  1. Red, That slams the lid on the little Chapman at the hot corner, Devers to first base, Casas to DH, Yoshida in left and Duran traded for a starting pitcher fantasy. A whole series of chess moves down the drain. Just like that.
  2. You have to admit, not a lot of teams punt on first down though. A very unique strategy.
  3. Given the Dodger's roster, there could be a lot of pressure on Roberts to win it all.
  4. I think Devers is the third baseman. Now, and for the foreseeable future.
  5. If it doesn't work out for Jarren Duran, maybe he could tag team with Logan Paul.
  6. I am not smart enough to run a website. But if I was, I would put out my own rankings on everything. " The Official Galehouse Rankings." They couldn't be any lamer than what we see these days. (So and so is ranked 7th.) Fan, " I would have him 5th or 6th at least."
  7. For the last time, how many games it wins determines the success or failure of a baseball team. Winning isn't the main thing, it's the only thing. ( Where did I hear that before ?) Your argument is that it's team wins that matters, not a pitcher's wins. And I say that each pitcher's wins are a part of the total team wins. We are getting nowhere with this. Have a nice day. Have a nice day. Have a nice day.
  8. I think some of you are missing ( deliberately?) the point . It's not just that Monty only won ten games last year, it's the fact that that is the best he has ever done. That is about all that I have. I hate to keep repeating myself. I hate to keep repeating myself. I hate to keep repeating myself.
  9. I think teams are a little leery of Wacha due to his health history. Nola is a career Phillie and a fan favorite. I think Philly management put some value in that. ( Maybe Sox management should take notice) Wheeler is probably better though. And the reason we think highly of Dombrowski is that he wins. It is that simple. Of course, some folks will look past that and say that winning doesn't matter all that much. Then we are back to square one.
  10. Well, I don't think too many ten game winners are getting the big contracts.
  11. People are using arguments involving one year stats or small samples like post season play. Okay. But I am saying that in seven years, ten wins is Montgomery's career best. And he only did that once. Every other year was single digits. You have to admit, that is a little unusual for someone who is so highly coveted. Has he been that unlucky ? And as for the different circumstances in awarding wins , none of those are unique to Montgomery. They are the same for every pitcher. In closing, I say that Montgomery is obviously a good pitcher and would probably improve the Sox' staff. But I think the fact that fans are putting so much of their hope into signing Montgomery is more a case of desperation than it is of anything else. Let us hope that , should the Sox sign him, he wins more than he has so far.
  12. There is one big difference. Sale has shown that he is capable of it. Grissom has not. Maybe he will , but comparing him to Sale at this point makes no sense.
  13. It would be great if we could take his 10 wins, but not the 11 losses.
  14. Well, I have to disagree . There is room for speculation, opinion, explanations and such. And these are often influenced by particular beliefs and biases. And people do love to debate. And sometimes it is not clear what is or is not the truth. But sometimes it is clear. The truth sometimes hurts and we don't like to hear it. But it does matter. In this case Montgomery, while a good pitcher, has not won a lot of games. That is a fact.
  15. Not a slam dunk. But most top pitchers have done it again and again. I am simply stating the reality of what has happened. No amount of debate points , no matter how sarcastic, can change that. Again, I have no problem signing Montgomery. But no matter how you slice it, ten games won is his career best at this point. That is the truth.
  16. Baseball school: Teacher: " Johnny, what is the most games Jordan Montgomery has won in a season? " Johnny: " Ten.". Teacher: " Very good. Has Felix Hernandez ever done that ? " Johnny: " Yes, King Felix exceeded that in ten different seasons. " Teacher: " Right. And what did we learn from that? " Johnny: " Don't try to compare Montgomery with Felix Hernandez ? " Teacher: " Correct. Good job, Johnny. " The point is that I did not say that Montgomery was not a good pitcher. He clearly is. I just pointed out that he has never won more than ten games in a season. And that is the reality. The plain truth.
  17. I don't know. I guess you would have to go back and look at the games he pitched. Maybe he is just unlucky. But he has been in MLB for seven years now. And ten wins is his career best. Maybe that will change.
  18. I am not too concerned about what the Sox pay Montgomery or anyone else. If they want a guy bad enough, they can certainly afford to pay him. If the owner doesn't want to spend what it takes, then so be it. All I am saying is that if you sign a guy to a big contract, you want him to do better than 10-11. Will Montgomery do that?
  19. I think I heard somewhere that everyone is entitled to their opinion. In fact, I have heard it many, many times. Sick of hearing it. But there is also a reality. And the reality does not always coincide with one's opinion. With Montgomery, the reality is that he has yet to win more than ten games in a season. You don't have to like it, but it is the truth.
  20. The contrarian. Today is Tuesday. Notin: Wrong. In Japan it is Wednesday. Wednesday is not Tuesday.
  21. I don't want you to ask me any questions. I want to ask you a question. Does a teams won/loss record match the sum of the pitching staff's won/loss record? Yes or no. Because that was my post that you responded to. We all know that there are guidelines for who gets the win and who gets the loss. Maybe they should change those guidelines, but that is another matter.
  22. Nothing would be enough for the stat heads. They would have to break it down to home ice saves, road ice saves, first period saves, overtime saves, easy saves, hard saves and the occasional Marv Albert " Save and a beauty".
  23. It is futile to argue with the stat heads. They will ignore the bottom line and try to dissect everything. And that's okay. That is what they enjoy. It's like this: Fan: " Joe Schmenge hit 30 homers ". Stat head: Yeah, but what was his " barrel rate" ? Fan: " I don't know. But I like the 30 homers". Stat head: " Well , George Schmidlap only had 24 homers, but he had a better " barrel rate" , so Schmenge was probably just lucky". Fan: " Okay, Stat. Whatever you say. Enjoy the game".
  24. A team's won/loss record amazingly seems to match the sum of the pitchers' won/loss records.
  25. I said Montgomery is a good pitcher. I mentioned his ERA. If the Sox sign him, it would certainly improve the staff. My point is that I hope he does better than 10-11. So far in his career, he has not been able to. That's all.
