  1. Also, let me add, that $17 million for ONE YEAR is not stopping the Sox from signing Montgomery, Snell, Stroman, or whoever. Whatever dollar amount they figure to offer them is not going to be affected by this trade in any way. The Chris Sale money and bringing in another pitcher are mutually exclusive. This is pretty obvious
  2. Lol That’s 100% conjecture. You have zero evidence of that, teams throw in money all the time. Breslow, and the Sox are connected to the inside world more than me and you. They have a very good ideal what these teams are willing to spend and what their budgets are. Why do you care so much that the Braves paid more than they did? What advantage is that to the Sox? This is exactly what I’m talking about. You’re making things up to hate the trade, because you’re a cynic.
  3. Soxprospects does it about better than anyone else, I find that a little surprising too though. I bet they’d be the first to admit they’re wrong. I can see that being adjusted again before spring training.
  4. Irrelevant. The money was a sunk cost, it was already being paid. The only way to reduce that money would be to take a lesser player in return. But what do you care? You’ve usually been in the “it’s not my money” camp. You can’t like the trade and hate the trade at the same time. Pick a stance, if you don’t like the money kicked in, then at least acknowledge that you’re getting no value back in return. Instead you got 6 years of control for a 22 year old highly regarded prospect. Pretty much everyone across baseball, including the Red Sox biggest critics, haven given them very high marks for this trade. You seem to be one of the only people on earth who does not like it. That’s why I think you’re being cynical https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/chris-sale-trade-grades-braves-red-sox-both-get-a-marks-in-vaughn-grissom-swap-for-oft-injured-ace/amp/
  5. Idk, we’re not allowed to talk about it apparently. More important things to talk about.
  6. Lol what? No offense, but it feels like you will create anything up just to insult every move this team makes. Which is odd, because one would think you’d need zero help given this teams recent performance.
  7. Then, and only then, he will be a great manager in LA
  8. Seems logical, I would throw Yorke in with the Duran/Abreu/Rafaela crowd of guys who may be getting moved
  9. Oh thank god, now we can go back to talking about the things that really matter. Like AAA pitching free agents and minor catching depth signings.
  10. Right, there’s so many more important things to talk about in January during this exciting action packed off season.
  11. Lol it’s not like these are earth shattering things, just because we are talking about them. What else we got to talk about?
  12. Dalbec is the guy getting the call of Casas goes down and you need to call someone up for a few weeks But who plays 1B when you just want to give him a day off? Or he’s ejected? Or taken out of a game. You need a back up first baseman on the 26 man. And there’s zero room for Dalbec on the 26 man.
  13. Giolito and Wacha could easily provide similar value next year. But Giolitos upside is much much higher than Wachas.
  14. I thought Reddit said he was signing with Boston this week. I can’t believe “trust me bro” didn’t come thru
  15. According to @redsoxpayroll the number is closer to 33 million. Which is hypothetically enough for one big swing in FA if they wanted Snell or Monty. If you believe they are willing to go over for the right guy, they have 53 million to the next threshold. They could easily move Jansens money if the wanted. All this means nothing, because I don’t think they think Snell and Monty are good long term options
  16. I can't dispute these facts.
  17. I still can't get over hearing that he was hit with a divorce last summer. Right around the time he was traded. If you look at his number from Chicago vs. everywhere else he looked like 2 different pitchers. I know nothing, but if his performance down the stretch was due to personal issues, and he got right, I have to think we get the Giolito from the first 2/3 of the season. And that version looked more like a front-line starter than the guy who pitched down the stretch. So I'm convinced his performance issues were mental, and not due to injury or decline. If he can get right, I believe he will be good. Sox could really really really use someone who offers the same upside as Giolito with more certainty, but in a vacuum, I like Giolito if he can get his head right.
  18. He won't be laughing when revenues take a hit. You can live off of your past success, but not in perpetuity, I think this is the year he really starts to feel it if the organization doesn't turn things around. This also makes him look really dumb. Look at the front page of his website. The Red Sox sucking makes him look dumb and hurts his brand. Fenway Sports Group
  19. I had a hard time believing a professional organization could "accidentally go over, I always figured they made the decision to go for it, which was very peculiar considering the bought and sold. Regardless, it was very telling that Bloom supposedly had a budget of 225 million last year. Intestinally 8 million below the cap. It was almost as if Ownership was saying, you're an idiot, we don't trust you so we are putting your budget below the tax line so you can't eff this up.
  20. It's also about how they spend. They went over the cap as recently as two years ago now but it's because they spend $10-$20 million on many players for a year or two, and never take a big swing at the big fish. John Henry effectively got burned by David Price, and then Dave talked him into Chris Sale and he got burned again. Now he has decided that he will never dance again. He's effectively become an incel of the sports ownership world.
  21. The reality is. There isn't a silver bullet to fix this team, realistically a good plan wouldn't view this year as the "be-all-end-all" and I certainly don't want any freak out impulsive buys just to look good. However, they're in this position because of years of tightening up and lack of conviction in the market from Bloom to Henry. Are only hope is that Breslow is really really good at his job. And it will probably take him more than one season to turn this organization around.
  22. Devers has also been much better defensively in the past than he was last year. If he could be coached up to play first base, why not coach him up to get his defense back up to par at 3B.? Maybe having a consistent partner who is good defensively on the right side all year can help.
  23. Right. This is why I don’t trade Mayer for pitching this offseason.
  24. There's definitely a version of the future where Story gets traded, and maybe even brings back something of value. If Grissom hits and can field second and Mayer isn't traded thats your middle infield. If Story gets healthy and productive for a season, he becomes very tradeable.
  25. If we have a good shot I think you have to keep him. If you can scout and draft well that pick should still offer some real value. But if they're statistically in it, but not really in it, like this past year I'd rather sell high.
