  1. I get what you're saying, but if the majority of the league was doing it prior to 2017 (which was likely the case, otherwise why send a letter to the whole league rather than just address it with specific teams) then at least teams were on an even playing field. Looking back at it now though, I wonder if Sanchez was so good in his first year because of this.
  2. It's behind a paywall so I can't read it, but I imagine since this is from a Houston paper they whine about how they were unfairly treated. The big difference in what happened is that the Yankees did this is 2015 and 2016 before there were strict rules. MLB sent out their letter to the league in 2017, and despite that letter the Astros and the Red Sox (to a much lesser degree) disobeyed those rules. There was nothing in the letter that wasn't already public knowledge.
  3. This probably won't be how it looks by the end of the season, but 2021 free agent SS acquisitions so far: Isiah Kiner Falefa ($4.7M 2022 salary): 119 wRC+ Jose Iglesias ($5M): 99 wRC+ Corey Seager ($33M): 88 wRC+ Carlos Correa ($35.1M): 74 wRC+ Trevor Story ($20M): 59 wRC+
  4. Has a team ever been no-hit through 9 innings and still won? Pretty wild.
  5. At least IKF has settled in. Huge game for him, hope he keeps it up.
  6. The only good part about Gallo on the Yankees is being able to reference My Cousin Vinny every time he strikes out. "I'm Joey Callo. You thought you were trading for Gallo?"
  7. It was a weird outing for Cole. He stuck out 3 batters in the 1st inning, then had like a 40 minute wait before pitching the 2nd inning. Not that it's an excuse, an ace should be able to overcome adverse situations. But even in the 2nd he managed to get to 2 strikes on everyone he walked, but just couldn't put anyone away. My level of worry about Cole right now is probably a 4 out of 10, if this continues then obviously I'll be more alarmed. But over decades of watching baseball I've learned not to put a lot of stock in April numbers.
  8. Not sure how it's Boone's fault that their $300M pitcher walked 4 guys in one inning.
  9. Those O's are tough.......
  10. It's very early and this list could change quickly, but my order of bullpen confidence is as follows (0 = no confidence, 10 = supreme confidence): Loaisaga (9) Holmes (8) King (8) Green (7) Luetge (7) Peralta (6) Chapman (5) Castro (5) Schmidt (5) Marinaccio (3) Sears (3) If we continue to have this many solid bullpen options I can see the Yanks trying to trade Green at some point this season.
  11. Funny that Chapman is now like our 8th best reliever. But can't put this loss on him, the offense was dreadful. Gallo is just an OF version of Gary Sanchez with worse offense and better defense. Donsldson seems to start every count 0-2 and outside of his game 1 walkoff has been awful. IKF/Higgy are replacement level. Hicks is anti-clutch and will probably be injured by next week. Rizzo had a nice series against Boston but he's mediocre. Gleyber is meh until he proves otherwise. Stanton/Judge/DJ are good, but it seems when they're not hitting (or playing) then the offense doesn't exist. Oh well, hopefully the bats show up tomorrow.
  12. Story swung through strike three with exceptional grace.
  13. Yanks have 6 starters OPSing over .750, 5 over .850, and 3 over .950 Despite this they're barely averaging over 3 runs a game. Tons of solo HRs, no timely hitting, countless runners LOB. It's just 6 games but it's certainly been frustrating.
  14. Where'd that guy Dickman come from? His stuff looked nasty (although he did get away with a couple of pitches that Judge fouled back).
  15. What constitutes a game winning/losing pitch, like 3-2 count with bases loaded in the 9th?
  16. I'm glad they started the game at 7 since these affairs between Yanks/Sox always drag on. Currently on pace for 4 and a half hours.
  17. Also sucks because that would've probably been a DP if it didn't hit Monty.
  18. Yeah he probably only has one inning left unless he has a quick 3rd. Yanks are carrying 11 relievers though so they'll manage.
  19. Probably 60-70 based on where he finished in ST
  20. Would be nice if Gallo could at least field easy fly balls if he's also gonna K 3 times a game.
  21. Let's revisit this thought at the end of the season
  22. Another 4 hour Yankees/Red Sox game. Time to nap. Catch y'all tomorrow.
  23. DJ, Torres, Judge, Rizzo, Stanton so far today.
