time a player is signing with a team that is either offering him the most money or something very close to it and they make a personal decision to go somewhere, like home. Anyone and everyone in the know who follows baseball would agree with that statement. How many people offered Judge more money? I know one team did but reportedly MLB was ready to nix the deal. SO maybe Judge was going to take the most money but took what was guaranteed. But everyone knows this is generally how free agency works. OR ANY BIDDING MARKET?!!! ever hear of capitalism? have an ebay account? ever big on something before? this is how a market system works. Ground breaking stuff....I know.
  14. You don't care so much but you care enough to respond...OKAY. Dude, stop with this "all opinions matter" bs. That's a two way street, you give a stupid opinion expect a response. Some people have the "opinion" that the world is flat, some people have the opinion that Sandy Hook was a "hoax" do those people not deserve to be called out on their bull? All opinions are not created equal. Having the opinion that Bloom is a lousy G.M. is a perfectly defensible position. No gripes there, but in this particular case your opinion has no logical basis to it....it's just old man yells at clouds.......on a sunny day.
  15. I don’t know…but it just is.
  16. Breaking News - Player signs with team who offers most money. What’s next? Stone tools???
  17. Dude....this is pure 100% conjecture on your half. You can't just make s*** up and expect people to respect your argument. Even if it was true, so f***ing what. You do an analysis, you trust your people, and you offer what you think someone is worth and you don't look back. I can respect that. But if you think the Sox didn't have an idea what other people thought of him and wanted to offer him you're delusional. I mean put the crack pipe down and think for you second. You really think Bloom can be this penny-pinching heartless soul unwilling to sign anyone if it's a cent above his value line but then he just goes out and blindly throws $100 million at someone. Even a very incompetent man often follows some kind of logic or pattern, this does not, you're inventing an argument based on ZERO information. just stop dude.
  18. Actually to be fair a percentage of revenues that are pulled from teams into a pool does goes to player benefits.
  19. They're already doing revenue sharing now, only between the billionaire owners and not the labor.
  20. But what is the MLB average for a DH/1B?
  21. They could also do some sort of revenue sharing with players.
  22. That type of change would be interesting. As we know with big changes always comes resistance, some people would hate it and others would love it. Personally, I think baseball needs more of a HARD cap, perhaps a salary floor needs to be implemented too. A team that receives revenue sharing should not be allowed to go as low as Tampa for example.
  23. This of long-term contracts makes one ponder. Are these teams banking on the luxury tax line being much higher at the end term of these contracts? in ten years from now the lowest threshold may be $300 million. I keep thinking about the whole structure of the CBA in general; the luxury tax limits, the extra loss of draft picks and reduced value of picks gained from exceeding such thresholds, revenue sharing, loss of international spending money, and the competitive balance compensation draft picks. All of these structures have been put in place to keep big market teams such as LA and NY from being able to dominate the game. If these teams decide to just blow past these thresholds and that leads to lopsided success then I have to believe harsher penalties are coming in the future. Harsher penalties? or perhaps even a hard cap like the NFL. That may be the fairest and most interesting. However the next CBA isn't up for 5 years. There was plenty of talent in this market that could have had for 5 years or less. The whole middle starting pitcher market (with upside) signed for 5 years or less and to date the Sox have not added one starter.
  24. I would have called myself crazy a month ago but I can see him getting 225/9 225/10 now
  25. What are everyone’s thoughts on signing Rodon to 200/6? Otherwise the best option is between Eovaldi/Kluber. Who will be much cheaper
