  1. I know Japan didn't send their version of Nick Martinez (competing for #5 spot in SD rotation) or Merrill Kelly (34 year old declining player who is at best the #2 starter in a s***** Dbacks rotation) to start a game.
  2. Pitching was solid enough to win the game despite trotting out Merrill Kelly and Kyle Freeland as our top 2 starters. The lineup fell short today though. 0-7 with RISP, felt like I was watching the Yankees play Houston again. Props to Japan though, they brought their stars to play and they showed up for them.
  3. What are you talking about? Kyle Higashioka is the 3rd catcher on Team USA!
  4. Yeah it's disappointing, but maybe next WBC pitchers will be more inclined to join since they got to see what they missed out on this year. I can see why some guys might skip it because they're injury prone or recovering (deGrom/Buehler/Bieber/Sale). Would be cool though if at least some of the top guys played (rotation of Burnes/Cole/Nola/Scherzer/Fried would be awesome to watch). Also would've loved to see Judge playing in it and introducing himself to an international audience.
  5. That was a crazy good game
  6. No GM is as consistent as Cashman
  7. Rodon fitting in with the Yankees already.
  8. If it was keepers you guys would be toast. I'd have Judge/Vlad/Alvarez/Alcantara/Manoah
  9. Gotta be Bill Buckner
  10. I'd say it's more optimism than anything, at least in my case. On paper they're bringing back basically the same team as last year that at its best played like the #1 team in the league, and at its worst played like a mediocre team. Nobody knows how things will play out but the thought of our players staying healthy and playing up to their potential (like they did in the first half of last season) is exciting, and like all fan bases we're looking forward to the youngsters getting more playing time and hoping they live up to their prospect hype.
  11. True but I'm lazy and I think ERA (over the course of a season) is a pretty good indicator for pitching performance. You can disagree with that if you want but then that's a whole separate conversation.
  12. The point I'm trying to make isn't about who is healthier, but what can you reasonably expect from either pitcher if they were actually healthy. Severino pitched 102 innings last year with a 3.18 ERA. He's still only 28 years old. Sale will be 34 years old this year and his last sort of healthy year was 2019 when he pitched to a 4.40 ERA. Paxton is also 34 years old and his last sort of healthy year was 2019 when he pitched to a 3.82 ERA. If both were healthy this year should we expect them to pitch better than when they were 3 years younger? Maybe marginally since they should be "fresh" from not pitching for so long, but to say a healthy Sale/Paxton/Kluber is on par with a healthy Cole/Rodon/Severino seems a little delusional.
  13. Maybe Sale/Kluber/Paxton from 5 years ago. The difference is that Cole/Rodon/Severino/Cortes are in their prime. What does a healthy Sale even look like at this point? Same for Paxton. Kluber was healthy last year and had a 4.34 ERA.
  14. Because he's a Red Sux, duh
  15. Montas will be healthy just in time for free agency. Definitely one of the worst deadline moves in recent memory, though at the time I was pretty hopeful about the move.
  16. You sound very bored
  17. Not sure what their rank was last year, but the Sox farm coming in at #23 doesn't seem like much of an improvement given that this is year 4 of Bloom and he was basically brought in to be the opposite of Dombrowksi. Any upward movement in rankings likely came from being in position to draft Mayer who is already a top 10 prospect. How many years does Bloom get to complete his rebuild?
  18. I actually think this was a good move by Boston. True Mondesi is injury prone, but he's a former top 5 prospect who is still only 26, plays good defense at SS and other positions, has elite speed, and despite the sub .300 OBP he has still posted over a .700 OPS the last 4 seasons (excluding last season when he barely played). Obviously the key with him is health, but this was a high reward low risk move.
  19. I would rather they give Schmidt a chance to start instead of German. They've been saying for the past two years they were going to stretch him out and let him start but then they use anybody but him when a hole opens up in the rotation. It's time to see if the guy can be an option in the rotation.
  20. It's certainly possible 2022 was his career year, but he's still only 28 years and last season he went out and proved that his 2021 season wasn't a fluke. I guess he needs to prove it every year though since he looks like an assistant gym teacher?
  21. Feels like the Yankees are gonna trade away a starter now. They still need a LF and I doubt they're planning to spend much more this offseason. My guess would be Montas, but they could probably get a good haul for either Sevy or Nestor.
