  1. I will drive him to the airport.
  2. Yamamoto has to take a physical before any deal is finalized. Probably not an issue, but not terribly unlikely something comes up as we've seen this before. Between that and travel time you'd think he would need some time and leway in there from that January 4th deadline. I really really really doubt Yamamoto takes this all the way up to January 4th, I think it's done before christmas. Then again, I thought we'd know by yesterday morning where he would sign.
  3. If the Sox were serious they should be right up there with LA and the Mets, but apparently the Yankees are in it too. Which is interesting because they're going to go over the last threshold of the luxury tax limit, and a Yamamoto contract would put them above the limit for a 4th year in 2025. Maybe they can get under if they don't resign Soto. Also, the Yankees reportedly won't match LA or the Mets with money but are still confident in their chances. Does this mean they're just arrogant? or they know something we don't? like Yamamoto is a Yankees fan and secretly wants to sign with them.
  4. Sox are allegedly exploring a trade for Corbin Burnes. If they traded for Burnes AND signed Montgomery that could still be filed under "full throttle" in my book. ADD: a RHH 2nd baseman. It's christmas afterall
  5. To be fair, that would be a very nice consolation prize, especially if you add in a trade for a good RHH 2B. The Sox can hang their hats up and take that to the fans and say that they're working hard to improve the team. There's obviously still time to have a great offseason, even if they miss out on Yamamoto, but the clock is ticking. As Rosenthal said "put up or shut up"
  6. Me if the Red Sox get Yama: "I told you, I called it all along, this guy is going to be a BEAST, an ACE!!!!! FULL THROTTLE" Me if the Yankees get Yama: "pffffft, the dude is like 5'10" and we know those guys don't age well" good luck paying him $30 per year when he's broken down"
  7. Red Sox don't have to win the offseason, but they have to perform much much better in 2024. And I just don't know how they do that without some roster reconstruction. I think Breslow deserves a year or two to truly assess what type of POBO he can be, but it's not a good look for him and even more so for John Henry at this point if they don't make any big moves this offseason. John Henry deserves to be booed. Like, someone needs to tweet about his whereabouts 24/7 the same way that kid did to Elon Musk and it needs to be a constant stream of Boos everywhere he goes for life until he grows some balls or sells the team. Ok, maybe that's a little too much. I'm still holding out hope for Yama, and ultimately I won't really complain until the season begins because so much can still happen from here until there. But one can be forgiven for getting a little worried that this teams offseason performance will be flaccid.
  8. I mean, at this point, I’d take even a little throttle
  9. Note to self: Stop believing Marino Pepen.
  10. And he’d be paying 80 million a year for a 30 million dollar pitcher. It’s not exchange rates, Cohen is paying double the price as everyone else because he incurs every single penalty.
  11. Apparently he’s doing a second round of interviews and accepted an invitation to visit Fenway. Allegedly the Sox also told Yamamoto they would be willing to up their offer. Not surprised Yamamoto is meeting with everyone, I’d do the same thing if I was in his shoes. Honestly, I think the Dodgers are more of a risk than the NY teams. They have the wallets, and unlike the other two NY teams their luxury tax situation isn’t complete crap
  12. Every penny the Mets spend now has every surcharge on it. That plus posting fees. Henry can’t match Cohene budget, but he doesn’t have too.
  13. People are underestimating how expensive Yamamoto will be to the Mets. He could cost Cohen close $700 million when it’s all said and done with the posting fees and all the taxes
  14. I’ll be willing to wager anyone $1,000 Yen that Yamamoto signs here.
  15. People can say whatever they want about Boras, but he’s a very good agent. And that means at times telling his clients “this probably your best offer you should take this”
  16. It happens fairly often, just never on this scale. And it probably never will for a long time. Ohtani is different, both as a player and as a marketable asset. He made $40 million in endorsements last year, the next two highest were Trout and Judge at $5 and $6 million. If those guys did what Ohtani did they’d be making what a bench bat does. Ohtani however? Still a 40 million dollar player. Crazy
  17. Your guess is as good as mine.
  18. Jim Bowden now reporting both the Red Sox and Giants have offers over $300 and both are making a strong push for Yamamoto
  19. Marino Pepen reporting that the Red Sox have an offer on the table for Yamamoto worth over $300 million.
  20. So hes' effectively about as fragile than Sale. Wonder who gets more IP in 2024.
  21. Not hearing much of anything. Say what you will about the Sox, but this FO runs a tight ship.
  22. Here are my odds. Red Sox 99% Giants/Mets/Yankees/Mets/Cubs/Phillies/Braves/Angels/Blue Jays/ 1%
  23. Allegedly he's meeting with the Red Sox last, and he's pretty much met with everyone at this point. It's coming down to decision time. I think the Sox have a MUCH better shot at him than a lot think.
  24. If I was a betting man I'd say Yamamoto is about to sign, and we will know by Monday. Just a hunch
  25. That can work to your advantage as well. I've done a lot of hiring, and I always feel like I get a recency bias. Someone can blow me away at the begining of an interviewing process and then I find someone at the end I fall in love with. Of course, this is why I do a second round of interviews. I think the Sox have every opportunity to win this thing if they want to.
