  1. Predicting the Yankees to win 104 games and capture the division by 9 games. I like it.
  2. I approve of the following names: Cleveland Rocks Miami Knights The Tampa Juice Boston Chowderheads
  3. Devers was once like the #4 rated prospect in all of baseball at age 20, so obviously the talent is there. If he was a Yankee I would be expecting him to continually improve with age. But since he's a Red Sux, I'm expecting him to become Sandoval Jr. Keep eating young man!
  4. Auditors, the scum of the accounting world!!
  5. That would be pretty awesome. The Pads would instantly go from unwatchable baseball team to must watch. At least for the first few weeks of the season.
  6. I mean if we're talking about history.... 27 rings!!! Boom betcha didn't see that coming!!!
  7. The only sport that makes sense on every level is dodgeball.
  8. For anyone interested, MLB has just posted their top 30 prospects by team http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019?list=bos http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019?list=nyy
  9. Most PGA players have their own caddies who they use for every tournament. These caddies have experience with the golfer, their swing, their game, etc., so they can offer insight during the match. They offer more to the golfer than just carrying the bag. From what I understand, the caddie that Kuchar used was a replacement provided by either the PGA or the course because his normal caddie couldn't make it. So I assume he was more of a "just carry the bag" kind of caddie. So is that worth the same 10% that a normal caddie is worth? Probably not. But if I just won over a million bucks, I think I would've been a bit more generous than that.
  10. I'd wait on Judge. He'll be like what, 31 when becomes a free agent? Who knows what his game will look like by then.
  11. New BR farm rankings for 2019 came out today. MLB's comes out next week. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2820145-mlb-farm-system-rankings-pre-2019-spring-training-edition#slide1 Zero love from BR for Sox' farm at dead last. And Yanks 13th. Not that I'm comparing or anything
  12. First injury of the year! On Day 0.5 of Spring Training... Mike King has been shut down for three weeks with a stress reaction in his elbow. He’ll be reevaluated again after the three weeks. I was looking forward to seeing him in preseason too. Sigh, oh well.
  13. Yo momma so old that there was no such thing as history class when she was in school
  14. I mean if you're gonna list their 2nd halves then why not use total WAR instead of doing one on one comparisons which skew the results? NYY Total WAR: 6.8 BOS Total WAR: 5.6 C'mon man!!
  15. Hmm I didn't think Trea Turner was that good. But I guess 40+ steals and 100+ runs in fantasy is pretty valuable.
  16. Yes that's what I miss! I don't really comment on GTs unless the Yanks are playing, but I enjoy skulking in the background and reading everyone's overreactions
  17. Bah this is taking too long. I'm ready for the game threads to begin.
  18. Two good pitches aren't enough to be a starter. He has no third pitch whatsoever. In 19 career starts he's pitched 89.1 innings and given up 50 earned runs with 68 Ks, good for an average of 4 2/3 innings per start with an ERA of 5.60 and K/9 of 7.6. His 2018 numbers as a starter are even worse (5 GS, 18 IP, 7.22 ERA, 7.2 K/9). But last year in relief, he tossed 26.2 innings and gave up 13 earned runs with 26 Ks. While the ERA isn't great at 4.86, it's certainly better than his numbers as a starter. And as his improved K rate shows, his stuff plays up in relief since he only has to go through a lineup once.
  19. Me neither, but they need someone in the bullpen who can give them more than two innings at a time. I guess German could be that guy, but I think he still has a long term shot as a starter. I'd prefer for him to pitch every 5 days down in AAA and let Cessa transition to the BP full-time.
  20. Thanks for kicking it off Jacko. I agree with mostly everything but the Yankees typically roll with 8 relievers and only 3 bench spots, so I think both Kahnle and Cessa start off the year on the 25.
  21. Dammit! But at least I have a poll!
  22. With the start of spring training right around the corner and so many free agents left unsigned, I wondered what it would look like if we created a team solely out of the best remaining free agents. I kept it simple and just used projected WAR to determine the top players: Starting Lineup 1. Josh Harrison 2B (1.2) 2. Bryce Harper RF (4.9) 3. Manny Machado 3B (5.0) 4. Mike Moustakas DH (2.8) 5. Marwin Gonzalez 1B (1.8) 6. Adam Jones CF (1.2) 7. Carlos Gonzalez LF (1.3) 8. Jose Iglesias SS (1.7) 9. Matt Wieters C (1.3) Bench Denard Span OF (0.6) Martin Maldonado C (1.0) Yangervis Solarte 1B,2B,3B (0.7) Rotation 1. Dallas Keuchel (3.3) 2. Brett Anderson (1.3) 3. Clay Bucholz (1.0) 4. Gio Gonzalez (0.8) 5. Ervin Santana (0.7) Bullpen Doug Fister [6th SP/Swingman] (0.6) Blake Wood (0.1) Aaron Loup (0.1) Ryan Madson (0.1) Tony Sipp (0.1) Bud Norris (0.4) Jake Diekman (0.4) Craig Kimbrel (2.1) Not a great looking team but certainly not terrible. With a total of 34.5 WAR, they're projected to be the 17th best team in baseball (just ahead of the A's and behind the Reds). So what did I learn from wasting half an hour doing this? Even thought we keep hearing about how terrible this free agency has been because the top several guys are still unsigned, there really aren't THAT many quality free agents still out there.
  23. Players are overpaid compared to the rest of us schmucks, but I wouldn't say they're overpaid for the amount of revenue that they bring in for the league. I have a hard time aligning my views with these billionaire owners but I get it, logically it doesn't make sense for teams to agree to huge contracts with players who will be in their mid 30's by the end of their contracts. So then to make up this difference players should be paid more during their prime years, when they're still under team control. I'm pretty sure there's a much more detailed discussion on this in another thread.
  24. 200 strikeout seasons could become a rarity soon as well. If the MLB approves a 26 man roster I'd imagine a lot of teams will eventually switch to 6 man rotation, thus fewer starts/innings/strikeouts for pitchers.
