  1. Angel Hernandez is not a good umpire in general. But behind the plate, he is almost comically incompetent. No intelligent management would continue to give him that assignment. Crazy world.
  2. Was it Boras' fault, or did he actually get the best deals possible for what was a somewhat underwhelming group of " Big 4" free agents ? Players who were obviously not as much in demand as they thought they would be .
  3. Another thing to consider: In any intelligent workplace, a good boss/manager would evaluate the employees and try to utilize them in the most effective way. Why can't MLB evaluate the umpires and use just the best ball/strike callers behind the plate in most, if not all, games. Pay them more if necessary. Why rotate the job to include the worst home plate umpires. Would you do that in any business ? Would Cora, trying to be fair, rotate his fielders ? ( Casas , it's your turn to play short today. Devers, you are catching because you played third base yesterday) It makes no sense.
  4. Well, at least we finally get to see Grissom........ Wait a minute. Oh, no. Grissom called in sick. Darn.
  5. For better or worse, MLB has made numerous rules changes over the years. Yet, as far as I know, there has never been much interest in coming up with a standard playing area. Other major sports have regulations as to the dimensions of the field, rink, court, etc. But not baseball. That is a pretty big thing and certainly is a factor in the outcomes of a lot of games. Why is that ?
  6. I enjoy watching the ballgames. The won/loss records and the old, so-called baseball card stats are good enough for me. I understand that some fans like all of the relatively new metrics . I would just as soon leave that stuff to the analytics people and the scouts. But obviously, some fans are into that. To each his own.
  7. It's still April, but we are already getting the scoreboard watching and wild card standings updates. We should be grateful for that much.
  8. Tough crowd. I think that one went right over their head.
  9. The A's are not a good team, but you don't want to be trailing them late in the game. Their late inning relievers are tough and Miller is a legit closer.
  10. April records notwithstanding , I think it is fair to say that the Mariners are generally considered to be a better team than the Pirates. Anyone can have their own opinion ( even if they are just trying to provoke) , but I didn't post anything that was misleading.
  11. Lol. I post a brief recap of the season to date , and you call it " cherry picking". You then post a bunch of cherry picked details and numbers to rebut my simple summation of of the early going . By the way, it is really against my better judgement to respond to your silly, boring, repetitive and troll-like posts. I'll try to be more careful in the future. I think that I am one of the few who is wise to your nonsense.
  12. The Red Sox are 14-12. 10-2 vs. the A's, Pirates and Angels. But just 4-10 vs. the Orioles, Guardians and Mariners. None of that is particularly surprising, shocking or amazing. There are quite a few bad teams, so you can stay respectable just by beating them. But if you want to rise above that level, at some point you have to start beating the better teams.
  13. I don't claim to know the reason for the pitching injuries. I just think the pitch clock should be looked into. In any kind of strenuous physical activity , a certain amount of recovery time is needed.
  14. That's not what I'm seeing. Has there ever been more pitching injuries than we are seeing lately ? I don't think so.
  15. That could be the problem. But the pitch clock is a recent innovation. It should not be dismissed as a cause.
  16. Occam's Razor would suggest that there might be a connection between the pitch clock and the rash of pitching injuries. It's at least worth looking into.
  17. Another day. Another pitcher on the I.L.
  18. There is no such thing as a shocking upset in a single baseball game or a short series. The sport simply contains more variables , randomness, dice roll and just plain luck than most sports. You will never see big betting odds on a major league baseball game or a short series. While the better team will win more often than not, the playoffs are clearly a crapshoot. More so than ever with the expanded format.
  19. The Pirates are a real poverty franchise. Perennial doormats. Not one bit surprised that the Sox swept.
  20. No. You just don't want to understand. My point is simply that the money spent on Story and Yoshida could have and should have been better spent on Betts. I don't think that is arguable. But I am tired of this with you. I post something as obvious and innocuous as it would be nice to play teams like the A's and Pirates all the time, and you come back with some explanation why that isn't the case. I don't mind that. You can't help it. It's just your nature. But I'm tired of it. Have a nice day.
  21. Better off talking to the wall than trying to reason with the " Bloom Brothers."
  22. Cut the crap with your snarky little comments like " sad attempt " , " learn math" , " you do realize " , etc., etc. You can't deny the facts . I am sorry that the facts do not agree with your fantasies. Your alternate reality. It's too bad that things do not happen the way you would like to imagine . No need to get nasty about it. And I am not desperate about anything. I am just saying what actually happened. It's all verifiable in the signed contracts, scoreboard and history. You can't change that no matter how hard you try or how many times you post what your imagination dictates. When all is said and done, It was Bloom who traded Betts. It was Bloom who signed Story and Yoshida. It was Bloom who finished in last place three times out of four. Bloom was a disaster as head of baseball operations. I know it hurts, but it is the truth.
  23. Mookie is signed through 2032. The Sox could have done that if they wanted. And when Story and Yoshida's contracts are up, they will be replaced with others. Meanwhile, they are being paid more than Mookie would have gotten ,with nowhere near the productivity. As for Dombrowski, he was fired before the 2019 season ended. Mookie was still under contact through the 2020 season . So, there was ample time to sign him , even in free agency. But you had to pay him what he was worth, as the Yankees did with Judge. And Judge , while a star, is not the ballplayer that Mookie is. The bottom line is they could not find the money for Betts , but were able to come up with it for Story and Yoshida. That is the truth. You don't like to accept it, but that is what happened.
  24. On John Sterling's retirement day, Yankee superstar Aaron Judge gifted him with a beautiful golden sombrero.
