  1. Good question. No I won’t. But I’ll dislike the off-season as a whole much more if they don’t.
  2. I don’t care who starts. I care about results over 162 games and subsequent years
  3. Isn’t Kike Hernandez a free agent?
  4. Every time I go to edit a comment my comment just gets deleted. Anyways I’ll say it again. I like this move. I will like it better if they go out and get a guy better than Giolito.
  5. So they can save a few Pennie’s that they’re not going to spend elsewhere according to you?
  6. Crazy thought here. People had Sale penciled in because he was under contract.
  7. So the Red Sox won’t sign anyone. But if they should have gotten rid of all of Sales money to do so. Even though they wouldn’t do it. Why? So they can get a participation trophy that says “1st place for having the money to sign Snell but still didn’t sign him” Here’s a thought. It ain’t a zero sum game! Sales money does NOT prevent them from any other signings. It was off the books next year, and they just reset. His money has zero bearing on other moves. They got a highly talented young player, a Who could help this team up until 2030!!!! It’s insane to me that people hate this trade
  8. Yeah. This is definitely one of the more perplexing stances I’ve seen here in a LONG time. And just yesterday OldRed was a voice of reason on this board.
  9. I mean, we could have kept Sale to be our ACE and signed Witt Merifield to be our second baseman Maybe we could have brought Kike back to play 2nd.
  10. I wear shoes and my Son likes chocolate milk.
  11. There may not of been a single team out there willing to take on the entirety of his contract also.
  12. What could they possibly have gotten that they can’t get right now? Sox are still $40 million under the cap, and they’ve shown a willingness to go over in the past, they could spend $60 this year and still reset next. Heck, if they wanted too, they could sign Snell and Montgomery BOTH and reset next year. Those guys are likely 7-9 year commitments. If the Sox don’t sign them it’s because they don’t want to pay them what they’re getting over the life of the contract. There’s NO way on gods green earth that Sales money for one year is preventing them from going that route if they wanted to.
  13. Why not? Teams literally kick in money ALL the time to up the return. It’s literally not your money and what it is is a sunk cost. Would you rather the money be spent on Sale to pitch here, have one less rotation spot open to improve AND not have a second baseman? Sox could trade Jansen tomorrow. If eating his salary gets them a better return they absolutely should do so.
  14. It’s like, If they think Yorke is a bust, this is a good trade to add your second baseman. If you don’t think he’s a bust you can always trade him. Aren’t people always talking about trades to improve the roster around here. It does seem like some people are just going to be unhappy no matter what happens.
  15. Before he lost his prospect eligibility mlb had him at 79. Kids was talented enough to make it to the show at 21, but he was rushed. Sox obviously believe he can play second. If Mayer comes up strong, maybe you can trying moving him to 3B in a few years.
  16. Sox got rid of Sale, who has managed to pitch a year worth of games over the last 4!!!!! He’s older, can’t stay healthy. The odds that he’s going to turn into a shinning example of durability and longevity is slim. You save a little bit of money, but more importantly you paid it down a little bit to up the return. Which I agree with, unless getting under the cap was paramount, like it should have been at the deadline two years ago, I’m down to throw in money to up any return. You got 6 years of control of a young, 22 year old, who has done nothing but hit. He was rushed to the majors before he was a finished product and still hit, career .320 in the minors. Sox probably hope they can coach him up to a second baseman. They also have a question mark out of the rotation and the spot to add another starter. Anyone who doesn’t like this trade is simply cynical. One can not blame them after the last 4 years but that’s the truth.
  17. His defensive profile scares me, but he was projected to grow into an average fielder, maybe he can be that moved off of SS, maybe not. It’s not hard to be better than what we had up the middle in 2023. His bat looks good, he’s hit everywhere he’s been and is only entering his age 23 season. When he was a prospect in Atlanta’s system he was projected as an above average hitter with the hope he’d start to hit for power. He has the frame and athleticism to grow into some more. If he does that he could easily play a corner if he can’t play D up the middle. He won’t be a free agent until 2030. It won’t take much for him to be more valuable than one year of Chris Sale, especially if Chris Sale is only pitching 15-20 games. I like it. I like it a lot more if they go out and get another pitcher. Not to replace Sale. I want Giolito to replace Sale. I want an upgrade on the mound now. I’ll hold my breath.
  18. You have to think this is followed up by an additional move to upgrade the starting rotation. They’re also taking a chance on 6 years on a 23 year old who could be their 2nd baseman of the future.
  19. It's also not uncommon for people in Breslows position to not make any earth shattering deals their first year with a new orgnization where they're still getting a handle on things top to bottom, needs etc etc.
  20. Me too, seems like he has a strong work ethic. Which I love.
  21. I don't think it's hard to predict that at all. It's like predicting the climate. Sure, weather varies day to day but you know darn well it will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer. It's easy to rack up a few losing seasons and live off your past success, but eventually that will erode. I think this is the year they start to feel it if this team is a loser. I still think they make money, but I would be surprised if revenues didn't go down during another losing season. It's also generational. Kids grow up rooting for teams and then spend a lifetime as adults watching them, attending games, and buying jerseys. no one likes watching losers, a continuation of losing really hurts their future brand. Shame on Henry if he doesn't know this.
  22. I would say it's more likely that they are than it is that an asteroid hits eart today. And to be fair, both are not impossible. I just don't see healthy corporations operating like that. I don't think it's a lack of committment as much as it's incompetence. John Henry has a history of being an industry leader, being first, and gaining a competitive edge. He tried to be the smartest guy in the room again and this time he fell flat on his face. Thats how I see it.
  23. I don't think DUran is going to hold a lot of weight in Chicago. They already have Ian Happ and Suzuki out in the outfield and the top of their farm is loaded with outfiedlers. Although Miguel Bleis might be more intriguing to them. He is further away, so the need could be there by the time he is ready or used in a trade elsewhere and he offers more upside than a guy like Duran. Which is ultimately what you need to offer up for a premium player. BTV (the end all of all trade arguments) does accept this trade. Nick Yorke Miguel Bleis Tanner Houck For Yan Gomes and Justin Steele.
