  1. That makes sense statistically. I guess it's just instinctual to blame pitching because it's easy to associate their runs being given up as the difference in the game.
  2. Whoever it is that I'm playing in the final game and decided to start Nick Pivetta, I think that sealed your fate.
  3. This is looking like a potential repeat of the last two games, back and forth lead changes until someone in the Sox bullpen coughs up the final run.
  4. They wanted to make sure Judge doesn't come up until the 3rd inning so that viewers keep watching.
  5. McGuire continues to only hit HRs against the Yankees. Time for IKF to do the same.
  6. It's been a weird year for him. He started the season going 12 straight appearances without allowing a run, then allowed runs in his next 6 consecutive appearances, then went on the IL, came back (and re-visited the IL because of a tattoo infection) and has been really good some games and utterly terrible others. Considering his playoff track record with the Yanks I'd consider leaving him off the roster.
  7. The Guardians are a nice substitute for them though. Wait Guardians, my bad.
  8. McGuire only hits HRs against the Yankees, just like IKF only hits HRs against the Sox. Weird.
  9. If Judge doesn't homer tonight then at least fans will still get to see the record for most GIDPs in a single game.
  10. Should be an entertaining scrum for his 61st and 62nd HR balls (assuming he hits them). Especially if they end up in the bleachers with all of those animals.
  11. His numbers are definitely down from his career norm, but he's still putting up a .771 OPS. Doesn't seem like a complete waste.
  12. But at least NY JD has played good defense. Boston JD only plays DH at this point right?
  13. No one bothered to make a thread, so here it is.
  14. Long term I know it'll probably screw the Yankees roster construction (though it shouldn't because they're the highest earning franchise in MLB), but I still want the Yankees to re-sign him. It would destroy my soul a little to see him in another uniform, especially if it were the Mets.
  15. I'd say the odds are against the Yankees beating the Astros given their history as well as how they Yanks have played in the 2nd half. But I'd still given them about a 40% chance of winning a series against them.
  16. To be fair nobody was picking the Yankees to win the division before the season started either. Everyone thought the Jays were gonna run away with the division, and that the Rays would be good again, and that the Yankees would be meh. So by preseason standards the Yankees have outperformed expectations. They've of course fallen short of their midseason expectations (at the very least I thought they'd still hold the #1 seed in the AL) but unless they blow the division it'll still be a successful regular season. Playoffs are a different story that we'll have to wait and see about..
  17. Almost as embarrassing as finishing last in the division behind the mighty O's and their $44M team salary.
  18. Worthless Sox couldn't even take one game from them this week.
  19. Yes but my point is that at one point in time both Andujar and Florial were our top prospects. Florial was also untouchable in trades back in the day. I think Volpe profiles better than both to have big league success, but I don't think we could've realistically expected him to come up and produce right away, especially while skipping AAA. Sure he could have, or he could've came up and hit .150 and then had his confidence shattered.
  20. I haven't heard anywhere that surgery was on the table. Even in the offseason it sounds like the plan would just be for it to heal by not placing stress on it. And even though I would've liked the Yankees to call up Volpe just to see what he can do, it doesn't mean he would be having the same success in the MLB that he's having right now in AAA (ex: Estevan Florial, Miguel Andujar).
  21. His whole bullpen management yesterday was suspect. Schmidt is stretched out so it didn't make sense to only let him throw 45 pitches, especially if he knew he couldn't go to any of his best arms in the pen. That was his first mistake, pulling him too early. Then after that he pulled Peralta after 3 batters even though he looked great (2 Ks and someone reaching on a blown call at first) and was only at 13 pitches. Did he bring Weissert in for the righty on righty matchup? Well Peralta has a great changeup that neutralizes righties (RHB hitting .234/.304/.290 against him this season) so that wouldn't make sense. Weissert has had some good moments but is still an unreliable rookie, and there's not really any excuse for bringing him in to face the Twins' best hitter. In general I feel like most wins/losses are the result of players and not coaches, but yesterday's loss was definitely on Boone.
  22. Everything tends to regress to the mean (as evidenced by the Yankees 2nd half collapse) so I wonder if some day the Twins will be owning the Yanks? Hard to imagine.
  23. I have to assume Stanton and DJL are unavailable today if they weren't in there to hit. I guess they could've went to Donaldson, but my bigger question is why the hell this guy who just got called up is batting 4th? I'd at least put Andujar (who also sucks but not as much) and IKF ahead of him. Also this is probably the worst Yankees lineup I've seen since the 2013 team.
