    Honestly if the price was really only going to be Abreu plus, I’d be comfortable trading for him. Don’t have to extend him if his demands are insane. And two years + a pick is fine, and they could still sign Fried in that scenario as well

    It would be pretty cool if the Sox struck first with one of these pitchers. that would excite the fan base, shut up the haters a little bit, improve the team, but also show Soto they’re serious about being a contender moving forward

    First off. I completely agree with you. If the Sox sign Soto there’s no way they’re done this offseason. even then, even if they were, you can pass your a chance to sign Soto.

    So the Sox shouldn’t sign Soto because they’ll make other mistakes, so like……why not just not sign anyone then?

    Of course, SP should be the priority, but you can't pass up a chance to take a shot at a generational talent like Soto.

    Soto mine as well be the RHB addition because he hits them just fine. Sure, I'd love a legit power bat in-between him and Devers but imagine the havoc Duran/Devers/Soto/Casas will run on opposing teams. They bring in their lefty specialist in the 6th inning to face Soto (who may crush him anyways) and then what do they do in the 8th and 9th? Must teams only have a few lefty's in the bullpen who can only go for a few guys to an inning.

    I just posted this on another thread, but Soto pretty much has a higher OPS Vs LHP than almost the entire RHH market.

    Pete Alonso/Teoscar Hernandez/Anthony Santander (Switch hitter techincally)/Eugenio Suarez/WIlly Adames/Alex Bregman/Pete Alonso/Anthony Santander. Those are the TOP RH HITTERS in free agency this year. Juan Soto had a higher OPS against LHP than all of them.

    I know the donny downers will have a field day with this but I think there's a legit shot for Boston to sign him. It feels very different to me, I think they're legit making a hard run at him. Now with that said, they still have to legit contend with NY/NY/LA on this so......maybe we find out how much of a Red Sox fan he actually was growing up. Not saying that matters, but if the money is equal you think it would be.

    That's what Stork thinks Soto is worth, and if the Sox do sign Soto he will be in here moaning about the price tag. Those are just the facts people and the facts are not up for debate.

    Soto had a .966 OPS vs LHP last year, who cares about a RHB. If you have an opportunity to sign a once in a generation talent you take it. Pivot to pitching after that.

    I don’t think Montgomery is going. But I can see a slight upgrade from Gonzalez in the piece. if Casas/Houck/The big 4/ Montgomery are involved I want no part of it.

    What BTV doesn’t tell us is how CHW values these guys internally. If they like Abreu….they like Abreu. Who knows

    Perhaps, I built that trade around the rumor that they like Abreu as a headliner. I'm not going to get hung up who the 2nd or 3rd guy in that trade will be.

    BTV accepts. Hey, this all plays into the fact that we don't know how teams internally evaluate players. Wilyer put up a 3.1 WAR as pretty much a platoon player and that's insane. If they think he can mature into a guy who can hit LHP better they think he's a potential superstar. Then again, the report that the White Sox would accept Wilyer as the headliner could be erroneous but if we take it at face value that's a fair trade.
