  1. I don't watch many Sox games so I don't know if the batting order is accurate, but: Betts (1.078 OPS) vs McCutchen (0.892 w/ Yankees, 0.792 overall) Benintendo (0.830) vs Judge (0.919) Martinez (1.031) vs Hicks (0.833) Bogaerts (0.883) vs Stanton (0.852) Pearce (0.901) vs Voit (1.069 overall) Devers (0.731) vs Didi (0.829) Nunez (0.677) vs Andujar (0.855) JBJ (0.717) vs Sanchez (0.697) Vazquez (0.540) vs Torres (0.820) Boston Total OPS: 7.388 (0.821 avg OPS) NYY Total OPS: 7.666 (0.852 avg OPS)
  2. Why use lineup slot? These numbers include players who are no longer on both teams' rosters. A player by player comparison makes the most sense and would give the most accurate measure. Unless that's not what you want.
  3. I have to disagree with the one guy who says Boston's lineup is deeper than the Yankees. The Sox have a very top heavy lineup. Their top 4 is definitely better than our top 4 (Betts/JD/Beni/Bog - total 3.822 OPS vs Judge/Stanton/Hicks/Didi - total 3.434 OPS) but the remainder of their lineup is pretty questionable. The only other batter in their lineup over .800 OPS is Pearce and he's a platoon batter who mostly faces LHP, whereas Gleyber/Andujar/Voit/McCutchen are all .800+ OPS hitters.
  4. If you ever run for Supreme Court Justice this comment will come back to haunt you.
  5. "I gotta have that" - whichever airhead kept repeating it
  6. Boone gets credit for managing this game near perfectly. Hopefully this continues for the next 4 weeks.
  7. I'm glad AJ Cole isn't on the roster otherwise I'm sure Boone would go to him right here.
  8. Winning the division does mean something. But let's be real. Both our franchises have won enough that they are past the point where division titles are of much relevance. Obviously the Sox have had better regular seasons than the Yankees these past three years. But what did it matter in the end? Nobody remembers the teams that don't at least make it to the WS. Teams like the Braves and Brewers will cherish those division titles since they're pretty rare for them. Our teams aim higher.
  9. Why cut it off at 2001 if you're gonna go that far back??? I wonder. Past 10 years: Yankees 1 WS win, Sox 1 WS win. See how that works?
  10. Cubs were the best team in the NL for most of the season, finished tied for the best record in the NL, then don't even make the actual playoffs. The new wild card is cruel, but very entertaining.
  11. I'm fine with Sevy starting, he has the highest ceiling of the three options. Whoever starts is going to have a short leash anyway. And although he did got rocked by the A's previously, he has looked better over his last few starts: 17.2 IP, 2.04 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 18 Ks
  12. And TB destroyed his phone before anyone could look at it. Destroying evidence isn't something that is typically done by the innocent. But maybe he had photos on there with his dong out that he didn't want leaked.
  13. I believe he said "that was for you, bitch" as he pointed to Kittredge (the pitcher who threw behind Romine's head). I'm sure you'd be ok with what happened if Joe Kelly was the one who did it.
  14. I'd like to see him for a full season before making any proclamations about him, but he sure as s*** looks legit right now
  15. That Shreve/Gallegos for Voit trade was kind of an afterthought at the time, but it may have ended up the best trade the Yanks made at the deadline. Obviously Happ was a big trade too, but we expected him to be good. Voit just came out of nowhere.
  16. Didi says he thinks there's a high chance he's ready for the postseason - it's a pain tolerance issue. We'll see what happens but I wouldn't say he's "likely" out for the postseason.
  17. Well that was a fun game until the 7th inning. The place was vibrating after the Stanton GS. Went with a friend who is a Red Sox so I had to put up with his exuberance for quite awhile. But I guess it could always be worse: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2796930-red-sox-fan-dies-after-being-electrocuted-train-surfing-after-game-vs-yankees
  18. I'll be one of those 40,000. The last two games have been great but an infinitesimal part of me kinda wanted them to clinch just so there was no possibility of me witnessing it in person.
  19. On paper they have the deepest team in baseball. Almost every player on their roster can be considered "above average". And since they won the WS last year, they should be the team to beat this year as well.
  20. Yesterday was kind of a fluke. They didn't hit great, but still hit 8 balls in play that were over 100MPH off the bat.. and they all went for outs. Sometimes s*** happens. Doesn't help that they've been playing .500 ball on top of that. At least Sevy looked better.
  21. Yes he was born in 1954 in Brooklyn, I think the Dodgers moved a few years later. And since his father was an immigrant who did not know anything about baseball, he had a choice between the Yankees and Mets. Definitely one of his best life choices.
  22. Luckily my dad was a Yankees fan and not a Mets fan. Otherwise I would always be miserable. For anyone not raised as a Yankees/Mets fan who has the choice between the two, what sane person would choose the Mets?
  23. Hechawhatever is just an extra guy to have in the dugout in September to play defense. Supposedly he can play multiple infield positions well, including 3rd (which I don't think Wade can play).
